Satin,

Thanks, I will definitely try to boost my water intake. I already try to eat a well rounded fruit and veggie diet, but I kind of loath water. Haha. I only chug it down when I'm exercising.

As far as the calories go. I haven't been adjusting them past what CC has started me off on (based off the weight I want to lose and my suggested date). I will try to taper it down.

Thank you :)

I was the exact same way. I use to only drink it when I was tired after exercising. But it really makes a difference when you make a decision to drink a glass of water with every meal and after exercise. Water weight sucks!

Weight Loss How do you treat yourself when you meet a weight loss goal? Apr 18 2012

I'm sure there has been something like this before, but here it goes anyway. How have you treated yourself and how are you planning on treating yourself for goals you have set? Or is the satifaction of loosing weight enough on it's own?

I know for many people loosing weight meansthat you are able to do more things, so how are you going to make the most of that?

For me I have decided that at about 73-75kg when I reach 68-69kg I am planning on buying a pair of hunter wellies, a bit of an extravigance I know but as a rower wellies are something I will use quite a lot and my current old wellies seem to have started falling apart a little. The only reason I haven't already bought a pair of hunters has been because my calves are slightly too chubby so I find they are little too tight!!

shopping for smaller clothes is going to be my 20 pound lost reward. every 20 pounds till goal weight I am going to shop.

So I'm a university student at LJMU in England! I'm the biggest in my class but can maintain a long endurance during sport! I play hockey for the university to. All my friends are skinny and curvy and I find myself looking at them wishing I looked that way to! When I think about why I want to loose weight, would you judge me of I said it was to fit in or to have people like me, confidence maybe even new romance! I have a best friend who I have strong feelings for but feel there's no chance the way I look now! It's hard work but I'm determined to loose this for myself aswell! Confidence is key and I don't really have any at the momment:) xxx

I dont judge you and its understandable.

Me personally my reasons for losing weight is totally vain. I want to look sexy...er Kiss

Hey guys, I've been lurking for a long while now and this is my first real post.  So since I've joined CC I've dropped about 17lbs from 183 so not I'm about 166.  I feel like it's an accomplishment to see that # but at the same time, I feel like I look exactly the same.  Granted my pants are a little looser but I still have those jelly rolls and love handles.

I know a lot of it is mental, so my question is when is the time you see a difference in your self?

take pictures of your self monthly

track your measurements

go try on smaller clothes (this is the most fun thing to do)

I lost 15 pounds and I can kind a see a different in tummy and thighs. My ass and arms aint doing much though and I know because my measurements in those areas havent changed lol. In three or four more weeks I will be shopping for clothes to see if I can fit in a smaller size. Some people usually say they see a change  in inches every 10-20 pounds or so, therefore I plan to try on clothes at every 20 pound milestone :)

How much water does everyone drink daily? I'm trying to do 8 glasses. Do you think that this is enough? Also, is it helpful to add lemon to water?

This is coming from somebody who only drunk water when tired after playing a sport and use to be the type that say "I dont like water that much"....

I now drink a 16oz glass of water with every meal and I eat anywhere from 4-6x a day. I think drinking out of 16oz glass made it very easy because thats like knocking out two cups (8oz) of water so it dont feel like I am forcing myself to drink all that much. So I am easily downing 8-12 cups of water by drinking only 4-6 glasses of water. Way easier.

Another thing that have helped me with preferring water is that in the past I use to try to gulp down water after I had my beverage of choice w/ my meal (juice, milk, soda, etc). Once I drink my juice or soda I dont even want that tasteless water. Now after I eat I say I can have my other beverage AFTER I drink my glass of water. So after I drink my glass of water I find that I have no desire for an additional beverage like juice or anything. And subconsciously I have been replacing other beverages for my water instead.

and I am now so use to water that I cant believe that I use to be the one who dislike it lol

Ive been reading all kinds of diets and I just dont know now...Is 9 grain/whole grain/ country harvest type breads good to eat , or not?

Some plans, such as herbal magic say leave the breads alone that have seeds/nuts. I thought grain/breads was a healthy part of the daily food plan? (mind you, they certainly do have a LOT of calories) 2 slices of bread is like 260 calories alone with nothing on it.

