I usually eat like this:

Breakfast: SouthBeach Bar, Small Fruit, Tea

Lunch: Salad, Tuna (2oz), 1T homemade dressing, 100 cal yogurt, triscuits (7 reduced fat)

And that puts me around 600 calories (and full). I'm going for 1300-1500.
Weight Loss Need some help: College starts in the morning! What do I eat? Jan 10 2007

I would take my lunch if I were you. That's what I did in college. Not sure about the Newport thingy but Wheatberry is a type of bread, so I'd think it might be a sandwich. Salads are so easy. I have pre-washed lettuce in one container, chopped up veggies in another container, various cheeses, meats/beans, and dressings, so that I can easily throw together a nice salad every evening, then grab it in the morning. I also love triscuits, fruits, crudite, and yogurt.

Well, the most important things to know going into an interview are:

Yourself
The company
The position
Typical interview questions

I'd google "interview questions" and "behavioral interview questions" and see what you get. I'd outline the answers, so you don't sound like you're reciting something from memory, but you still have a general idea of what to say.

Good luck!!!

Haha! I tried those once, too! I was on SB for a few months, and lost weight, but steered clear of most of their foods. Those are so full of sodium, I was bloated the rest of the day! Plus, with all that meat and fat and fiber sitting in my stomach without veggies, I felt yucky.

Their cheese that looks like laughing cow cheese is more expensive, and it's the same thing as laughing cow cheese!

Their frozen meals are just some kind of meat and frozen veggies. I can make it myself with less sodium and less preservatives. (my Atkins aunt loves them though).

Their cookies were so hard I would put some ff/sf whipped cream on top and zap them in the microwave for about 15 seconds to make them palatable.

Things I did like: The whole grain crunch cereal. Expensive, but yummy. The 100 cal packs of wheat crackers. Like wheat thins, but actually 100% whole grain. The snack, breakfast, and meal replacement bars. I do like them since they have whole grain in them and plenty of protein to keep you going.

I'd marinate in fat free italian dressing, and then grill the shrimp, along with yellow squash, zucchinni, mushrooms, and red onion slices that have been brushed with ff italian dressing as well.

While I'm doing that, I would toss some brown rice in the rice cooker with low fat/low sodium chicken broth, and then I would serve the shrimp/veggie mix over a pillow of brown rice.

And now I'm going to go eat something because writing that made me hungry!

I found Hershey's dark chocolate bars in 100 calorie servings. They are individually packaged, and they made them long so that they look like a lot of chocolate. That's what I use when I need a chocolate fix!

Hahah, last time around with the South Beach, I used to eat frozen sugar free/fat free whipped cream like it was ice cream! Too funny! My boyfriend looked at me really funny, then found me some sugar free/fat free ice cream.

Foods Foods high in protein? Jan 09 2007

Everyone apparently doesn't know that carbs, proteins, and fats are all meant to be eaten in balance, and are all important parts of our diets. Protein and fiber both help keep you full, so maybe that's what you mean.

Easy foods for college students to take on the go?
String cheese (low fat)
Nuts (measure them into snack bags for portion control)
Turkey or Soy Jerky (go low sodium)
Fruits (they come in their own wrappers)
Crudite (Raw cut up veggies, put em in a snack bag)
Single Serve tubs of PB with celery
Laughing Cow Cheese (light) with celery

What really seems to be hurting the calorie/fat content is that for each serving, you're getting a half a pound of beef. Maybe if you reduced the amount of beef and instead bulked up with lots of veggies. Zucchinni and yellow squash take on the flavors of whatever you cook them with, so they might be good add-ins.

You might want to switch to brown rice, as it hasn't been stripped of nutrients the way that white rice has.

And I agree with drea, using a little butter a little oil and a lot of pam is helpful. With the 4 serving sizes, each person is getting about 2 T of butter with this recipe. That's tasty and all, but your heart will thank you if you reduce the amount of butter, add in a little olive oil, and possibly use some "butter flakes", the low cal, low fat flakes that taste like butter.

