The Lounge How much do you spend on clothes? Apr 24 2012

I love shopping... I think I spend about $600-$800 in a single year on clothes (dresses, skirts, tank tops mostly). But they're all not expensive per piece. About $100 max. for a dress, most of them cost about $30-$50. I do lots of online shopping - I think they're much cheaper and so convenient and I could do it anywhere, anytime. So easy when shipping is also free for a lot of websites.

I'm on an LDR for a year and 8 months now... and only seeing my boyfriend in Minnesota in June for a month and a half. We live continents away. The last time I see him in person was in January. But we Skype about 3-4x a week for an hour each time, and text each other every single day... so my take on this matter is, it's up to an individual and how they see relationship as.

I find it tough if you guys can't have a relationship openly, his kid doesn't wanna see you so there's a tension there, and you see each other every other week, which is more than what I could have for now... so, I feel that if love is there, it will work out no matter what. Sounds cheesy, but you will definitely fight to make it work. If you feel like giving up, then give it up because ultimately, if he's worth your heart, you would do anything for him.

Have you talked to him about your feelings regarding the communication you aren't satisfied with? You should ask your own heart if you still love him. If you have to ask other people if you still love him or not, then I feel that the relationship is in need for some repairs.

The Lounge Anybody else work in a restaurant? Apr 23 2012

I have worked in restaurants/bars/hotel for many years part-time and full-time before while pursuing my studies so I do have some helpful tips!

- Be helpful to your colleagues! You don't know when you need them to help you when you're in the weeds aka when you're so swamped with tasks.

- Some customers can be ****. Learn to grow some thick skin against hurtful comments.

- Be quick on the job, don't hold up a station if you can. Don't dilly-dally.

- Be groomed. Don't need to have fancy manicures because they're gonna be ruined after a hard day's work.

- Wear proper safety shoes if you can. People can accidentally step on your feet and it's totally painful. My toes are still in bad shapes because women wearing heels just love stepping on them. :(

- Focus on your customers and not be complacent. If your customers run away from paying a bill, you might be liable. It depends from restaurant to restaurant. I learn not to trust people blindly - I will ask for their credit card if I doubt them. I don't care if they think it's bad service - I don't wanna have to pay for their food and drinks while I work for free!

- Always be sincere. People can see if your smile's fake or real. Try to be understanding while doing your best to give the customers the benefit of the doubt. It's just a job and it's easier to work if you have a healthy attitude towards it.

So many things I could say.. but yeah, don't over promise and under deliver. Try your best but don't promise anything you can't keep. Best of luck!

The Lounge how tall are you? Apr 22 2012

I'm 5'7" without shoes and that's pretty tall for an Asian, but I have always wished to be 5'10" or heck, 5'11" would be a dream come true!! I've always liked the looks of tall people. When I go out to nice places, I'd wear 3-4 inch shoes, so naturally I'd be tall after that... but oh how I wish I could be naturally 5'11"!

The Lounge The words "I love you" Apr 21 2012

It is often true that the words "I Love You" have been abused... but personally, I have only said those words to 2 men ever, my ex-boyfriend and my boyfriend. (My ex-bf and I lasted for over a year and it wasn't due to us not loving each other anymore. Rather, it was circumstances so we decided to end it and over a year is way longer compared to a typical 19 year old girl's summer flings etc) And I was the first to say those words to them before they said I love you back after that. I always believe in making the move when my heart says so, and I was glad I did it, for both times. :) Often times, people always wait for the "right moment", even when they held themselves back from saying those words that they wanna say when they really wanna say them!

I told my boyfriend of 1 year and 8 months now that I loved him about a week after I met him. (I told my ex that a month into our relationship) I couldn't describe the overwhelming amazing feeling I got when I told him that. I didn't give a **** if I scared him off for being too "forward" (is there such a thing?!) or anything because I felt that if he felt the same way about me, he would say I love you back, and if not, well it's over.

It of course, depends on everybody's personality. I am more of a go-getter and I believe that if I have feelings for someone, I am not gonna let him get away and let other women snatch him up. He's such a catch and I am glad I made the first move and I can forever tease him about that. "Hey baby, remember who's the first one of us to say those 3 words... ;)" Haha.

