Fitness How do I politely ditch a personal trainer? Jan 29 2010

^yeah right on, a dose of truth is called for..

I'm so over being a polite freak to people, esp in the professional sense. people don't catch their mistakes if you lie to them about their performance. Just be tactful.

you could write a note card that praised him/her for their efforts, but explain you have a different style/agenda and are ready to move on so that your goals are met at the pace you have in mind. You can say "I suggest next time a client explains their goals, try to please them rather than repeat your favorite routine".

Or just send the message by booking another trainer and canceling. They probably have had that happen often.

Fitness Your Shape for Wii... Jan 06 2010

I got this for xmas and have tried it out three times now.. I'll be honest, I never get past the first "evaluation" workout needed to set up a profile and begin. Tonight after setting it up for 40 minutes *again* I feel like giving up with the silly "webcam" style apparatus it requires altogether, although I am aware the problem may be the room I'm in..

My living room is a long room with dark walls and large white blinds. I only work out using this game after dark and the room's lighting is poor(the main source would backlight me, thus I have brought all sorts of lamps in to light me clearly from the front). I also tried on different clothing combos to create a clear outline against the background as suggested.

It's hard to figure out why the darn thing is not really picking up my movements since the game never indicates there was any difficulty during the body scan.

I can see myself performing very closely to the moves shown, like jumping jacks and squats, yet it says I'm at 0% or 11% and the animated Jenny McCarthy keeps telling me to "Watch me!" or "Take a look at the tutorial if you are having trouble".

I think this might prove impossible if I can't move the whole system into another room with nothing but a blank wall behind me.

I feel kind of rude asking for a new game to replace this gift from my boyfriend(I dropped the hint) but I am ready to give Wii Active a chance as frankly, I feel completely unmotivated to struggle with this game again and sadly, just a little embarrassed.Cry Not my recipe for an uplifting new workout routine!

Give it a shot if you feel your Wii is in an appropriate room and you can exchange it if it malfunctions like mine did.

Ah yes, my other favorite meal to appease my lean hungry man is a extra large grilled steak, with romaine salad and rice-a-roni. He does the grilling outside and I get the rice and salad done, easy, fast and cheap!

He will jump mountains for rice-a-roni, which is by no means healthy, but I portion 85% for him and only a small scoop on my plate.

For myself I prep a large bowl of salad with chopped nuts or seeds, dried cranberries, cherry tomatoes, avocado, maybe some feta and olive oil w/ lemon or red wine vinegar. I take a small part of the big steak, just a few ounces, and slice it over my salad. I add the warm rice right in and it's delicious!

He is served a massive steak, rice-a-roni a-plenty and a small ranch+crouton salad, we are both happy!

I am in such a similar situation with my BF. He's picky too. I always win him over with "burritos". I use browned ground turkey & spices, nonfat refried beans(he won't eat whole), cheddar- full flavor so you don't need much- and that's it for him. I bake them in the oven in foil for a bit.

For my "burritos" I add chopped lettuce and tomato after baking, and a little 'Marie Sharp's' Belizean green habanero/nopal hot sauce and avocado. My burritos have less than half the cheese and beans, or sometimes just turkey.

All the foil wrapped burritos keep for a while in the fridge, and reheat in the oven even tastier than before. He can make 'em when I'm out for a snack. I keep my fixin's in a tupperware and add them after reheating.

I do a similar meal but as breakfast burritos, eggs with cheese, pico de gallo and bacon on his and eggs with onion, zucchini or broccoli, light sprinkle of cheddar and hot sauce for mine.

hooray igloogal! I am starting up again with my weightloss/health plans and the Wii Fit is one of my tools to keep on track. I am aiming for three body tests weekly(to increase once I have maintained that level for a month) and for now just one 30-45 minute strength training routine and two 15-20 minute yoga routines per week.

I am starting this year with the goal to slowly add more structure, logging and diet changes month by month so I can get them all to stick and become my solid routine.

1) I will log meals 3 days per week(until I can commit to more often)

2)Wii Fit plus 3x/week as a way to track my weight and incorporate strength/yoga

2.5)Wii "Jenny Mccarthy" fitness 1x/week with small weights (this game is SO hardcore!)

3) teaching myself to plan/cook more healthy homemade meals that my boyfriend will actually eat, thus going for take-out less often. My goal is to prepare at least one dinner p/week on my night off that will provide plenty of leftovers.

4) less beer! Hard one for me as the fridge is always stocked. :(

5) using a pedometer on my hour long dogwalks 5x p/week to view my steps and push for higher and higher readings. I have between 5000-7000 on average currently.

Weight Loss wii advice Oct 30 2009

I have had the Wii and Wii Fit for 2.5 months (my bf's mom bought it for his birthday- lucky me!). I don't play many video games but I have started to use the Wii fit more and more, although for now I do one session per week and several weigh-ins. I have to slowly fit it into my schedule so I get habituated to it before I try to set a daily workout goal.

It is awesome for basic yoga moves, something I would otherwise never get out and do. I like yoga the most, but I am trying more of the fitness moves and they are both easy to follow and pretty challenging, and you actually keep your form well with the balance board scoring you for each exercise.

I have lots of fun playing with my boyfriend/friends/family doing the aerobics games like hula hoop, and balance games like heading soccer balls and ski slalom.

