| Weight Loss | No more daily weigh-ins...tired of the let-down!! | May 15 2013 17:53 (UTC) |

I lost probably close to 40 pounds without ever stepping on the scale until I started to maintain my weight (which is why I don't know how much I lost for sure). I do know I went from a size 14 to size 6. I wanted to avoid the roller coaster of constantly going up and down in weight. Throw away the scale, keep on with your program. Go on how your clothes fit, blood pressure, 1AC and all those measures instead! |

| Weight Loss | The best way to get a bikini body... | May 11 2013 13:14 (UTC) |

I bought a bikini for the first time ever earlier this year. My problem area is really my legs, so bikini or tank, they are going to be hanging out there just the same. Figure my options 1) never wear anything resembling a swimsuit, 2) Victorian bathing outfit or 3) bikini or tank. At least the bikini might draw some attention up from my legs! |

I agree with the other posters, try to make healthy lifestyle changes and expect to lose weight gradually and keep it off. It won't all happen at once, so don't panic after your first month.
As an aside, I have a friend with PCOS who is also probably classed as morbidly obese. She has two children both conceived after age 35 and only had minor complications during pregnancy. |

I agree, love them! Reeses Big Cup is even better. Had one of those on the way back home from a hike a few weeks ago. Great treat and it was a nice pick-me-up as I was pretty tired (since then I've been careful to eat more carbs when hiking- low carb snack + hiking= exhausted me). Gave them out at Halloween this year and was quite proud of myself for not having a single one for myself. My favorite candy! |

Agree with the others, stock his fridge and freezer with your food. That's what I've done and it is working well. I'm going to be over at my BF's tonight and we will be cooking entirely different things for dinner (I'm vegetarian, he's not). If you tend to go out to eat, decide on some restaurants you like and check their menus and nutrition information out online before you go. |

I gained over 4 pounds in two days last week, ate over 1600 calories one day and was up 2 pounds the next day. Ate under 1400 calories that day and up another 2+ pounds the next day. I've stayed under 1600 since then and am still up the 4 pounds. Guessing the lighter weight was some sort of freak reading and I guess this is what I actually weigh. |

| Maintaining | Anyone feeling a bit anxious after reaching goal? | Jan 30 2013 03:34 (UTC) |

I'm very much in the same boat, even the same height as you. Everyone is telling me I need to stop losing weight and I have been thinking I should transition to maintaining. I have no idea what I weigh as I didn't weigh myself when I started dieting. I'm a bit scared to weigh myself now as I'm sure I won't be happy with the number no matter what it says. I am very worried about keeping the weight off. I've lost weight 2 other times over the last 6 years, though never down this low, and have quickly reverted to bad eating habits. I really think the key for me to maintain will be to continue to log everything I eat and to eat around a set calorie goal. Right now I'm not sure what the goal should be, still trying to get mentally to a place where I can get on the scale. |

| Weight Loss | What are the most ridiculous things you've heard about weight loss? | Jan 19 2013 16:58 (UTC) |

THIS is my big pet peeve. Sometimes I don't get home until after 9 PM due to riding after work. So, I eat then. I've eaten as late as 10:30 PM. Somehow, I've still managed to lose weight. And no, I don't want to eat a few protein bars while driving to the barn and at 6 PM and call that "dinner", I'd prefer to eat actual food later in the evening. Also, you have to eat food that "activate" your fat burners to lose weight. What?!?! |

I don't weigh myself period. I knew I had gained way too much weight and really couldn't face the number when I started and I haven't gotten on a scale since. I got entirely on how my clothes fit and I can now certainly see the changes. Personally I think weighing yourself every day just sets you up for frustration and disappointment. I read one time to weigh daily if you are trying to maintain and weekly if you are trying to lose. Still, my number one piece of advice would be to hide the scale for AT LEAST a month after you start a diet. You didn't gain the weight in a month so you won't lose it in that time either. Also, don't think of it as a diet, think of it as a lifestyle change for the better. Don't obsess about your diet and exercise plan, find other things in your life to keep you occupied as well and just give it time. |

