Like others here have said, the annecdotal weight gain may be because artificial sweeteners are said to perpetuate a taste for sugary foods. Weight gain is through eating other sugary foods made more desirable by drinking the sugar free frink. Personally, it doesn't work that way for me. I find a diet sprite (can't abide coke)every now and again (1 a fortnight -tops- is all I seem to "require") zaps a sugar craving rather than creates it. Not everyone's brain works the same I guess. As for the Dr Hyman theory mentioned above: My BS alarm rings everytime someone mentions "toxins" as part of their diet/metabolism theory........freakin toxins.....sheesh! |

I often look at old photos to remind myself what I used to look like and to reinforce that I cannot go back there. I also keep some old "reference" clothing from my larger days. Again to see where I came from and where I don't want to be again I don't want people to think "Oh....she's let herself go" (generally, I probably care too much what other people think - but for this, I think it is OK)

As you get closer to your low weight, loss will slow down alot. However, sounds like you need to give yourself a break from the level of exercise you are doing. If you are getting sick of it now, how are you going to maintain your weight? You will probably need to continue exercise to maintain. I'd take a break for a couple of weeks to refresh your body and mind. Then if you haven't already, I'd introduce some weight/resistance work. IMO I think you should also increase your cals. for your age, height and activity, you should be taking in more to fuel yourself. Rest, recharge, then go at it again with a new approach |

I had a phobia about lasagne for the last 10 or so years (yeah, go ahead and laugh). The phobia arose because there was a period in my life back then, over about a 6 month span, where whenever I made lasagne there was a major disasterous event in my life (like really major - a family death, major relationship breakup). Sounds crazy, I know, but since then I would even freak if my husband ordered it in a restaurant (it certainly wasn't allowed to enter the house and I would never entertain MAKING it). Good news for me is that over this christmas period I have overcome the phobia. I decided that this was so much nonsense. I MADE a lasagne. We all ate it. All are still alive. The phobia is crushed. Long live lasagne!!!! Sad but true...... |

As long as you never try to stretch a cold muscle, you can stretch before running as well as after. However in the interests of time saving, I usually only do afterwards. Stretching afterwards is quite sessential. Before is optional IMO |

3 miles is probably a little too ambitious for a first run! Take time to build up or you will damage yourself and be unable to do anything. You will get used to running. don't worry. |

an aussie cheese and salad sandwich is comfort food for me. Has also fueled generations of aussie kids, particularly during the summer months. tasty cheese, tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce (no fancy stuff), cucumber (skin ON), grated carrot (has to be grated, not sliced), white salad onion rings, and tinned beetroot slices (has to be tinned not fresh). On white bread (traditionally) or wholemeal (my personal preference). A "modern" twist is to add some avocado. Ham can be substituted for cheese or added in addition to cheese. I am salivating right now |

You'll be fine. You wont gain. There should be no reason why you can't eat more than 1400 on a regular basis and still lose . Eat more food and you probably wont be as hungry. |

My problem is that I really really....no....... really like meat. My husband and I both became vego for animal welfare reasons. I was healthy whilst being a vego and always made sure I ate well nutritionally. (Probably too well. I put on alot of weight). I became seriously anaemic after 3 months of very heavy and constant bleeding due to uterine fibroids. I had to get my iron stores back up quickly but couldn't handle the iron supplement tablets (gross side effects). I started to eat red meat again which did wonders for my iron stores, but unfortunately found that I enjoyed eating meat too much to go back to being a vego. Also, I missed eating sashimi......so much And now my husband has been diagnosed with celiac disease. The thought of trying to organise an interesting vegetarian celiac menu is just too much for me to contemplate (and yes-we both eat the same-I havent the energy to work 2 menus). I still have trouble reconciling all this with my distress over animal welfare issues. No resolution yet. |

I tend to put pilates (like yoga) in the basket of "if I have extra time left over after my weight training and cardio" I'll add a class. Both have been great in the past for me to add some more "functional strength" to my workout routine. However, I am reluctant to substitute pilates for part of my established routine. I think it depends on if you have the time. If you really have time to do two gym workout sessions a day (!!!!?).......then go for it. However, I would perhaps add 1 pilates (or 2 maybe a week) plus, more importantly if you want to lose a bit of weight, two "good" weight/resistance training sessions a week. Just be careful of overtraining. Personally, I'd trade a couple of the lunchtime cardios for some weight training. |

I think kikt has bought up some good points here. Whilst the idea of "just eat half" useful, I think you have to be sensible how you apply it. The idea is in the same ballpark as what I did to lose and mantain weight, but not so extreme. I essentially reduced my portion sizes (not halved all the time- that would be serious deprivation and I would go hungry) by 1/3 to1/4 for most main meals. Like kikt, I didnt cut every meal component in half, but looked to see what components could be cut and which didnt need to be (I do the same thing with pasta- 1/2 pasta, double tomato veggie sauce!_can't do the wholeweat pasta tho-hate the stuff). Desserts etc were cut to1/4 (ie more than half). So yes, I think the general approach is theoretically sound. Just needs tweaking to make it a viable lifestyle thing (nurtitionally especially) - works for me though |

HA! never an issue for me. I always eat everything in front of me. Find it congenitally impossible to leave food behind on a plate. If I don't want myself to eat it, I don't plate it out. What I do sometimes tho is fill in my CC log before I eat with what I think I will eat. Then I go plate it, but may not plate it all cos it looks too much. If this happens I do not go back and adjust CC. Like others here, I like to have this "buffer" of calories cos I know I probably "overspend" in other areas unwittingly. |

OK...I lied....well not really lied.....just forgot....cos I haven't had them in YEARS: I don't EVER drink regular sodas/soft drinks/sports drinks (ie with real sugar in them...but I do drink diet ones) |

Nuffin' is being given up..... life is too short to do that if you don't have to (ie allergies etc withstanding). I choose to enjoy things I like in moderation most of the time. And extremely immoderately a small amount of the time. All balances out. I'm doin' fine..... |

Yeah, the chafing, sweating and stinging is blah I have always had the same problem. I can't wear shorts whilst running cos while I am running, my thighs sort of stick together with the sweat (sorry for the mental images guys...) and the pain and rashes afterwards is horrendous. The only thing which works well is completely covering the area in fabric. Any type - doesn't matter what - cotton, polyester, polar bear fur - it all works. As long as the area down to mid thigh is covered, I'm covered. |
