Hi everyone...sorry I forgot to weigh in on Friday...work has been crazy to say the least.

SW:  151

CW (as of Friday 7/24) 149.5

GW:  130-135

I actually didn't even do the food log this week.  I'm going to try that for a while and see how it goes.

Don't know how good I'll do this week considering what I ate over the weekend...

Saturday I had chicken fingers and fries for dinner, and ice cream for dessert.  Sunday I went out to breakfast and had 3 pancakes, 3 slices of bacon, and a huge portion of ziti for dinner (yummy!) and again ice cream for dessert.  I feel so heavy today!  Need to eat better during the week.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi!

I stayed pretty much the same this week.  I've been extremely stressed out lately, maybe that's what is hindering my weight loss.  Hopefully this week will be better.  Going out for yummy thai food tonight, gotta remember my portion control!

amberailene - congrats on that weight loss!  Great job!

nieto914 - you can break through the plateau.  I've been stuck on one for about a month now.  Did you try changing your exercise routine?

How was everyone's weekend?

well I didn't seem to have as much luck as others...

SW:  151

CW:  151.5 (this could also be because of TTOM)

GW:  130-135

At this point I'll be really excited to get down into the 140s!  Hopefully next week.  I've been exercising a lot more and I think it's making a difference.

hotfuss - sorry you're scale might be broken.  It might be time to invest in a new one Frown

amykins - congrats on losing 2 pounds! that's a great accomplishment considering the times you went out during the week!  Keep up the good work!

tanyahenkel - 3 pounds!  that's really great!  Congrats on that!

First of all Congrats on your job going full time!  I know you'll have less free time, but you'll also have more money - always a bonus Smile

Original Post by ava_callahan:

I'm trying to lose weight, I recently stopped working part time and started working full time. I'm finding that because I'm so tired in the evenings that I don't want to exercise and there's no time anyway. Once I get home I have to organise dinner, do the dishes, shower, wash my clothes and prep myself for the next day at work.

I asked a similar question about a week ago.  Someone - don't remember who...made a great suggestion.  Cooking dinner when you get home can be very time consuming, instead - why not cook 2 or 3 meals over the weekend, that way when you get home all you have to do is throw it in the oven or microwave.

I too work full time.  I leave the house at 7am - get to work by 8:30am, leave around 5pm and get home between 6:45-7pm.  I still exercise when I get home.  I use the EA Active and only use it for about 30 minutes.  I'll then eat dinner and hop in the shower and get my stuff ready for the next day.

I guess the obvious answer is that I could go walking or go to the gym in the morning. But the issue is that I'm no good at getting up in the morning. And I don't own a car. So if I want to go to my nearest gym before work, I have to walk 20 minutes to get there, work out for an hour and then walk home for another 20 minutes. I could make myself do that if I had the time, but the gym doesn't open before 6am and then I wouldn't get home before 7:20 and then I'd have to shower and get dressed for work within 20 minutes after getting home so that I can catch the bus to work.

I too find that I can't get myself up in the morning - for me it's easier to do things when I get home.  Also, don't think that you can only exercise in a gym or at home.  If you work in an office - take the stairs.  My friend and I once a day (I'm going to try and do it more) will walk up the stairs to the 8th floor.  Make sure you're moving around throughout the day.  On your lunch break, go for a walk (if the weather is nice).

I simply don't know if walking for an hour every day is going to be enough exercise to lose the 10lbs that I want to lose.

I don't know if it will be enough exercise, but it's definitely better than nothing.  In the meantime, make sure you are eating the right amount of calories and try to work in exercise slowly.  Don't think you have to go to the gym everyday and spend hours there to get the results you are looking for.

Any thoughts?

What kinds of things to you all eat to stay in your calorie ranges?

Unlike, enigma - I can't eat that much in the morning.  This is what I'm eating today:

Breakfast: coffee with skim milk & splenda, light 'n fit strawberry yogurt and 1 cup of grapes - Total: 151

Snack: 30g of wheat thins fiber selection 5 grain & 1 wedge of laughing cow cheese - Total:  155

Lunch: whole wheat bread, 2 oz of turkey, 1 slice of american cheese, 1 tbsp of light mayonnaise, romaine lettuce, and 170g of baby carrots - Total:  460

Snack:  40g of craisins - Total:  131

Snack:  30g of dry roasted edamame - Total 130 calories

Dinner:  1 cup of spinach, 1 boneless/skinless/chicken breast, with some type of marinade with some starch on the side, probably lipton side -  Approx. total:  400 calories

