Whew! Back from a week at the beach and apparently I only gained 1.5 lbs. Not too bad. It's cooler here this week (well, it couldn't get any hotter) so I'm back to walking & jumping around. Hope everyone is doing great! |

I look at the thread header -- "5'5 185 and want to get to 145" and then "by August". Well. If I get to 145 by April I will be pleased as punch. But I'm happy so long as I'm headed in the right direction and looking ahead to NOT PUTTING IT ALL BACK ON!!! Welcome everyone! |

Hi everybody and greetings from the sweltering northeast USA. No power since Friday and non expected til late Fri night and temps are soaring in the upper 90's. Gasp. Just tossed out the contents of fridge and freezer. Curious how many pickles one can collect when one rarely eats pickles. anyway ... my news is ... "drum roll please" ... I made it into the 170's! Hi everybody! whew! Went to a dinner party last night where we all contributed to an Indian theme. Very delicious. It wasn't "diet" food but it wasn't bloomin' onions either. Anyway, I'm stuck at about 180 again this morning but I'm thinkin' last night's food had more sodium than I've had in quite a while. the good thing is that it was about an hour away so I had to be very abstemious with the vino. Anywoo ... I'm still on it! But it's soooo hot & muggy here that my lunch time walks are but a dream. Got to get moving!!!

waelyk, I feel your pain. I've been hovering around 180 for a solid month. Sigh. I'm just sticking with it and trying to remember that I don't lose steadily. I lose a bunch -- like 5 lbs -- and then hover there for a few weeks. But it does seem like it's time for my next lose a bunch cycle. Stay the course, waelyk, and I will too. WE CAN DO THIS! |

Hmmmm ... I kinda jumped around the forum today lurking on other threads. Eeek! There's a lot of odd stuff out there with people getting all mad at each other for saying their fad diet is bad and calling each other rude and disrespectful and getting all freaked out cuz they want to lose faster and faster. speaking of fad diets ... I signed up with some friends for a Jump Start your summer detox plan (Dr. Mark Hyman's). Another Eeeeek! I didn't realize it meant you had to buy all these supplements and take baths twice a day & make a broth out of 34 ingredients. I'm going to stay happy on the slow but steady keep-it-off-forever route. Smooches to all you peeps in here. Let us know how you're doing. |

I find it's very helpful to log my weight. Why? Because that way I can visualize that this weight loss journey is not a straight line. I can see the weight gains and how quickly they go away and the spikes then don't mean I've "failed" or "I'm bad" ... it's just part of the journey. |

Yeah. We're trying to build on success in the long run and for me, I know I'm trying to change my HEAD not just my habits. Along with ITFV (Inner Toxic Food Voice) one of my greatest enemies is OWTU or Oh What the Use. That's the part of my brain that loves to sabotage me. First it makes a huge resolution that makes the rest of me feel all self-righteous and self-satisfied. Something like "I will eat nothing but carrot sticks, organic sprouted tofu and luke warm water for the next 6 weeks." Then that night I go to a party and eat some NON ORGANIC NON SPROUTED tofu and have ICE in my lukewarm water. Immediately I say, Oh What the Use! And dive into the cheese dip and order another glass of red wine.

hey Shass -- just a leedle reminder not to set yourself up for failure. The Euro cup IS a big deal and not having beer at the bar with hooting fans can cause one to feel very deprived. What if you have a beer and then a glass of water before you have another one? Or drink lite beer? Or make sure you eat something healthful & filling before you hit the bar so you're not going to cave on those nachos or wings? Some kind of strategy that sets you up for success? xxoo fidley |

I am taking up jskuyt's 2 week challenge! Who's with us? Now. Let me caveat this by saying that I am absolutely intent upon making this a life change -- not a radical diet plan that I can't stick to. (*bats aimlessly at the dangling preposition*) HOWEVER ... I need to jump start my motivation. So. For the next 2 weeks, I will: - Exercise 5 days a week - Continue to eliminate sugar and all processed food from my diet - Cut back on wine - Monitor my portion sizes more carefully Not so tough sounding, eh? Maybe it will become habit!

Yep. 4 of those 5 lbs have already gone away again. I find that charting my weight really helps because I can see the ups & downs in a strong visual way and it reminds me that this journey is NOT a straight line. jskut -- that is so freakin' awesome about the size 10 capris. Woo hoo! Shass: just keep going. You're doing fine. Take comfort from my 5 lb spike & the fact that 4 of it came off in a week. csurf: I did Eat to Live for 6 weeks & like you, was not perfect but lost a fast 10 lbs. I am definitely not a lifetime vegan though. OK folks ... it's been a struggly kind of week but we can keep on keeping on if we hang together. |
