Health & Support Extreme thirst in anorexia recovery? Apr 03 2012

I know that I sure do experience extreme thrist, are you sure you are drinking enough? I know that I thought I was, but my doctor kept on picking up on dehydration whenever she did my orthostatitics.

Also, my dietician informed me that drinking too much can cause similiar symptoms! I know that I often over-drank to fill me up so I wouldn't feel so hungry (effectively messing up my hunger cues, and stretching out my stomach, ugh)

Sorry it is so confusing :/

Congratulations on finding  way out of ED, and good luck gaining to a healthy weight -- you can and deserve to do it! Make sure that you are gettin enough nutrition, you need around 2500 if you are under 25!

I would second the bit about stirring in some peanut butter -- very yummy and it makes the meal a lot more filling in my opinion! You can eat whatever you want at any time of the day -- don't worry about it! :D

Thank you for everything, guys.

I like the reassurance, and I guess I use it to justify eating better. If a lot of people give me the same opinion, it can mean a lot, and I want to really thank you guys for that!

It helps a lot to hear from people who have gone through similiar situations and presevered.

louisevineeta -- thank you for being proud of me :)

tytyfan -- That is really interesting; I had a real problem with my face being incredibly flushed all the time before I developed an ED -- wow, I wonder if my hormones are partially responsible for some of my symptoms? Seeing a gyno would be a good idea!

Thank you guys! I really hope that my posts don't get annoying, but it is definitely true that I should probably try to stop asking for reassurance so much!

Out of curiosity -- where/ how do people measure their hips? I feel like I might be doing it wrong!

Aw man, I wish I could have discussed this with my doctor today, but she couldn't come in to the office today. I am a student and I see her at the student health center and she had a "regular job" at a hospital not on campus. I can speak to her on Tuesday.

I am just wondering, I have been getting 2500 MAX with decent exercise, so could it really be my metabolism? I mean, that would be great, if that means it is speeding up!

ramona95xox -- Don't worry about not responding!! It's totally okay, and I never did go to the hospital, and my doctor thinks that I should be safe until I see a cardiologist on April 20th as long as I am going to my weigh-ins/check-ins at least once a week. I know, I am surprised that I did not end up there either, but I am happy that I am well enough to not end up there!

I was very upset because the results of my heart ultrasound might not be in until Tuesday. That's what I get for recieving care from the student health center. I have been trying to get back on the recovery bandwagon, although I did restrict a lot over spring break. Talking to my boyfriend and thinking about a lot of things helped, but the bottom line is that I want my jeans to be loose...

Thank you!

armandounc -- Thank you, I suppose I shouldn't be trusting how warm I physically feel unless I am taking my temperature. My boyfriend noticed it -- and my temperature definitely goes UP at night, even though I know that typically it goes down. I will wake up in the middle of the night and I will be intensely, rosy warm.

coeurage -- Hmm, I don't know if oestrogen is resposible either, I am on the Pill, so I have a "period" every month and my body is getting a steady dose of estrogen!

I have a very irregular heartbeat that I am under close watch by my doctors due to, sometimes my heartbeat dips into the 20-30s, and at random times during the day skyrockets to 160ish.

Could it relate to my high temperature and occasional coldness?

Right now I am doing a combination of calisthetics (about 90%) and weights (only about 10% of my workout, and it is only about a 5 pound weight)

Health & Support New Clothes after recovery? Mar 30 2012

Oh man, I can really, really relate to you!!! Ugh, I totally let my clothing stay in the way of embracing health, and I NEED to not do that anymore.

I can relate even more because my weight gain over the years has been very similiar to yours, even though I am an inch or two shorter!

Also, I take it you are probably shopping in the juniors department? Because the clothing there is SIZED smaller than in stores for young women! For example, at least in my experience, jeans from American Eagle fit me way better (and at a smaller size) than the junior's jeans I used to buy from JC Penney!

You should go shopping and buy yourself some new things, because you deserve them! And, after all, you are still incredibly thin and definitely not in jeopardy of having to buy a "huge" size, although I can relate, I always think the same thing before shopping, too.

Hey guys, saw my doctor today, it was all very depressing. Haha, I don't want to be a downer, though.

She is very concerned, and I lost weight over spring break and she is very concerned. I am seeing a cardiologist soon, and the results of the echocardiogram should ACTUALLY be in by Friday, I was disappointed that they didn't have the results today.

Health & Support Should I Be in the Hospital?? Mar 25 2012

Thanks guys! I am just so scared because since yesterday I have been getting numbness in my extremities -- and some intense chest pain. The problem I have with my hip (that I am currently going to physical therapy twice a week for,) is getting worse -- and the pain travels down into my shins now.

stargirl213 -- Thank you so much, it is really reassuring to hear that eating maintanence, or even a little over, is necessary is needed right now. It is tough because I have been having a really hard time with restricting these past couple of days. I have been getting 1300-1800; and maybe 2000 on one day; so not intense restricting in any way.

melodic -- I do have friends that I can text while all of this is going on, and believe me, I certainly will! That is so great that your friend was able to help you like that; people are the most amazing things sometimes. I don't think that I have bradycardia, because my heart rate jumps to about 160 at rest and about there on a daily basis.

Still trying to figure out what to do; so scary. I just DO NOT want to gain weight -- trying on clothes yesterday while shopping wiht my boyfriend was HORRIFYING. We went to buy clothes for me when I am a little healthier -- my team is thinking around 120; and I am at about 111, (I'm 5'5") I think. So not very underweight at all. I fit into the same small sizes at some places, and not so much in others. I ended up buying a single pair of jeans that were 2 sizes larger than what I wear, and they were HUGE, and my boyfriend took me back to return them today. Freaked me out too much.

Health & Support Should I Be in the Hospital?? Mar 23 2012

Man, so I take it the general consensus is "yes" I need to be hospitalized. I am really scared. I don't know, right now I don't really have access to a hospital the way I will on Tuesday -- and I think that whoever is performing the echocardiogram on Monday will probably not think that I need to be immediately hospitalized.

This is very scary, and I am still wondering, is this just arrythimia? Or is it heart failure?

And what is it that I need to do? I understand that I do not really need to be exercising right now, but what can I do to help? At this point is it about gaining weight or is it just about eating enough?

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
