I can't even believe some of you people.

What if you were hit by a bus and no longer had your health? Would you want your SO to throw you in a home and leave you? What kind of marriage is it when you leave someone the second you have to do for them? Ridiculous!

Oh wow, sorry guys, I forgot about this thread! I actually went to school with Brandy but haven't seen her in years! I just thought that was funny.

I have had it for 13 years, probably longer. My periods were never regular, and they are so painful I pass out sometimes. I've always been fat, since I was 8. I gained a TON of weight and then just kept gaining. I never could understand why I was so fat when I ate healthy and stayed active. I thought I had PCOS around 3-4 years ago, and went to the doc several times. One doc came close to diagnosing then sent me to another doc. He didn't diagnose. My bloodwork at the time was done while I was following a very low carb diet - I think that threw it off.

This spring I had an 8 cm cyst burst. I went to my doc, he sent me for an ultrasound then referred me to another doc. That gyno diagnosed me, put me on the pill and asked if I'd like to see a nutritionist. No other treatment. I finally got so fed up I made an appointment with an endocrinologist. We haven't started treatment - he wants baseline bloodwork so I can get a "real" diagnosis. So now I am off the pill and eating a serving of bad carbs a day to get my hormones good and out of whack for the blood test. I feel like ****, but I need a "real" diagnosis so that I can get treatment. I'm also getting a sleep study done. I am exhausted all the time, even though I eat right, exercise, don't drink caffine after noon, and have a sleep schedule set up.

I don't have the hair growth or thinning, but I do have dark patches of skin between my legs, skin tags, acne, irregular periods, obesity (I'm guessing b/c of IR), fatigue, and most likely infertility (I have been off birth control and still sexually active for about 2 years now and no kids...).... does anyone here use the forum soulcysters.org? I go there but there aren't as many users. Mostly I go for info.

Has anyone created a group here for pcos?

The Lounge "More to Love" reality show Aug 05 2009

I think with a show named "More to Love" there would be some pretty hefty girls. I don't get the big deal if they are larger than size 14.

Positives of the show:

  • The girls are all beautiful. Not a single one is ugly. So maybe they are big, but at least it shows big girls can be beautiful.
  • The girls have great styles. It shows that big girls can have a sense of style even though they are buying from the big girl store. As a big woman, I'm always afraid I'll wear the same exact outfit as the other big girls at work. It's happened. Big meeting with the boss, walk in, I'm wearing the same suit as my coworker. We looked like twins. And most big girl clothes aren't designed to show off shape - I feel a lot of times I'm in a big bag.
  • The girls have different shapes. Shape makes such a big difference. Women can get away with having 15 extra pounds if they are shaped right! But if it's a 15 pound beer belly, then it's far less attractive. So as I watch the show, I'm glad to see hour glasses, hippy girls, girls with big bajongas, girls that are big all over.

Negatives:

  • The girls act like they could never get a date because they are big. I've been big all my life and have never lacked love. Shoot, at one of my biggest points, I was dating three guys at once (casually - they all knew, don't think I'm some kind of ho-bag). And I was a size 18/20 at that point! Three guys! And only one of them was pudgy (he was also attractive and an engineer). The other two were tall dark and handsome! It's a personality problem.  You seem desperate, it'll drive off the men faster than a hairy facial mole.
  • It's all about their size. Constantly. OMG, I have to wear a swim suit. I'm so glad I can eat this steak. I've never been on a jet because I'm fat (uhhh, I know a lot of skinny girls who haven't ever been on a jet...). Put their weight on the screen. Have the guy talk about their "banging bodies" and how they are "vuluptuous". LOL.
  • The guy.... just a creepster. Seemed pretty normal at first, but he's all about giving girls that creepy stare until they kiss him. Gross. I can't even think about the creepiness without getting the shivers. If any guy looked at me like that, or used his stupid lines, I'd laugh at him! But these girls are so desperate they suck his face!!! And couldn't they have found a muscle bound hottie? Come on.... they exist. I know because they were constantly chasing after me in secret through high school. I can't even tell you how many came out of the woodworks after H.S. graduation and said they wanted it. Too bad, boys!
  • If it's really a show about women loving their bodies, and breaking out of that shell, shouldn't there be women of all shapes and sizes, from size 2-32 on the show? I mean, yeah the other shows all have waifs, but that doesn't mean this all had to have porkers. Can't we get some variety? Then put a blind man on there. So he can't tell their weights and have at it!!!!
  • I've got a metabolic disorder. I have counted calories or been on one kind of "diet" plan since I was 16. I exercise every day. But I'm morbidly obese. Can't we at least see these girls eating their veggies? Can't we at least see them doing some physical activity? It's like they just lounge about eating appetizers all day! What is that about? I guess I realize a lot of fat people are just fat because they don't exercise enough and eat poorly, but still.... even when I'm not being super careful what I eat, I crave veggies. It's not just pizza and fries on my cheat days!!!!
  • They all act like this will be their one and only chance to find love. I realize all reality dating shows do this, but it's pretty sad. "I got along without ya, before I met ya...I'm gonna get along without ya now!"

You'll just gain back weight once you eat after your fast. Just eat sensibly and you shouldn't have a problem losing weight.

Try to eat lots of veggies and fruits - that's the most important starting point. Then incorporate lean proteins and good fats and whole grains.

