I have the exact same stats! Well, I'm probably 145lbs... Anyway I also have the same goals (getting back down to 120-125lbs). I'm 18. If you want to be buddies feel free to message me :)
Young Calorie Counters anyone understand my dorm cafeteria struggle? Feb 20 2013

I understand completely! From the caf, I typically try to stick to the salad bar or make-your-own sandwich station. I don't touch any of their "mystery meat." As for room-food, as of right now, I have several protein bars, a little bit of kashi go lean cereal, some raw almonds, light string cheese, and greek yogurt. Oh and coffee and tea. I also often take a few pieces of fruit for my room from the caf when I leave. They aren't particularly strict about fruit coming out at my school since everyone is busy so I don't know if yours would be.

I also have a roommate who sometimes steals my food. I've confronted her about it though and asked her to ask before she takes something.

Young Calorie Counters Any Dancers? Feb 17 2013

I'm a dancer! I go to a pre professional boarding school for ballet, dancing about 4 hours a day. I've been counting calories for a while, but I have recently not been eating so well lately and need to get back on track. I'm 18 by the way :)

I've been in recovery and have eaten enough for awhile. I'm at a normal weight now so I don't think there's that much damage that has to be prepared. I've gone to my schools nutritionist and she has given me suggestions but I'm still doing it! I didn't think it was an emotional problem too because my life has pretty much been alright.

4 measly baby carrots literally contain your entire daily intake of vitamin A.

Thanks for the responses. What weight should I gain to, though? I feel like 120lbs or 125lbs is too much for a dancer and 2000 cals is a normal intake. I feel like I should know what to do since I've been here for so long but I really don't...

Wait did you mean 2500 cals because 3500 seems like too much...

And the binges are pretty bad. Each binge (not including the entire day's total) is probably 3000+ cals...

Weight Gain Gaining Weight TOO Fast? Aug 14 2012

Yes, I understand that some of it might be waterweight, but the scale keeps on going up and up and up (like this morning I was 115lbs) and it never seems to slow down! I can also feel and see my weight gain, although my mother and ballet instructor say they can't see much of a difference.

I just don't know what to do! It's really scaring me... :/

michaelhill24: Sorry if I sound like a total creeper for eavesdropping, but I've been reading these forums a lot (looking for inspiration to further up my calories) and I just wanted to give my input. My saturated fat limit for a calorie goal of 2500 is actually 28g (almost DOUBLE of what your intake is so far). And yours is probably higher (on a 3000 cal diet) because saturated fat should "supposedly" make up 10% of your total fat intake (and its OKAY if it goes over a wee bit while on a high calorie diet.)While I admit, saturated fat doesn't bother me as much, I can assure you, you have PLENTY of wiggle room left!

Everyone: Hi! This is my first time posting on this forum (after wanting to for quite some time) and you all are SO inspirational! I love the positive energy in this forum and everyone is so supportive! I'm 17 1/2 years old, 5'8.5", ~106-107 lbs and currently aiming for 120lbs. I am a ballet dancer that goes to a preprofessional boarding school, but I'm pretty much sedentary right now... hehe :P I haven't been able to reach the 2500 calorie mark these last couple days, but hopefully I will be able to tonight so I can (FINALLY) post my eats :)

Foods Hydration: Crystal light question Jul 25 2012

I agree with the fact that liquids are indeed liquids, but I think you have to factor in the caffeine/sodium amount in said beverage. Drinks with minuscule amounts of these would, in my opinion, count as one of your eight glasses a day.

However, with drinks like coffee, tea, and soda, because caffeine is a diuretic, it supposedly "dehydrates you". I don't necessarily think it dehydrates you, though. I just think it doesn't hydrate you. So, I guess it would reside in kind of a neutral territory, and that you should drink 8 glasses of water or non-caffeinated fluid ALONG with your caffeinated drinks.

Did that make any since? Haha Smile

Thank you everyone for the replies! I do realize it isn't the end of the world if I go over 2500 calories and it is something that I need to work on. I think ED is still there in telling me that "you CANNOT go over this amount of calories. Period." Very rapid weight gain is still very frightening and I am not used to eating so much during the day. I guess it'll just be something I have to get used to :)

Were you extra active this week? Even if you didn't necessarily exercise, did you happen to unconsciously move around more? If not then it is probably your metabolism speeding up, which is good! I would increase to 2500 if possible. Maybe add an extra couple tbs of a nut butter to your toast or oatmeal (or something of the like)? That shouldn't do too much damage to your wallet.

The human body is certainly crazy! Since I increased my calories to 2500 only recently, I can't really say that I've been in that situation yet. I'm actually forcing myself to stay away from the scales for at least a couple days :P (I'm WAY too obsessive :/)

Thank you SO much, andilikepeaches!! (And Ecxel and rice_paper_dolls for your advice!)

Your words were so inspiring and uplifting!

I think the most difficult thing for me about recovery is the haunting, stupid idea that "I don't NEED this" (because I'm not exercising enough to burn those 2500 calories off or on my death bed yet :/)

Although I did take a 45 min walk up and down my hill-y neighbor hood this morning, I won't exercise for the next week and I do need those calories anyway! I won't be able to improve my ballet technique this summer or be able to go back to my school in the fall for my senior year if I don't!

:)

I made it to 2000 today!! Kind of freaking out now but I'll give it a few days and then bump it up to 2500 ;)

Oh and I also had some of a vegetable stir fry (with LOADS of oil) that was NOT prepared by me. I feel so accomplished :)

Plus I'm fairly certain that I was at the time overestimating that calorie intake (because I had to eat from a caf food everyday and therefore had no way to measure or weigh it)...

Well I was slowly losing on that amount this year because I was dancing so much. Now that I'm pretty much sedentary, it's difficult to convince myself that I need that much. However if thats what you guys suggest (jumping straight up to 2500), I will try to do so :)
Young Calorie Counters goals for the summer? Jun 15 2012

Hmm lets see...

  • I would like my ballet technique to improve, but I won't be able to dance for 2 months so we'll see about that...
  • My goal by the end of the summer is to gain to 120lbs (12-13lbs to go! -> I do have a 2 week vacation coming up so that should help a lot ;) )
  • Read at least 5 good sized novels this summer. I've already read one and am 50 pages into another one but I've been slacking off these last couple of weeks :/
  • Just have fun, spend loads of time with family and friends, and just relax :)