That gives me approx. 1400 calories total.  I also continuously drink water throughout the day.  I rarely drink soda anymore, with lunch I'll have a diet snapple.  Also for a snack I'll have veggies and hummus, but my hummus recently went bad and I haven't bought more yet. Frown

jfourth - chances are if you are too nervous about getting up on time, you'll actually be up before your alarm clock.  I have done this many times.  Especially for finals or the bar exam.  But just in case, set your alarm on the other side of the room, set it as loud as it can go, and set it to the buzzer not the radio.  My husband wakes up to classical music, I would only want to go back to bed hearing that.  Good Luck!  Let us know how you do!

rebelrower - ummm...I'm female like you Smile although I must admit the photos of me with long hair and large boobs can easily mistake me for a man Smile I'm just teasing! but yes I am female.  Again, thanks for the info...I'll be sure to try it out tonight!

hotfuss - thanks for the compliment, I'll be sure to get the book and if it doesn't work I'm sure the book will make a great door stop. lol...

hotfuss - i just looked it up.  it sounds really interesting...do they have videos or is it just a book?  I can't really join a gym - I don't have the time to, but I can do things at home.  maybe some of these things I can do around the house?

I agree with the idea of weighing in on Friday - it does give you motivation to be good through the weekend.

laurenml - getting up in the morning can be difficult.  maybe trying to go to bed 1/2 hour or 1 hour earlier that way you'll still get the same amount of sleep.  I also agree with setting a couple of alarms and putting them across the room.  Or they do make that alarm clock that rolls around the floor and you have to chase after it to turn it off.  Or the other alarm clock that climbs a wall until it gets too high then you have to get a step stool to turn it off.  :-)

I like the chit chat...What is motiviating me to lose weight?  hmm...I remember when I could fit into these pair of shorts - size 6 and I looked really good.  I want to wear those again.  I also just generally want to be healthier.  I looked really good in college...but I also didn't really eat right.  Also, I want to be able to eat that extra slice of pizza or a little bit more ice cream and not have to worry about it.  I just want to generally feel better about myself.  My husband tells me all the time that I'm beautiful, but I kinda feel that he has to say it, you know?

rebelrower - those look like great workouts!  I just started using the EA Active, but these also look quick and simple to do.  How much weight would you suggest to start off with and how many sets?  what about crunches?  I see side and lower abs, or will these exercises work everything?

Hey Ladies!!

I'm so sorry!  I completely forgot to update!

1200 cal/day didn't go so well.  I was hungry all the time and I actually gained weight - so...back up to 151.  I found myself eating snacks so I wouldn't be hungry.

This past week I actually purchased EA Active for Wii.  I tried it out for the first time on Friday and it was amazing!  I burned 120 calories the first time and 160 calories the second time.  So I decided to use that everyday and eat 1300-1400 calories/day.  So still creating a deficit while working out at the same time!  I'm doing the 30 day challenge and I'm definitely enjoying it so far.

Surfer - just a quick mention I looked at your photos and you can tell there's a significant weight loss - you look really good!

I'll be better at posting more often!  Sorry I guess the weekend kinda got away from me Smile

cellophane_star & hotfuss - thanks for the gym idea!  however, i know that will be a waste of money for me - I will probably use it once or twice and then never go again (that's what i did with my last gym membership) and I can't really afford it right now...maybe it will be something to look into later though!  Thanks!

dkiesser - this link is great!  So many good ideas - I will definitely be checking these out.  Thanks so much!!

sarahbobgraham - this is not a bad idea, except for 2 problems...the last part of my trip is highway where cars are going 70+ mph and I actually never learned to ride a bike Embarassed...this is something that i will change for the summer though...one of my goals, but thank you though!

ily51 - i actually cooked all my meals on Sunday for the week and it worked out great!  I don't know why I haven't done it since...but you're right if I'm not spending time cooking I can come home go for a walk, come back and eat.  I will try for this weekend.  Thanks!! Smile

danaecbj...

Thank you for posting this question.  we have very similar stats, besides the age...

SW: 155

CW:  149

GW: between 130-135

Height: 5'4

Age: 25

I'm also sedentary I sit at my desk for 8 hrs a day and don't exercise when I get home.  I started to plateau around 149 for the past 3-4 weeks.  I decided to decrease my calorie intake to 1200, it's not going too badly, I honestly don't find myself to be terribly hungry.  I used to eat 1300 and started to find I wasn't losing any weight.