I've lost from a around a size 14 pants to a size 6 to 8 pants with my only exercise being riding and grooming my horse. Between commuting and trying to ride 4+ days a week and hating going to the gym, I just have't been able to make it. I've been dieting seriously since March and am dilligent about writing down EVERYTHING I eat and not eating crap I don't really want/need (including during the holidays). I know I need to get to the gym and that is a goal for this year. I've started working out a little bit with light weights at home. Baby steps... |

Yes, I have definitely struggled with the whole "it's not fair, I want to eat whatever" thing as well. I gave in to this two years ago and ballooned up in weight. I've managed to get my weight back down and am really working on totally changing my thinking. I do love eating out for breakfast occasionally but haven't done that since I restarted my diet. I was just thinking a couple of weeks ago, who are these normal weight people who get to eat at IHOP and how do they do it and why can't I? I seem to really have an all or nothing problem, I can either watch everything and tightly control what I eat or just eat whatever I want, a middle ground doesn't seem to exist for me. |

This time last year I was wearing a size 14 pants, knew I needed to get back on a diet and was eating crap even though I knew I shouldn't. Now... I'm at what is probably my lowest adult weight. I can fit into the dress I wore to prom my senior year in high school. None of my pants fit, so I had to buy some new pants... size 8 in trousers and size 30 in jeans. I know I need to get back to working out with weights and I've been starting slowly, trying to fit in a little at home each day. I've been riding a lot more (though not the last few weeks) and my legs have gotten a lot stronger. I haven't stepped on a scale and known what it said in over 5 years, so I only know how my clothes fit and how I look when I see myself in the mirror. My goals for 2013 are to try and lose a bit more weight but mainly focus on eating correctly and really try hard to tone up. My other goal is to wear a bikini for the first time ever! No idea where I would wear one but if I think I can pull it off I'll find somewhere. |

Go to Figleaves.com, my favorite source for harder to find sizes. I did a quick search on the main site in your size and you have a bunch of options in the $30-40 range. Not sure what your hoped for budget is. You can return anything that doesn't fit, I've had to do that several times when shopping the big sales. Just did another quick search for you (guess who has recently had the same issue herself...) For you, go to to herroom.com A bunch of sports bras but a some other options under $20! (They were a lot more expensive than figleaves in my size). |

Also, if you are really serious about joining the Marines, have you talked to a recruiter yet? I think they have special conditioning platoons for people who want to enlist but don't meet the physical requirements yet. |

Quick Green Chile Soup-Stew 01-FEB-04 48- from Vegetarian Times 1. Spray a large soup pot with nonstick cooking spray. Put beans, tomatoes and all liquid into pot, and heat over medium-high heat, stirring often. 2. When heated through, reduce heat to medium-low, and stir in enchilada sauce and pumpkin. Heat again, stir in salt and pepper and remove from heat. Ladle into large soup bowls, and garnish as desired. Variation: Omit pumpkin, using 1 large onion, diced, instead. Heat 1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil in a large soup pot over medium-high heat, and when onion has softened, add 3 cloves garlic, chopped, and sauté for 2 minutes more. Drain the liquid from the tomatoes and the beans over the onions. When the liquid comes to a boil, add 1/4 pound fresh green beans, stemmed and sliced crosswise in 1/4-inch wide lengths, as well as 1 large yam or sweet potato, peeled and diced into 1/3-inch cubes. You may also use or substitute several small scrubbed but unpeeled, diced Yukon Gold potatoes. Reduce heat to low, and cook, partially covered, for 10 to 12 minutes, or until potatoes and green beans are tender. Add all canned beans, tomatoes, and green enchilada chile sauce. Heat through, and serve. PER Serving: 310 CAL; 16 G PROT; 8 G TOTAL FAT (3 SAT. FAT); 47 G CARB.; 20 MG CHOL; 720 MG SOD.; 14 G FIBER; 8 G SUGARS |
