Fitness 30 day shred results? Jun 24 2010
19:00 (UTC)

I've completed 2 rounds of the shred (so 60 days). I had pretty good results. I am not trying to lose weight, so I eat the maintenance calories for my height. The 30 day shred has helped reshape my body, I'm fitting into jeans that had become a little tight a few months ago. I also experienced a couple of pounds increase in my weight when I started, which I ended up losing.

I started out not being able to do pushups on my knees, and now I can do the full set on my knees and I can even do a few pushups on my toes, that was a first for me. So don't worry about any intimidating moves, just try to do what you can, modify as often as you need to, and eventually you'll be able to do the full amount. Whenever I wasn't up for exercising I just modified everything so i could get thru the workout. I also initially hated all the jumping, but then I got used to it and it became the easiest part of the workouts.

You can read thru my journal in my profile for my full experience, I created an entry after every workout, and a summary after each round.

Fitness FitFlops / Shape-Ups...do they work? May 20 2010

I wore skechers shape-up boots throughout the winter. They initially felt awkward to walk in, it took a few days until I got used to that. Then I noticed they improved my posture and were super comfy, so I loved them for that. But no, they did not do anything spectacular for my legs.

Weight Loss Should I buy the 30 Day Shred DVD?? May 03 2010

I'm currently on day25 of the 30 day shred, and agree its a great workout. I'm not doing it to lose weight, just to tone up, and I definitely have seen an improvement in my muscle definition everywhere since I've started. Despite how short each workout is (20ish minutes) I find it really works on all the areas of your body. I've also seen a big improvement in my strength since starting it. I would definitely recommend it to almost anyone.

If you do it consistently you will definitely see results, the key is getting past the first week...that's the toughest part. Towards the end of level1 I saw a big improvement in my strength and that kept me motivated to keep going. I'm now in level3 and I really see visual see results. I'm pretty sure once I get to the end of the 30 days I'll just start the program over, that's how much I like it. :)

Though if you already go to a gym you may not need to use a DVD at all since you can probably take a variety of classes that would give you the same results. I find being in a live class is more fun than following a workout video. ..but at the moment this DVD suits my budget :)

Whatever you decide, good luck!

I'd also suggest switching to diet, it will probably taste bad to you at first, but once you get used to it the regular stuff will taste too sweet. If you don't like artificial sweeteners then you could just stick with what you're doing and try to only buy a certain amount per week, once you use up the amount that's it, you make yourself wait until the next week. That may help you really savor the amount you do drink and plan out how to make the weekly amount last an entire week.

Weight Loss Eating while skinny May 01 2010

I guess I fall into the category of being skinny, I notice that people always watch what I order at restaurants and often comment.

If I order something healthy the comment is "oh why are you ordering that, you don't need to worry about your weight"...uhh ordering something healthy is exactly why I don't have to worry about my weight.

If I order something unhealthy "oh you're so lucky you can just eat whatever you want and stay slim, you must have a really fast metabolism"...Um no I don't, this is just one of the rare occasions that I'm eating this way.

Of course I never actually respond to either comment, I just smile and nod.

If people never commented on what I was eating I don't think I'd even notice what others order or how much they eat, I honestly don't care, but the comments end up drawing my attention to other people's eating habits.

Foods Any suggestions for good all you can eat buffets Ontario Canada? Apr 24 2010

I suggest Korean BBQ! If you've never had it before, they bring you as much as you want of meats (beef, chicken, pork, ribs) and seafood (salmon, white fish, squid) for an extra $2 you can upgrade and also get shrimp and lamb. Then you grill the stuff yourself (grill built into the table), the meats are already marinated so they taste good on their own but they also give you a sauce to dip in, and you can ask for hot sauce as well. It comes with salad, soup and other snack type veggie items - kimchi, potatoes, spicy sprouts, etc. And the best part is its like $15 per person, and at lunchtime $7. I love it, but it may not be your thing if the concept of grilling your own food doesn't appeal to you.

There are a couple I've been to in the downtown TO area - Grill Time on yonge (near college) and Korean Grill House on Queen street..line ups are usually crazy for the one on Queen, so I stick with Grill Time. I've also been to a Korean BBQ place in Mississauga but can't remember the name.

A non-sweet snack that I like is chopped fresh veggies (or baby carrots if you don't want to do any washing/chopping), dipped into salad dressing or hummus or spicy salsa.

Maintaining maintainers what is your bra size ? Mar 27 2010

Currently 32B or C depending on the brand. I actually prefer being on the smaller side, I think it allows for more flexibility in fashion choices. And as other mentioned there's always push up or padded bras when you need a little more.

Foods Soymilk and acne??? Jan 28 2010
00:58 (UTC)

Almond milk, rice milk, and hemp milk are some alternatives to soy milk. In another thread about soy alternatives, Rice Dream (rice milk) was recommended to me and I bought some a few days ago and thought it tasted really good (better than soy milk, imo) but it was a thinner consistency than I'm used to (I usually buy Natura brand soymilk). I've tried almond milk in the past, some people love it, I thought it was so-so, but it could have been the brand I bought.

I can't comment on the link between acne and soy milk (or peanut butter) though, sorry..

Maintaining I ate 1700 cal for lunch , how can I continue my day and tomorrow? Jan 22 2010
23:00 (UTC)
4

Usually what I do when I'm in that situation, having eaten a big meal early in the day, is try to eat filling but low calorie foods for my remaining meals. I like to have a can of soup, they usually have 2 servings in them and I eat the whole can, I look for the kinds that are about 120-150 calories per serving, so the whole can is 240-300, it's really filling, and satisfying (if you are into soup that is). The bad thing about canned soups is sodium content, if you like to cook you could always make your own to control sodium. Another options is making a big salad, but throw in some protein like maybe a boiled egg that you chop up, otherwise you'll probably still feel hungry. Or if you're in the mood for something sweet, then maybe make some oatmeal with cinnamon and brown sugar.

Others mentioned, and I agree, since you're hungry you should definitely eat something today, otherwise you may overeat tomorrow. Do expect to see a temporary water weight gain on the scale, which will go away in a few days (so don't weigh for a few days if seeing it will bother or discourage you). Tomorrow just return to normal healthy eating habits, as long as you're consistent with your diet over the long term, the occasional high calorie meal will not cause any weight gain.

Vegetarian too much soy! Jan 21 2010

I'm happy you posted this question! I've also been looking for a replacement for soy (milk mostly) since I noticed I go thru a lot of it, and now have started worrying about the link to hormone function in women. I guess I'll try Almond milk, Rice milk, or Hemp milk (if I can find it somewhere close by). I tried almond milk once before and it was okay, but not great, don't recall which brand.

Do any of you have a preferred brand of Almond milk?

Foods Where can you eat out and not feel one bit guilty? Jan 21 2010

I'd second Sushi (I'm a big fan of sashimi which is healthy and low cal. all the fancy rolls with tempura and mayo can be pretty high cal so I avoid those)

I'd also second Korean (I love Korean BBQ, though it can be protein heavy esp if you go to an all you can eat place, but I think it's worth saving up extra calories for).