I revamped a little, using less (and leaner) beef, and much less butter. It doesn't take much to carmelize onions, definitely not 1/4 lb. I also added veggies, increased the number of servings to 6, then accounted for that by adding in another cup of brown rice.

i know what you mean. this weekend, my bf bought me ice cream, and i promised myself 1/2 cup, but the ended up eating about 1-1/2 cups! AAAH!

here are things i try to do: savor the food. hold it in my mouth, and really enjoy the flavor of the food. eat that first little bit slowly, in tiny bites. then, once i have finished my treat, i do something different to keep my mind off of it.

the bf and i are huge foodies (that's why i'm here, i'm literally a HUGE foodie) so we love gadgets!

things i couldn't live without:

our knife set, hard annonized aluminum cookware, silicone bakeware, wood and silicone utensils, food processor, whisks, silpat baking liner, pyrex bowls, read-from-above measuring cups (for liquids), dry measuring cups, rubbermaid storage things (i'm the make ahead queen), rice cooker, slow cooker, stovetop cast iron grill, broiler pan, roasting pan, salad spinner, TONGS (couldn't live a day without tongs), wine savers (the little corker thingies with the suction pump to keep wine fresh -- no point in wasting wine just because i can't drink a whole bottle at once!), and the bf is in love with the mandolin slicer.

our next acqusition: a kitchenaid. you'd think he was talking about cars when he starts in on the specs of the one he has his eye on.

alton brown is my idol. he has a whole book about gadgets.

For dinner parties, I scope the goop out of cherry or grape tomatos and then fill with low fat cottage cheese! Yum! (Can also pack in lunches as a side or a snack! Caloric content varies on how many tomatos you fill and how much cottage cheese you use.

The noodles are bad enough alone, but then you add the heart attack by mixing in the packet. If I were you, I'd splurge on a bag of whole grain pasta (5lbs = $3 @ Sam's Club -- if you don't have a membership, find someone who does), and some low sodium, low fat broth. Way healthier, and just as cheap.

But, if you haven't noticed (which is tough around here) weigh loss is calories in and calories out, no matter how you get those calories. Not healthy, but if you take in less than you burn, you lose weight.

Cook and drain thoroughly. I usually press mine in paper towels or a towel to remove excess water. Here's a vegan recipe, which is good. I'll post the recipe and then link it back here. If you search for "Almost Pasta Primavera" on google, you'll get a lot of recipes with cheese sauces as well.

Spaghetti Squash Primavera

Serves: 2

1 spaghetti squash
1 t. crushed garlic
1/2 Spanish onion, diced
1 small zucchini, diced
1 green or red pepper, diced
1/2 package sliced mushrooms
1 can diced tomatoes (Italian herb, if available)
Oregano
Hot pepper flakes
Salt & pepper
Pinch of sugar (1/2 t.)

Squash: Using sharp knife, split squash in half lengthwise and remove seeds.  Microwave skin-side down at High power for 12-16 minutes (depending on your microwave), rotating the pieces halfway through.

Test with point of small knife to see if it is tender; if not, nuke it for another few minutes.

Sauce: In non-stick pan, sauté garlic and onions until they release their fragrance.

Add the remainder of the veggies and sauté for about 5 minutes at medium heat till they start to release their juices. The onions should not get brown. Now, add the tomatoes and stir. Simmer at low-to medium heat till the excess liquid is evaporated.

While the sauce is reducing, you can play with the seasonings until you get something you like.

Assembly:
Using oven mitts, remove squash from microwave and place on large platter. Keep the mitts on while you take a large fork and flake the squash into pasta-like strands. Use a lengthwise motion - if you've never seen this before, you'll be amazed how pasta-like this becomes! Divide spaghetti squash into two serving bowls, top with sauce, and enjoy

Once you get away from the high fat/high salt/high sugar snacks for a while, your tastebuds will adjust and you'll be okay with healthier stuff. Give it a shot. Now I love the sweet crunchiness of baby carrots.
Motivation Hard core TRUTHFUL motivation for 2007 Jan 04 2007
16:02 (UTC)
11
I am motivated because:

I don't want to eat myself to death, and that's basically what I'm doing.

I want to be able to have children one day, and I want them to be healthy and happy. I want to be around for them.

I am tired and have no energy, and I know that a great deal of that has to do with the fact that I'm carrying around 100 extra pounds all day.

I want to be the most beautiful woman in the room, not just in my boyfriend's eyes.

I read that beautiful people move further in their careers than ugly people, and I'm too amazing to lose out on any chances because I like french fries and milkshakes a bit too much.

Hahah, when I was a vegetarian I would crave bacon cheese burgers. So I would microwave a vegan Boca burger, broil thin strips of tofu seasoned with red pepper flakes, use veganaise, soy cheese, lettuce and tomatos. I used whole wheat english muffins for the bun since they are heartier and better for you than white hamburger buns. Good eats, really....
