Weight Loss getting help for my addiction Mar 11 2007

Today was a bad day for me, I have been eating really healthy for well over 2 months now and today something just snapped. I ate whatever I wanted to eat. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a binge, but it was definitely not healthy. I'm hoping it's just hormonal or something and doubly hoping that I'll be back on track tomorrow. Sooo many times I've completely given up over just one binge, but now I realize that I'm not perfect and that's okay!

Don't give up!

You shouldn't be scared about being 116 pounds unless you are 4 feet 10 or shorter. You should use the BMI calculators on this site or ask your doctor what is a healthy weight for you.

How frustrating! Someone answered a question of mine about omega-3 fats with the comment that consumption of these fats (found in almonds, fish, etc...) help with tummy fat. You may want to look into this. I think it has something to do with the hormone cortisol as well. Good luck with your research!

Go get some GOOD chocolate, expensive stuff I mean. After that, maybe you won't settle for the drug store kind and you won't eat a whole bag of "substandard" chocolate. Or maybe not...it's hard to say what level your addiction is!! ;o)

$4.50 will buy you:

1 big bag frozen mixed veggies

1 bag dried mixed beans

3 cans tomatoes

1 can chicken broth

plus water

All cooked together, this will make a HUGE pot of very healthy vegetable soup, full of fiber, vitamins and very filling. I freeze at least 4 jars of this (jars saved from pasta sauce and such) AFTER I've eaten as much as I can stand for 3 or 4 meals.

It can be done, you just have to be creative and willing to change your tastes! good luck!

Are you burning 2000 calories running? Or 2000 total daily? If the 2000 is in addition to your BMR, from what I understand from researching, and I'm by no means an expert, you should be eating more. If you need 1400 a day just to survive and you burn 2000 extra that day that totals 3400 calories burned, so you should be eating somewhere around 2900 calories for your 500 calorie a day deficit. You could be halting your metabolism by not feeding it enough. Someone please correct me if I'm misrepresenting facts here!!

There's just a difference between good fuel for your body and bad fuel. It's like running your car with bad/dirty gas, yes it may run, but something in it is likely to go bad a lot quicker than if you had good fuel. That's how I look at it anyway. Now that's not to say that I don't indulge within my calorie limits every once in a while...

Thanks for the replies, I did manage to eat some today - bread, carrots, grapes. Kallie, I'm totally with you on being ravenous when I feel better, it must be the body's natural way of saying "Feed Me!!" Hopefully tomorrow I won't be eating everything in sight!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

I have never tried a program that prepackages food and that's just because I think I would be doing my body just as much or more a disservice by eating all processed/packaged foods as I would be cooking my own high calorie, high fat meals. Preservatives/MSG/other ingredients you can't pronounce are REALLY not good for you and neither is having everything you eat come out of a plastic coated container. What has worked for me is educating myself (mainly on this website!) about using food as a fuel for my body and how my body uses different types of food. I have lost 10 pounds in the past 6 weeks just by balancing my diet and counting calories, it's like a game to me now! Good luck with whatever you choose!

Give your poor self a break! You're going to need at least a 5 pound range to be happy in. If you really want to do something, try tweaking your calories. You may even be surprised that increasing your calories by 100 or 200 may boost your metabolism. Good luck!

Are you excercising your thighs and butt with weights? If so, you may be bulking up because of increased muscle mass, I go very lightly on the lower body strength training since that's my biggest half.

WHEN this happens to me (I've been wearing clothes a little too snug so I used to get the same comments from husband but my clothes are fitting just right for now!) I plan to buy very basics - black pants, black skirt, 2 jeans - and just wear those out until I need a new size. Believe me, people don't notice like you think they would! Congrats!

I would say a size 8 but since the way clothing is sized has changed so much since I actually was a size 8, I think that would be more like a size 4 and that just doesn't sound right? Really, I'll be happy in whatever size I wear when I'm 140 pounds.
Weight Loss Annoying plateau. Suggestions to help me out? (long-ish) Feb 20 2007

You may want to research "starvation mode" and up your calorie intakes. Sometimes your body will hold on with all its might if it doesn't think you're eating enough. Personally, I had to increase from 1200 calories to 1400 to break through a plateau. Good luck!

I meant to say in my response, that I learned that I needed to up my calories by reading posts on "starvation mode" Do a search and read up, if you're at a plateau, it may help to look into this.

I think it's great that you've found what works for you and your body. I personally plateaued on 1200 calories (even though I felt full and thought I could never up that) but 1400 just happens to be my magic number. I think it all has to do with your metabolism, activity level, and everybody's just different. As long as you're a healthy weight for your age and height, I wouldn't worry about it. CC has plenty of calculators and such to figure all that out...

For me, mostly, and my self esteem/confidence. But also, I want to be so fricken hot for my husband's sake. Also, unfairly so, he is getting better with age! So I don't want to be the fattie mom with a hottie husband!

I was on the same track as you with calories and excercise. And while I'm no expert, I've been reading a lot lately about "starvation mode" which I think I put my body in on 1200 calories a day. When I increased my calories, I actually started to lose weight because appearantly I boost my metabolism with the extra calories. It may be a stretch, but you might be able to look at your indulgence as a metabolism boost?!? But even if it is,  I wouldn't suggest it very often!!
