I recently started on a medically monitored diet where I am supposed to eat between 800 to 1000 Calories a day, 40 to 90 grams of protein and 120 to 150 Carbs a day. My problem is that I keep meeting my protein goals and being under on the other two. I have only been on the diet for four days and it's already happened twice! I don't want to go talk to the doctor again yet, but I really don't know what to do!
remember that fruits and veggies are low in cals. and have carbs in them, if your low on calories on 800-1000 you need to eat some more carbs potatos, whole grain pasta, or bronw rice, granola, these are all calorie dence and carb dence. That being said I do not understand these medically monitered diets where people are meant to eat far under a healthy caloric intake. I would be sure you are taking enough suplemental vitamins so that your body does not suffer. Sarah

F 29 5'6" 213. During my work out today I did 30 min of cardio on the elliptical, 30 min with my heart rate between 145-155 and a 5 min cool down, the machine told me I burned 330cals. when I input 30min moderate effort in the data base I get 484 cal burn, I am wondering which is more accurate? Also with weight lifting I did 55 min with low weights and 5 min rotations, full body light to moderate effort, I was sweating but not poring sweat, I get a burn from CC of 290. I am just curious what everyone thinks as far as accuracy, and if there are any better or more accurate site, or if I am wrong and CC is right. That would be great! I posted this in fitness but didn't get a responce. Sarah
The machine is most likely calculating the 330 calories based on the "average" weight of 150lbs. The calculator at Calorie Count uses the weight you have logged most recently in its calculations.
What you actually burned will fall in the middle somewhere.
This is a preety good machiene, it asks for age and weight and has a decentheart rate monniter (as long as you wipe the sweat off your hands) I am going to get a personal heart monitor I think it will be more accurate. Thanks Sarah |

My husband (33) and I (25) have been talking about having kids... He always said if he didn't have a child by the time he was 35, he probably didn't want to have any at all. We've been married since 3/14/08, and together since summer of 2005.
There are just a lot of things going on in our lives right now that all point to "no baby". I'm way too fat right now to have a healthy pregnancy...
Not to mention the issues with my family and brother... But the main reason is because of my weight. I'm losing it, it's just taking a while. I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race, because I would always go very head-strong at "dieting" but would never last. So, now, I'm trying to be healthy overall... eat well, exercise, etc.
So, I guess what I'm basically rambling about is the fact I have a lot of weight to lose before we try for a baby.
It's not possible to lose weight during a pregnancy is it?
visit this site, I found a lot of support here when my husband and I were having fertility issues, tryingtoconceive.com. Also talk to your husband about it, and it dosent hurt to see a dr. Sarah |

from what i understand with weights it's high weight to build mussel, low weight to burn fat, or at least that's how the trainer explained it to me 3.5 years ago (but who knows how much that has changed).
This is totally untrue. There is some good info. on the Fitness about that.
As far as the calorie burn. I would take what the elliptical is telling you. A lot of people say that the elliptical over estimates how many calories you burn. But if you enter your weight and age and monitor your HR, then what the machine says should be fairly accurate. I've worn a HR monitor while on two different elliptical machines and the monitor and the machine were within 20 calories of each other.
I guess with training it's a lot like TV, you cant always believe what you here or see. I am doing some research on this right now. I am working on building musel now and most of what I find on women says it is really hard to do, but so is weight loss, and here I am succeeding! I would like to be toned and strong but still feminine. Sarah |

Since you gave your heart rate, I can tell you are working pretty hard (around 80% of max if your max heart rate is close to the equation-predicted value of 191). I know approx. how much I burn at 80%, and so does my wife. So, we each took our values, compensated for the difference between our weights and yours etc.
We both predicted (for you) 700 calories and hour (350 for your 30 minutes) while on your elliptical @ a HR of 150 bpm.
Note: some people your age have higher maximum heart rates (way over 200), and for them 150 bpm is not 80% and they wouldn't be burning 700 calories an hour.
Wow I really appreciate you taking the time, I am grateful! I have been counting these cardio sessions as 330 cal burn, It takes about 5 minuets to get my HR to 150 and it is 35 min routine without the cool down, so I think that is pretty close to your estimate. My resting heart rate is 86, and I keep it between 145-155 when I am doing cardio, I occasionally will give a burst into peak, but I don't let it drop below 140. Thanks again for taking the time, Sarah |

The thing I hate the worst is the way that they're portraying the cooks at the school - like they're all hateful and want to feed kids bad food.
Look how many kids they have to feed in a single day! Cooking with healthy, fresh food is easy at home for a family of 4 or 5, but in a school of 500 - trying to feed that many people on a budget and a schedule is another story.
How would you like it if someone showed up to tell you how badly you did your job, and that you had to do it a different way and it was a lot harder? I'm not saying that the way Cabell County Schools structure their menus is right, or healthy, but it's not those cooks' fault. If he was so hell bent on helping, and not using us for publicity, he should have had a sit down with the Board of Education and worked it from that angle, and not just going into one school and using those kids like lab rats.
Ugh. They went and found the worst people possible, and are using them to say that's what all Huntingtonians ares like. How typical of any time WV is on tv. Look at the redneck hilljacks! ~rolls eyes~
I live in a house with indoor plumbing, I have all my teeth and more than one pair of shoes!
Sorry to dump all this on the forum...my husband is at a concert this evening so I'm sitting here watching it alone. Just finished my workout and logged my 1300 calorie day. I can't be from Huntington! My BMI is much too low!
Jamie Oliver has stated over and over again that he feels bad for the cooks and knows it's not there fault. It is ridiculousthat children are not being fed healthy meals in schools, especially since healthy diet and exercise has been linked by numerous studies to better concentration, higher marks i school, less behavioralissues, just to name a few. And I would say that just like on biggest looser they do wasn't to show the worst of the worst, that is the best way to get the point across! As far as school food, pizza, corn dogs, sugar laden cereal, the kids are lucky to get a healthy choice. It is sad and I am afraid that you are the exception and not the rule. It all starts with education! That is the point! Sarah |