A kid from my brother's class has schizophrenia. They had diagnosed him when he went to college, and one night moved his furniture to the football field, lit it, and danced around it naked, covered in his own feces. They medicated him and things were going well. He was doing really well in school, was fitting social norms, etc.

Then he stopped taking his meds. This summer he beat his mom and raped her.

He beat her so bad they couldn't find her left eyeball.

She lived.

When the cops went to the house, he was sitting there, comatose, covered in blood.  They asked him who he was and he said "Adolf Hitler."

When they got him to jail, he was interviewed by psychologists and he said that he said he was Hitler, asked to be addressed as Adolf, and did what he had done on the orders of the devil.

I feel so bad for him, and his mother. I think that when he gets medicated, the knowledge of what he caused will cause him to go truly mad.

I'm not sure what the most humane thing in this situation is. It makes me sad. It hurts my heart. But what really is a good solution? Punishment is not a good option - he had no idea what he was doing. Rehabilitation is going to be hard, especially once he's rehabilitated and finds out what he did. I think it serves as a constant reminder that life sucks and is complex.

I eat things as close to nature as possible.

Big bowl of raw greens > cooked greens
Oats > oat meal
Chicken breast >  Chicken "nugget"
Potato > Fries
Avocado > Avocado oil
Apple > Apple sauce
Orange > Orange Juice
Raw veggies > steamed veggies > sauteed veggies > roasted veggies > braised veggies

I don't get crazy about it. I'm definitely not a vegan or vegetarian. I just make the best choices I can in a given situation.

Yeah. I like TrueBlood because at least once an episode each one of these things happen:

- I say, "Now that was a witty pun."

- I say "WTF!"

- I roll my eyes

- I think "I could never watch this with my mother."

My aunt has Type II Diabetis and she went on a low carb (I know, not the same as you, but it's anecdotal), and they ended up cutting back her medicine and everything.

I'm 95% certain I have IR (I see a specialist Wednesday!!!) and so I've been following a lower carb diet - I eat a whole grain hot cereal in the morning with an egg, a fruit or veggie with a cheese stick or dip for a snack, a big bowl of greens with a lean protein and a light dressing for lunch, another snack as listed above, and then my dinner is usually a lean protein with a bunch of veggies and about 3-4 times a week a starchy something - brown rice, peas, sweet potato, whole wheat bread, beans. I've not been having much luck in the weight loss category. In fact, for two years I've been struggling to even maintain. I'm hoping my doctor can provide answers. BUT, I feel better when I eat this way. I had some honey whole wheat bread and popcorn for lunch one day and I was starving, emotional, and had a huge headache the rest of the day. It was just too much carb for me. If I eat sugars now I notice I get a buzz and then feel tired and want to eat more carbs.

Which probably both come from planned parenthood.

LOL - but she's doing the world a favor, right, by being protected so she can't have kids when she's obviously so unfit.

*eye roll*

My Mom got knocked up at 17 and had me. We lived in a trailer the first six years of my life. My life has been hard, and we went through rough times, but I'm better for it. My Mom loves me and did what she could (teaching me to read at age 3, while she herself had dyslexia) to make sure I would have a better life than her.

I'm so glad I don't know everything - it must truly be a burden.

No doubt my incredibly wealthy parents did an awful job with me.. I'm not saying people have to make a million $ a year to be parents.. I'm just saying they should bring in an income of at least $30,000 between the two.. honestly, you NEED that much to live including housing, food, clothing, doctors, insurance, whatever.. it's just necessary.  I know people who make less than $30,000 and have a child and they are on every program the government has (WIC, food stamps, etc.) and it's just unfortunate that they can't raise their child without the government's help in EVERY aspect of their lives!

Okay, I'm a little offended by this. So, by your standards, I shouldn't have been allowed to keep my child. My husband and I currently make less than $30,000 a year and have recently started to receive food stamps. But we are both attending college to further our education, and are smarter and better parents than most of the people out there. We're EXCELLENT parents!!

Finding a job now-a-days is hard enough as it is. Try finding one while raising a 4 year old, and going to school. There are no jobs out there that are going to accommodate your schedule. So, we scrap by until we graduate and start our careers.

I don't think income alone is a good way to determine who and who should not be allowed to have children.

I'll sound like a socialist and not care. I think that people should make a minimum salary every year. It should be government mandated. Any gap between what you earn and that minimum should be paid to the individual. The minimum would be set at a LIVING WAGE not the minimum wage, based on the area's cost of living. The government was going to do this in the 60s and the reason it didn't pass was because no one could decide what level to set it at. This of course, accounts for thos who work or are in school or are seeking employment (actually seeking employment).

... "Make yourself at home! There is food in the kitchen!"...

when I say stuff like that, I really mean, do what you want to.  For example, if they want to take off their shoes they can...but don't have to...they don't need permision to go to the bathroom or to grab a drink of water(I will show them where stuff is if they aren't familiar with my house) etc.

That's fine. I'm never shown even where the kitchen is.... it's an annoyance. I usually just take food and drink (via my reusable bottle) wherever I go.

I agree with HK. I don't expect any guests to lift a finger in my home.

In fact, I go so far as to make sure they have food for lunches and breakfasts if I won't be there, and plenty of options for entertainment and beverage choices.

Then again, it always annoys me when I go to people's places to stay and they say things like "Make yourself at home! There is food in the kitchen!" - Gee, thanks. I don't even know where your forks are, and now I have to fend for myself? If I do something like that, (like the lunch/brekkie thing) I show them exactly where everything is they will need.