I recently bought an add-on pack called Wii Fit Plus at costco for $15 and it is great to have because you can choose from "workouts" of various combinations of moves or list your own, then do them all sequentially with out going to the menu again and again.

Weight Loss If I reached my ideal weight I would... Oct 21 2009

At my ideal weight I would wear the two pairs of Paige jeans I have stashed away that I bought when I was almost there about a year ago, and haven't fit into since.

At my ideal weight I will wear bikinis with a smile on, not getting embarrassed if other people join my BF and I in a hot tub. I hope to do this in mid February on my first ever cruise, with him Cool

I would walk my dogs on the beach in a sundress and not a huge pair of rolled up jeans and a baggy tshirt.

I would invest in new clothes that flatter my best features and explore my personal sense of style. I would go buy-out victoria's secret and get all the essentials in every color I like.

I would be more likely to dance when at shows and get down like I always did.

I have started buying fresh ingredients and cooking at home for my family. I have tried many new recipes this year and have found several dishes even my S.O. loves! I have as many fresh vegetables in my diet as I ever have since living on my own. I feel good about supporting several smaller local grocery stores too rather than the big one, I can afford them now that I buy less packaged foods and more deli, butcher and produce items.

How is your week going?

I had a tough time with some red velvet cake in my fridge (my bf's sweet brother in texas sent him one for his bday, and it's delish) but I've been busy at work and even better, my boy also got a new Wii! so I've been boxing, golfing, playing soul caliber and basically I'm impressed how that thing really makes you move around! I weigh-in tomorrow but I expect to be either the same or down 1/2 lb or so.

Also, I found my pedometer! Thanks nehajain, I will have to keep track next week and post up here.

I hope you are all having great weeks Cool

I have the non-hormonal one (paraguard) and I have decided it's absolutely the only form of contraception right for me! Mind you I am in a monogamous relationship and we both have regular testing done, otherwise it is not appropriate.

Hormones have wreaked havoc on my body from depo-provera in my teens (BAD idea) to the pill in my 20's. I have been happy and sane on my IUD for 6 years. Hormones messed with my head, weight and all around sanity. Evil stuff, I was irregular and moody all the time, and gained weight in a flash. Now I have a regular, predictable cycle and I know when I'm PMSing and how many days to expect symptoms for.

I will never ever go back to any hormonal form of contraception as I believe that is what caused me to have ovarian cysts and major surgery at a very young age! be warned.

edit: as for acne, well I am in my mid 20's and have cleared up most of my zits/clogged pores/major T-zone break outs by my 2x daily washing routine, however I still expect about one deep pimple per month, a week before my period. A big improvement over my previous face that always had a blemish visible. I am not sure how much hormones caused this, as my diet and makeup routines are so different. As for cramping and heavy bleeding, I have neither to any major extent, but on the pill I would have heavier bleeding or almost none. I would say out of approx. 12 periods per year, 2 of them are accompanied by serious cramping to the point I have to complain and use a warm compress. Not so bad I think.

I live in Santa Cruz, central CA with my 2 dogs, One is a Basset Hound and the other a Mutt, probably part Lab. I also walk several dogs for other people, a Labradoodle, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, a couple Dachshunds, a terrier mix and a Black Lab. I have always loved dogs and horses and held several jobs at animal rescue non-profits and Vet Hospitals.

I am 5'7" and at 150, I feel I could be healthier with at least 15 less pounds and more stamina than I currently have, so my goal is to quit seesawing up and down and keep track of my overeating, keep exercising daily with easy paced walking and also cutting down on excessive alcohol and poor sleeping habits.

I joined a group early this year and it was what finally motivated me to achieve my goal weight of 142, sadly after that point I became distracted with family affairs and without the group weigh-ins, I faltered. I am not back to 162 gladly, but I think I can maintain 140 if I relearn my previous habits and solidify them with the help of some friends. Laughing

The Lounge Mineral Makeup? Jul 29 2009

Original Post by smwhipple:

I love the Bare Esscentuals make up. I don't wear make up everyday, but when I do I prefer a powder foundation as it feels lighter to me on my skin. Also it seems to absorb oil throughout the day which helps me. I order it online through Sephora so I get free shipping and some extra samples.

I LOVE Sephora's!! I ordered the Bare Escentuals Mineral veil alone, as I don't wear colored foundation on my skin but need shine balancing properties and love a "finished" look at work in a dressy atmosphere.

I was relatively pleased, I was expecting a more "makeup-y" look but after I got used to it I did appreciate the subtle way it improved the soft look of my skin under horrid overhead lighting. It sets my powder blush and eyeshadow and I feel makes the colors stay put rather than fall off onto my face. I would recommend it over MAC's mattifying powder compact, which is dulling and flat in comparison. However on busy nights where I am slightly sweaty from running around it won't completely prevent shine from returning to my forehead. And forget about storing it in a drawer at work, it's too messy to travel with.

One last tip if you like a dewy natural glow, sometimes I spritz Sephora's radiance spray($12) over last thing before I walk out the door. it doesn't add sheen, just glow and removed the powder-dry look of all the makeup on my skin.

You can't beat free shipping and 3 samples per order!! I love love love the samples, I got a primer from "fresh", nina ricci perfume, anastasia's brow powder(lasted me months!!).

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