It's Wednesday. I'm still sticking to my 1500 cal a day give or take 50 here and there. I walked 3 miles on Monday, yesterday, today (just 1.5 miles...not by choice, my car broke down...but got the exercise anyways lol) walking again tomorrow also. I really want this to be my last attemp at life change. I'm tired of being overweight. Has anyone experienced any emotional shifts? This website says I am an emotional eater and with the bad stuff stipped away I am noticing more irritability and emotional flare-ups. Well good liuck all. I weigh again on Monday so I'll post my week 2 results then. I think I am a week behind everyone but better late then never.
Honestly the first couple months I was a total B@#$hbut I think it was from not eating enough, adjusting to new foods, withdrawing from excess salt sugar and fat, etc. When I upped my cals and started allowing a little more lenience in my food choices I felt much better! I am an emotional eater, I am a generally emotional person, be it happiness, sadness or what ever. I am trying to reteach myself how to deal with my emotions, and remind myself that I am in control of my emotions they are not in control of me! Sarah |

Well it's true that I don't go overboard with the peanut butter maybe 2 tablespoons a day sometimes less. So I'll keep exercising moderation that way I don't have to give up my much loved Kraft PB.
My problem really is not adding enough calorie dense foods, I see that now with all the help from the lovely forum people. With my new diet I'm just now finally not eating so many empty calories. So with the healthy foods I feel so FULL that's what's keeping me from making the 1200 cals.
If you give us an example of what you eat on a normal day we could help you come up with some ways to add in calories without shoving an extra lb. of food down yourself everyday. Also make sure your eating enough of every food group; protein, dairy (or substitute), fruits, veggies, grains, and fats. If all else fails drink your calories; OJ, apple juice, just about any juice will add in calories without making you feel overly full, make sure you go with a natural juice, without a ton of extra salt and sugar. I'm a woman 5'2" 160 pounds and trying to lose 30 pounds. I've switched my diet over for a while now and now included much more veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and lean protein. The problem now is that I cannot reach the 1200 calories a day eating healthy I'm too full! Now this would be a good thing but I hear under 1200 calories my body will go into starvation mode and I REALLY don't want that! When I ate unhealthy it was empty so I could easily eat 2000 cal a day or more if I had fried foods. Now I'm eating ALL the time but not reaching my calorie goal!
apples with PB, yogurt with fruit and granola, and fruit smoothies with whey protein, are all good ways to get a calorie dence snack in without feeling to full. Sarah

not unless you say hello to hypnotiq, vodka, or bailey's ;) lol.
I think you'll always sort of know, but you can definitely learn to set it aside to enjoy a splurge every now and again. I don't think that knowing the extremely high calorie counts makes those foods off limits but just increases the moderation needed when consuming them.
don't worry you'll learn to balance! :)
I drank a fifth of Bacardi with diet Dr. Pepper last Sat, I still wasn't able to eat without counting, I don't remember going to bed that night but I sure remebered to write down the 15 wheat thins and chicken sausage on a potato bun, and exactly how many calories were in them when I woke up all hung over. Hey guys, happy hump day! Congrats missbebedoll on the marathon! And congrats to everyone else who has lost weight this week :)
I did a long weekend trip last weekend and even though we walked miles and miles every day seeing all the sites, I didn't eat well at all. Lots of muffins and cafe food, pretty much whatever I could grab on the go. I was doing so much walking that I probably didn't gain anything, but I'm really bloated from all of the simple carbs. Grrr.
Well, today is a new day and I'm just about to head to the store to restock my fridge with healthy stuff! Then off to the gym I go!
Keep it up rose, somtimes this journey feels like a roller coaster, go get your produce, fill your fridge, and drink lots of water to get rid of the bloat. I'm sure all will be well by next weigh in! Sarah

Yesterday I weighed 169.8 lbs and today was 170.4 lbs! Yes!! I just added today's weight to the weight log and my little calorie coach thumb changed from aug 7th to july 17th!! I lost nearly a freaking month! Hell yeah!
I had a goal of getting to 165.whatever by easter but then I plateaued I didn't think it was possible. But now I feel like I can totally make that! 11 days to lose 4 lbs... difficult but not completely impossible! Let's see what happens. I won't get my hopes up but I may cry again if I make it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I was crying hyterically yesterday when I weighed myself! I haven't seen anything under 170 in so long I felt like I was never gonna make it! I was texting my mom and calling my cousin to tell them the good news! The three of us have really been struggling with our weight for the last few years and we've just recently all gotten into a losing groove so we call and text over every lb! haha
Congrats on seeing 169, I only weigh myself once a week because I stress way to much on the fluctuations, since I started weighing once a week I feel much better about my weight loss and don't get discouraged wich some times leads me to a binge. Sarah |

okay, I had a crazy realization this week that I had to share. I go to a step class straight from work a couple nights a week, so I change at the office. A co-worker said to me I go to the gym more than anyone she knows. I instantly replied, no way, I hate the gym. Then I realized, wait, I do go to the gym a lot. I actually like the gym! I make time to go. What a huge change in mind set. It has really pumped up my enthusiasm and effort when I am there:)
That is great! keep it up! I went to the gym for the first time in over three years yesterday. I didn't think I'd make it 5 minuets. I did 35 mins. of cardio (strenuously) and 25 min. of weights. Today I hurt, but I'm going again tomorrow! Sarah |
