Are you craving peanut butter, or is it the fat content? Try mixing some cottage cheese in with your peanut butter. It will increase the protein content which will help keep you satisfied. |

It would be a waste not to eat them. I wouldn't be eating them by the handful as a snack as they aren't very filling, but they would probably be good in salads. |

I don't have any ED recovery advice for you, but gastroparesis is likely when you are trying to refeed. Fortunately, the gastroparesis works itself out once you have gained back to a healthy weight for your body. Good luck in your recovery. You've taken a huge first step. |

You are probably craving the sugar. Try upping your protein intake. Lately, I've been eating cottage cheese with almond butter and jam. It's really good and sweet, but it will help to stabilize your blood sugar better because of the higher protein content. |

Hunger is good, it's a sign your metabolism is working. Just be sure to feed your body with nutritious food with a good balance of protein, fat and fiber to stay satisfied. |

| Foods | Clif Builder Protein Bars? | Feb 07 2012 14:30 (UTC) |

Clif Builder bars taste gross. The peanut butter one is so chalky. *makes yucky face* I can tolerate the chocolate chip flavour of the original Clif bar, but that's about it. I much prefer Luna protein bars if I need a snack while I'm out and about. Definitely not an every day thing and even then, I limit it to one per day (it gets expensive!). |

Very busy day today. Greek yogurt, banana, cinnamon raisin bagel and coffee Another banana! Chicken noodle soup (this cold needs to go away), egg and cheese on an English muffin, chocolate pudding cup More Greek yogurt with frozen mango chunks Tequila (sipping) Will most likely have peanut butter and jam toast with strawberry cottage cheese before bed. |

^^ second this. There is a reason why you are having cravings. Your body is trying to tell you that it is starving and that is why you are getting strong urges to seek out food. It's a human survival mechanism. Feed your body and those urges will calm down over time. Very scary, I know, but your body will continue to nag at you until you finally give it what its asking for and needs. Good luck with your recovery. |

| Weight Gain | Not Hungry, but Still Eating? And other questions.... | Dec 31 2011 18:30 (UTC) |

Let the reactive eating happen. It's the only way your body can recover from the inside from all the damage the eating disorder may have (or already) caused. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis earlier this year, and all I can do is reactive eat. My hunger signals are so out of whack. If I followed by feeling "hungry", I probably would almost never eat. There is a reason for reactive eating. Your body makes you seek out food because it is trying to tell you that it's hungry. When you feel like eating, eat. I felt like a crazy woman before my diagnosis (though I don't have an eating disorder) because I couldn't stop thinking about food but I wasn't physically hungry. Once your body isn't being starved, the feelings of wanting to eat all the time will calm down, I promise. The more you ignore it now, the worse it will be and it will lead to binges (happened to me despite no hunger and it left me sick for days and days). Hope you are doing better. |

Don't lie down, as tempting as it may be. It will make the acid worse (I suffer from GERD). Sit up, prop yourself up with a pillow, and get a hot water bottle for your tummy. All you can do is wait it out. Hope you are feeling better. |

Let your body rest and recover from the cold. Even when you start to feel better and think you can return to regular exercise, take it easy. Missing a few workouts will not ruin what you have already accomplished, it's about what you do in the long run. Get some fresh air and maybe a short walk if you are feeling OK. Jumping back into high impact exercise too soon will set you back even more days. |

Don't forget that with starvation, your internal organs and bones get eaten away. That is weight lost too. You might gain a few pounds over the course of several weeks until your body adjusts, but once your body trusts that you are feeding it enough, it won't plateau anymore, assuming that you're not trying to force your body to a weight it doesn't want to be at. |

You can't cut grains out completely from your diet. You need the vitamins, especially the B-vitamins that are in grains. Please don't take for granted the fact that you can eat whole grain foods. They are nutritious and delicious. If going natural is a concern for you, I would suggest looking into grains like quinoa, which is not only very tasty, but rich in nutrients. I get terrible GP flares from eating whole grains and have had to switch back to white. It sounds like your diet is too restrictive. You shouldn't be feeling empty at the end of the day. While eating lots of fruits and veggies is good for you, that shouldn't be all that you are eating. Your body needs protein and healthy fats too. On my good days when I'm not sick to my stomach, I try to get more protein and liquid fats in. Also, by being too restrictive, you are essentially teaching your body to burn less and less, which will cause your metabolism to slow down drastically. This is a lifestyle, and if you cannot imagine going through the rest of your life eating this way, then you have to make changes. Bingeing and constantly thinking about food is your body's natural reaction to you purposely underfeeding it. It's scary to increase your intake or eat things that are processed or that have too many carbs. Whatever the reasoning, you have to eat the things your body is craving and give it time to get the hunger signals and metabolism working normally again. I have days of reactive eating if I have been ill all week with insufficient intake. At first it was very scary, but the reactive eating DOES calm down, I promise. Take good care of yourself! |

Eating before bed will not make you fat. I often have a snack before bed. Last night after I went to bed, I was hungry and could not sleep. Woke up and had pretty much a full meal (half turkey sandwich, soup, a few pretzel braids AND dessert, because I was having cravings), then went to bed about 1.5 hours later. I was legitimately hungry. If you struggle with acid reflux though, you may want to stay sitting up for an hour or so after eating (this is something I struggle with if I'm not careful). |

Sorry you are feeling this way. The holidays revolve so much around food, which is not a bad thing. Can you imagine having to go through life without eating some seriously delicious things? Life is too short to deprive yourself all the time, or feel guilty about it. Easier said than done, I know, and it will take time. *hugs* Feel free to message me if you need support or just an open ear to listen. |

It is because you aren't eating enough. Your body is very smart that way. If my GP flares during the week and I'm only able to tolerate liquids, I get the same way after I start to feel better. It's not binge eating. Your body is reacting to the fact that you probably aren't feeding it enough. If you ignore it, the cycle just repeats and it is not fun. Feed your body and in time, the reactive eating will calm down. |

Lots of Greek yogurt, banana and toast. Just the fact that I have time for more than one cup of coffee in the morning on the weekends makes everything that much better.