I only weigh myself once a week - I can't do it everyday because if I see any weight gain, I get really hard on myself.  I generally weigh myself Friday or Saturday morning.

Good Luck!

Pink - that is starting to make a lot of sense, because this past week I'm down 1/2 pound.

I think this weeek, I'm going to restrict my intake to 1200/day and see how that goes and then i will reevaluate at the end of the week.

Thank you guys for your help!  I really appreciate it.

This past weekend was great!  My DH and I bought a new bedroom furniture set!  It's being delivered tomorrow and I'm so excited =)

I hope everyone else had a great weekend!  Talk with you ladies soon!

Thanks Pink...I'm trying to eat more throughout the day and cycling my calories...I'm aiming for 1200 today, I ate 1350 yesterday...tomorrow will be around 1250.

It seems very odd that I would be losing on 1300, then my body stops & when I recalculate it says 1200 to lose.  However, other calorie calculators state the following:

From Nutrition.about.com - It says I should be taking in 1,495 calories/day and lose 1 pound/week

http://www.phord.com/cc/ - It says I should have 1411/day and lose .5 pounds/week

CC - 1200/day?  What I'm really confused about is how can 2 different people from the same website give 2 different numbers?

So...which one should I follow?  I'm going to try and cycle my calories and see if that works...if not I'll try upping my calories.  I guess I'm afraid I will gain weight and be back where I started.

Pink - it is harder to get back on the wagon, but being on the wagon has so many more positives then not being on it.  You should post a picture of this fabulous new haircut of yours!  Congrats on the new apt.  you sound so excited and just think the amount of exercise you'll be doing unpacking boxes and moving?  Good Luck!  Let us know how the move goes!

hey i'm not exact...but I'm pretty close:

Height:  5'4

Weight:  149.5 (and stuck that way for about a month now...)

Age: 25 (26 in September)

Goal:  130-135 (I will be happy at 135, but ideally want to be 130)

It's very hard dieting alone - maybe we can motivate each other to stay healthy and lose weight?!?

Thanks for the advice Blink!  I think I'm going to do a little bit of both.  Reduce my calorie intake, but switch it up a little bit during the day - eat more during the day and have a lighter dinner...but maybe still save some room for ice cream once in a while Wink Although I still can't eat that much in the morning, but try to have a larger lunch - maybe include a side salad with a sandwich.

I was also talking to my cousin about it - she lost a ton of weight recently, in a healthy way and has been able to keep it off.  She's also started running - like you blink.  She told me to increase my protein intake because apparently it takes more energy to burn protein then carbs.

Blink - good for you on running for 20 minutes on the treadmill!  That's certainly an accomplishment!  Maybe you can try mixing it up and run outside too - I know you said you wanted to wait, but if I had to stare at the same wall everytime, I would find it boring.  They also have a running game on the Wii Fit, if you have one.  When I played with the Wii Fit more, I did that one all the time...it's a lot of fun =)

How is your internship going surfer?  What is everyone else up to?

I'm getting really frustrated - I'm still stuck at 149.5.

I'm sticking to 1300 calories/day.  I work at a desk job and since I commute 1.5 hours to work each day I don't really have the energy to work out when I get home.  So I've only lost 5.5 pounds and already I hit a plateau?  Well that kinda sucks...

I don't want to join a gym - I tried that once and I never went so it was a waste of money.  It's also hard to work out when I get home because I get home between 7-7:30pm, I still have to cook dinner, eat, and get my things together for the following day.  I'm lucky if I get to bed before midnight.

And it's not like I eat unhealthy either.  I feel like I get a balanced diet.  My typical meals include:

Breakfast - Dannon Light 'N Fit nonfat yogurt with fresh fruit, coffee with skim milk and splenda (approx. 100 calories) I'm not very hungry in the morning, so I dont want to stuff myself.

Snack - celery, red peppers or baby carrots with 2 tbsp of hummus  (80 calories)

Lunch - whole wheat sandwhich bread with 2 oz of turkey or half and once slice of cheese.  I use real cheese, I can't stand low/nonfat cheese.  So I will only use one slice, .5 tbsp of light mayonnaise, and lettuce - (280 calories)

Snack - 1 apple or 1 cup of grapes (80 calories)

Dinner - meat, veggies, and some type of starch -  700 calories.

sometimes for a snack I will have a piece of chocolate.  This is what I normally eat during the week, on the weekend I don't watch as closely, but I'm also not scarfing down 2 pizza pies.

