Weight Loss What am I doing wrong? Jul 31 2008

I'm the same weight you are just ten years younger. I eat on average about 1200 cals a day and do 20-30 mins of low to high intensity cardio 4-6 times a week.

It seems to be working as I am gradually losing about 2 lbs a week, though I can go up 6 lbs in one day if I deviate and have saltier than usual foods it usually comes back off in about three days or so.

I find it helps to always divide your day up. You should be eating every 3 to 4 hours anyway to raise your metabolism. If you plan out to eat at least 5 times a day say from 9 a.m through to 9 p.m you can get some decent sized 300 calorie meals in there and even have time for some small snacks in between.

Weight Loss can fruit make you gain weight? Jul 31 2008

You may be eating too much fruit. A calorie is a calorie, though there are "healthier" calories, you should keep in mind that too much of anything (includign fruit) can add to weight gain.

Everything in moderation, too many people assume that because they are eating well, they aren't overeating.

Weight Loss Trying to loss weight without counting calories Jul 29 2008

I don't count calories myself. But I generally eat healthy small portions and have an idea of hoe many calories are in the intake. You'll still need to count calories at least "technically" as you shoot for a ball park with each meal.

Check out my log and see what I eat, if you want to go through the painstaking ordeal of checking out the calories in all of the foods I list, I'm willing to bet my left leg they don't go over 1300 a day and I never count them. This personally for me is the best way as it let's me fluctuate my intake day in and out without much effort. :)

Huh? This is not a crash diet... this is shuffling calories. The pattern is eating more on the other day, this works if you are sedentary, you are blowing things out of proportion I think...

Weight Loss Hydroxycut Jul 22 2008

When I first started working out I hit a plateau because I did the same exercise everyday, instead of changing up my routine, I took some hydroxycut to help boost it, lost about 2 lbs (this is the formula without the ingredient that was banned in the states) in less than two weeks I gained ten pounds after taking it....

Will never try them again lol.

Diet wise, I'd cut down to 1200 calories a day on average, I'd probably shift between - 1200 - 1250 - 1100-1200-1300-1250-1100-  in an average week.

While doing this, I'd take a daily multivitamin, adding complex carbs and fruits and vegetables to my intake.

This is what my current routine is like (though I no longer take vitamins), I also drink green tea every day and nothing but water.

On Sundays because of our home traditions would be the only exception of me having a beverage aside from my normal water with food, the beverage is usually along the lines of a heavy dietary supplement like malt with barley, a coconut milk punch, a mango shake or protein shake which are all chock full with vitamins and very filling.

It sounds like you're not varying your calories or your exercise routine enough. You need to really start mixing things up and fooling your body or it tries to get smart on you!

Weight Loss execising everyday and eating everyday.. does losing weigth works? Jul 17 2008

Flaviajane,

Yea I didn't even bother to address the rice at night because I think that is a good thing, keep that up, but the noodles you could probably prepare on the Sunday before your work week starts and just keep in the fridge and use for three days then prepare a new batch mid week.

Sometimes to save time, you just need to eat the same things over and over, not only is it less time preparing seperate meals, but you keep a constant calorie intake that you can easily count. One meal being the same 5 days out of the month back to back is ok as long as you bounce around with the calories in the other throughout the day I think.

Anyway, your eating habits seem ok to me, keep up the good work :)

Flaviajane,

Sounds good for your calories, but it could be healthier, when you say fried egg and fried noodles I immediately think oil and fatty and you could actually break that down, take lunch and make that into two meals.

Here's what I'd do.

Breakfast around 8ish (you might be an early morning person I usually weake up around 11):

Replace that one fried egg with egg whites, 1 large egg white is around 20 calories and about 12 protein, so you could probably have 2 egg whites fried in a hint of olive oil or three scrambled egg whites with some sea salt, fresh basil/oregano and a dash of pepper. A side of toast preferably whole wheat on the side one to two slices, with natural jam or a slice of low fat cheese.

Snack: Protein shake or that very milk and cocoa you usually have, but I usually only take one dairy product during the day, so if you do take cheese, I would probably change the snack to a granola bar or something, if you take jam I'd take the glass of milk or another dairy product here

Lunch:

1-2 cup of whole wheat noodles mixed in a chopped vege stir with a hint of olive oil or butter substitute. Fresh chopped orange, apple or Mango on the side. Water for drink.

See, that's two nice healthy meals and you wouldn't have to change much, just how you prepare them and adding in a few side dishes for nutritional value. Hope this helps :)

Wow! We're about the same! I'm roughly 140 (according to my scale, which is very different from the one at the doctor's office) and want to get down to about 125 or 120. I'm also 5' 3" like you. I started dieting very seriously about two days ago. Like you, I can't afford health food. My diet right now is low calorie, but not exactly the healthiest. The only fruit I can afford is bananas, and they're way too high in calories so I don't really eat much (maybe a bite). I'm exercising about an hour a day (walking and jogging), and living mostly off of canned soups and beans (sodium, I know, but I'm young. I can take it. :P ). They're cheap and low cal (like pork and beans, tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, etc.). I'm also drinking soy milk (2 cups a day) because my mom says I need to to lose weight. >.>

Awesome :D Keep it up! I hope we can motivate each other, it sounds like you have a good choice in diet, just remember to always take a day for yuorself from exercising to let your body repair.

I tend to give up when water weight creeps back on because even though it's water weight it's so dscouraging, the longest I have gone on a 5 daays a week program has bene one month in which I managed to lose 10 lbs with exercise and around a 1200 calorie intake. This time around I am going to try to press for 3 months and slowly creep up from there as needed.

Good luck to you! :)

hi thanks for the reply.

sea salt is hard on the kidney's when taken in too large of quantities and will retain water.

most likely a table spoon would be ok - not sure. sea salt does have a lot of nutrients in it and might be good for hypothyroid (not sure). i used to take kelp supplements for my thyroid - it did help.

i figured out how to track a topic i responded to. there is a lot i have to learn so i need to hang out more and learn stuff.

I usually use two tea spoons of sea salt in 32 ounces of water, rather than retain it I pee my brains out all day long! I do not do this often though, it is just a modification of a popular cleanse in which the results of the seas salt water flush I found particularly beneficial and invigorating. I try to do it at least once a week.

What are the benefits of kelp?

I am also new by the way, welcome to the board :) I have no idea how to track my topics though lol

I love this thread... I thought we were supposed to be encouraging and making ourselves knowledgeable about HEALTHY weight loss..

Normally, I would have ignored this but it's infuriating. I asked an intelligent question not too long ago about herbal supplements and extracts and no one responded. Yet someone makes a thread about a starvation diet and 47 people respond? The majority positively? Pathetic..

Well there are two aspects at hand here, weight loss and getting rid of toxins so of course it raises many questions once you start to weigh the two together , it is not necessarily a starvation diet depending on how long, you do it and the purpose of you doing it. Of course because of the many interpretations many replies can be expected on these sort of things.

I am sorry I have no input on  herbal supplements, as I have no experience using them or have done no research on them I cannot be of assistance.