Also are they good to eat despite the high sugar

Yes. And the sugar is natural "fructose" and the fiber helps to keep you full for a long time + all the added vitamins. 130 calories is NOT crazy. By your definition, it seems that food has to be low calories and low sugar, which you could also get from eating rice cakes but they're not necessarily as nutritious as an apple.

Heck, even the avocado, with all its high fat content and all, is very health-promoting. I don't know about you, but "eating healthy" is not just about calories. Or else people could just be eating Twinkies all day as long as they don't go over their calories budget for the day.

I have never heard anyone ask if eating an apple is good. It has always been good! Am I missing a clue here? Foot in mouth *shakes my head*

Oh dear, I don't know how long those food can last.. but I won't take the chances, because bacteria can grow.. and you don't wanna risk getting any stomach flu or ache.

Is it anywhere possible to get some food while you're on the trip? At the very least, I think you could pack in food that can last, like apples and oranges, trail mix, nuts, cereal bars, beef jerky, canned tuna... you know, food that is actually "packaged".

Hope that I helped a little... have fun!!

A busy intersection?  So...people are stopping in a busy, heavily trafficked intersection to mock you?  Seems dangerous, to me.

Still don't believe it.  Why would you continue to do that if you were being assaulted and harassed and threatened in such a manner?  Why would your employer continue to put you on the street like that?  Can't be that high paying of a job, I can't imagine what perks would make it worth it.  Where do you live that this type of behavior is the norm?  And why is it going unreported?

I do think you're exaggerating.  I do.  And that's okay.

I should have clarified. I stand on the traffic median next to a four-way intersection. People harass me while they wait for the light to turn green.

I do this job because I need the money. I get paid eight dollars an hour, which isn't much, but it's better than minimum wage.  I've been looking for a new job for months but I haven't found anything. I don't have a college degree or a car so my options are pretty limited.

When my boss found out that a homeless guy spit on me, his response was, "She chose this job. She doesn't have to work here if she doesn't want to. We have plenty of other people who are willing to work." I haven't reported anything since then.

I don't report this stuff to the police because I don't want to be "that girl" that floods their inbox every day with complaints. Plus, I suspect there's not much they can do about it. I don't want to waste their time.

Surprisingly, I don't work in the bad part of town. There's a Starbucks directly behind me and several fine dining restaurants next to my intersection. Most of the people I encounter are white collar workers, upper middle class soccer moms, and the usual Starbucks aspiring writer/phographer runoff. But there's also a major interstate about five miles down the road (and a hidden homeless camp), which explains why so many transients come through my area.

Why would I make this stuff up? My boyfriend will vouch for me. So will my sign-holding coworkers. I'm not the only one who gets harassed like this.

I believe you. I worked some odd jobs before in sales & etc that require me to be out there promoting stuff, and yes people can be real cruel. I put on a little bit of make up when I worked even though some days I didn't put on anything my colleagues would definitely tease me for looking "plain" etc. But yeah, all the snarky remarks from total strangers like "Get a real job", "You're a bi-tch" etc does happen! Not too often, maybe 3-5x in a shift but maybe because the average Singaporeans are known to be quite reserved and not "confrontational". But still, those remarks were just nothing but cruel. I don't know why some people would bother to be mean to other people they don't know, but they just do. Thankfully I never came across anyone who would spit at me, though I had money being thrown to my face when some as$hole wasn't too happy about the price of his booze. :/

When you do a job that put you out there for people to criticize and make remarks about you, you gotta be strong and it helps you to build confidence as well once you got over the stupid comments. I used to work at Hooters for nearly a year, so I do know that physical looks do matter especially when you're earning tips etc. It's the society and like you said, it's the JOB. Can't handle it, stay out of the kitchen. I stuck to it for as long as I could until I had enough savings to just say bye-bye to the job. :) Few women actually came up to me to my face before to tell me that I was a **** for her boyfriend kept staring at me and I wasn't even their waitress :/ It shocks me how people can be cruel, but I feel that as long as we're not the cruel ones, we are okay.