Normally I'm not that hungry throughout the day, so I eat less throughout the day and then have a bigger dinner.  Should I try to spread out my calories more evenly?  I also constantly drink water throughout the day.  Probably from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed, I drink 64 oz of water.

Do you guys have any suggestions about ways I could get more exercise?  I try to take the stairs whenever I can, I work on the 8th floor - So sometimes I will walk up 4 flights, I take the stairs up and down 3 flights in the parking garage.

The new CC calculator said I should only eat 1200/day, but I was losing on 1300 before - so what happened?

I'm asking you ladies because you all seem to have a great handle on your weight loss.  I'm very frustrated and I don't want to quit, I just really want to lose this weight, I feel disgusting Frown

No! I'm still here!

I only weight myself on Fridays.  On the weekends I tend not to eat as well and I use the week to burn off and eat right.  So I will know my weight in a couple of days =)

7 pounds is still great!  I've been at this for about 2 months now and I've only lost 6.5 pounds.  But you are losing weight in a healthy way and that's what matters.

Yay for the new apartment!  that's great that you can walk home from work.  I work about 60+ miles away from my apartment...that would be a very long walk for me =)

I'm doing good, enjoying the married life.  Since we didn't get a honeymoon we went away this past weekend to Hershey, PA.  Bought lots of chocolate, ate fried food at the park, but also did a lot of walking, but I don't think that made up for it =)

Yay!  I'm back down to 149.5 (now let's keep it that way!)

I wanted to share with you guys a realization I had yesterday.

My husband (hehe, saying "my husband" still sounds weird...) and I went to Outback steakhouse last night for dinner.  If I wasn't watching what I was eating - I would get the following:

  1. 1/2 portion of Aussie Cheese Fries - 1450 Calories
  2. Cheeseburger (with more fries) - 784 calories - and doesn't include the cheese
  3. side of fries (because apparently the appetizer wasn't enough) - 724 calories
  4. split - Chocolate thunder from down under - 610 calories
  5. oh and of course a diet coke - because I wanted to save on the calories LOL...

So that brings it to a grand total of.....::drum roll please::  3568 Calories!!!

When I look at this now and what my daily calorie intake is, that's over 2 days worth of calories

But here is what I got for dinner last night:

  1. Appetizer - side of broccoli without butter - 30 calories
  2. grilled chicken and veggies - 340 calories
  3. 1/4 of the honey wheat bread - 25 calories
  4. I did take a couple of pieces of the bloomin' onion my husband ordered, not sure how many calories that was...
  5. And instead of soda, I got water (3 glasses!)

So that was a grand total of a little over 400 calories with the onion...I know that seems low for dinner, but I did finish off some fries I had left over from a diner when I got home and I try to eat more during the day, so I don't eat so much at night, we didn't have dinner until 9pm.

Now...here is what my DH ate:

  1. 1/2 bloomin onion - 1155 calories
  2. Victoria Filet 7 oz - 490 calories (does not include horshradish sauce)
  3. sweet potato - 225 calories
  4. side vegetables - 69 calories
  5. Yeungling beer - 128 calories

His grand total was - 2067 Calories! and he complained later that his stomach was bothering him...well..gee...let me guess why your stomach was bothering you. could it be the day's worth of calories and the over 100 grams of fat you just ate?

If I would have ordered all that stuff...my body would hate me.  As I said, I had part of the onion, but I find it waayy to salty now.  Even his sweet potato was like dipped in butter, had brown sugar on it, and over it was butter sweetened with sugar.  I had a bite and my teeth were hurting.

Just wanted to share my revelation with you ladies.  I felt great after dinner, I had energy so I straightened things up around the apartment a little bit and then went to bed.  My DH went into like a food coma when we got home and it was so hard getting him out of bed so he could brush his teeth.

I really don't miss that type of food - I feel so much better for a longer period of time if I eat healthier, rather than that initial "high" I get if I eat crap and that horrible crash afterwards.  But you need to treat yourself every once in a while, just not 3500+ calorie worth Smile

Hope you ladies are doing well!  How is everyone doing with weight loss?

okay...so i stepped on the dreaded scale this morning...

keep in mind that it was the morning after I ate a 1/2 calzone and 1/2 portion of lasagna - probably not the best dinner choice, but tasted really good and I had portioned 800 calories for dinner.  But my guess is that I went over that 800 calorie mark.

So I came in at 152.  Kinda sucks that I'm getting higher into the 150s again - seeing 149 was really nice.  but today is a new day and I'm starting over!

where is Liz lately?