I hope that you'd get a better job soon because everyone has a limit to how much crap they can tolerate. Good luck, girl.

That is such an amazing story... love's wonderful. Life is just so unpredictable... we just have to learn to not take things for granted and not regret anything. There are days when I feel like I wanna give up and just die, but when I read stories like this and when I knew of a sudden death of a good friend just days ago and he just celebrated his 21st birthday last week. That was painful.

I know now not to ever wish for my life to end or think about giving up again when the goings get rough because I now realize that what I have now, which is time, is just precious. I never really knew the meaning of it until the death of my friend. I was quite desensitized when it came to stories like this before, but now I feel like life has taken a totally different meaning for me, for the better. Reading this, just makes me feel sad but at the same time, more determined to do good with my life.

Seize the day, never waste it away, and just carry on because we don't know when our time will be up.

Weight Loss dinner plans changed suddenly Apr 19 2012

Yum, that menu Ponderosa Steakhouse has looks amazing! I think with 700 calories, you can get away with a lot of things/combination. Grilled shrimps, green salad with dressing on the side, a plain baked potato and you can even have a beer/glass of wine to get to 700 calories.

Personally if I have 700 calories there, I would go for the 8 oz Sirloin steak (~430 cals) which is the leanest cut available since I don't see a filet mignon on the menu, some mash or baked potato, and a glass of red!

I hate it when dinner plans change too, but we gotta be flexible and do what we have to do. :)

Good luck!

You can take a supplement, but there's always ways you can include iron in your diet. Like a cereal in the morning, or a nice serving of meat and spinach for dinner.. etc. I don't always hit my iron target for the day, but if you try, it should be possible without even a supplement. :)

Like what others have said, people want to believe in something.

When all they need to do, is just to use the simple old way of calorie in = calorie out. Move more, eat less - that's the basis of any weight loss. I believe in calorie counting and to a certain extent, the type of food we eat do play a part in the satisfaction level of eating... if I try to eat 2,000 calories of candies VS 2,000 calories of meat, I am so much happier with the latter.

I would stay away from them. They're so high in sugar if you consume them with the syrup and even then, some of it would be stuck to the fruits. If you need a good snack, this is not one of them, imo.

Here are my personal thoughts...

I feel like some people (in a club or in the vicinity) perceive me to be arrogant or unfriendly because I like to dress up in dresses and just mind my own business. So me, with my drinks and ciggies, and the women would think that I'm not keen to talk to them. But my close friends know that I am one of the most sociable people around - just not gonna be the kind to butt into anyone's conversation without being invited, you know? I am a casual person, though my dressing style does not reflect that (I just don't like to wear jeans and t-shirts!)

In bars or restaurants, I don't feel anything different other than the occasional special treatments (free drinks, no cover anyone?) but I attribute it to me being polite and smiley though sometimes, I bet they're trying to get to know me. Flattering but I have a great boyfriend! Once, a waiter just told me, "Well, I'm sure you have a boyfriend, but you look like you can have more." That was funny. What a gutsy move. Laughing

As far as my ethnicity is concerned, I absolutely hate it when people typecast me as a typical Asian (because we all know that nothing is worse than being bundled up as one of anything!). I am not thin because I'm Asian (I work my ass off to stay this way!), I am not smart because I'm Asian, I am not giggly because I'm Asian... I just cringe each time someone makes a remark like, "Oh, you're such a typical Asian." NO. :|

Well, I have more, but these are all that I be sharing for now lol.

Original Post by dotdeangelo:

I am weighing myself everyday first thing in the morning. I am doing this so that I can learn to except the normal fluctuations. I am hoping to remove the emotions that go with both the ups and downs. Then I can really focus on healthy habits. In the past if I only weighted myself once a week, month etc... and that may have been the day that my weight was up or down (due to sodium, female stuff etc) I would equate that to good/bad. I am still not 100% separated from the good/bad syndrome but I feel as if I am going in the right path (for me).

I am with you there! :)