I eat 45 calorie per slice Sarah lee wheat bread and I love it :)

Hey everyone,

I just started the weight loss hurdle again.  I had lost 45lbs around 2 years ago.  I weighed 195lb orginally before i lost that weight.  I am 5'5 and 197lbs now.  I have lost a little over 5lbs since last monday when I started.  It would have been more except I ran into a problem. My husband is a truck driver and he is home on the weekends.  We decided since we didn't have the kids, we would do an overnight run.  We left at 6:30 and had to stop somewhere to eat.  We went to a buffet which I thought I had done ok at.  I had a wonderful salad with eggs, italian dressing, spring mix lettuce with spinich, and a little bit of cheese.  Then I went to the dinner side.  OMG.  It was awful.  I stood there thinking what can I eat?  We were in a hurry so I didn't want to stand there forever.  I picked some greenbeans that looked like they were out of a can (maybe 1/2 a cup), pot roast (probably half the size of the palm of your hand), carrots in the pot roast (about 4), and some potatos (about 1 cup).  These are rough estimates.  I measure my food when I am home so I can get my portion sizes correct.  The only thing I cheated on was I had a cup full (approx) of some sweet cobbler type thing.  I figured since I had worked that day moving rocks and shoveling mulch, it would be ok.  The next morning, we had to eat at Denny's.  I got the ultimate omelete.  I only ate half of the egg and all of the meat/veggies inside.  I had 1 serving of honey roasted peanuts.  Between the 2 meals I think I had 4 mello yellos.. We got home and for dinner I had my norm of 4oz of chicken, steamed veggies, and a salad.  When I weighed myself Monday morning.. I gained 1.5lbs.. O that was so frustrating!!  I thought I had done good except for the mello yello and desert.  I could not find a single thing inside of the Pilot gas station that we stopped at that was even somewhat healthy.  I saw baked chips (not my thing), peanuts, trail mix, and that pretty much sums it up.  What can you do if you are planning to be on the road and don't have time to pack ahead?  I was very frustrated.
It also seems like since my family knows that I am on a diet, they try to make 'special' meals for me.  Example: When I go to my dad's house, he tells me, I'll cook chicken just for you with only spices on it and no sauce.  I know that he is just trying to help out but it also singles me out.  Does anyone else have this problem?

well you have to remember that when you consume snacks that are high in sodium that it doesnt mean you necessarily gained a pound of fat. it could have been water weight from all the sodium you ate and was just bloated.

so if I were you when you have to make those type of stops pay attention to the calories (siince calories is all that matters in terms of fat gain or lost), make sure you have a calorie deficit, and as far as the problem with sodium just drink lots of water to counteract it. are you guys able to stop at a grocery store instead? if so load up on fruits and veggies with high water content to cut down on that sodium that you may consume from your snacks. if for whatever reason you cant make stops to the groceries then you definitely should plan ahead and stock up frozen fruits in individual ziplock bags that you can grab and take with you on your truck stops along with bottled water.

but always make sure you following your calories so that way when you weigh yourself you know for sure if whether its just water weight or not

Hi all-- I just joined, hoping this might be a good way for me to keep track of what I'm actually eating throughout the day since I can't seem to move from my current weight! I'm 5'6" and 178 pounds. I'd like to get down to 140 or so. I'm trying to make it to the gym but my motivation is practically non-existent after a long day of teaching! Any ideas for motivation to help kick start me into action?

you know when it comes to motivation for me personally I just got sick and tired of being at the weight I am. and unfortunately you just have to get to the point where you had enough. there is no magic pick me ups. not to sound crass but I literally just had to get off my fat ass and do something lol.

looking at commercials with Jennifer Hudson and her new slimmed down body along with seeing my freaking mother in law kicking it in gear to lose weight made me say "THATS IT" no more of this :::jiggling my belly:::

@imsatindoll As far as my stats.  I am 24 years old and weigh 168lbs and I am 5'2".  I don't know if to consider myself moderately or lightly active? Im not working so "im home most of the time unless I'm at school.  At home I do light chores and as far as excercise I am doing 30-35 minutes of circuit training 6 dyas a week with Jillian M

Not an expert but just giving my opinion and hope you can find a solution....

Under light activity CC says you burn 2020. So if you want you could try eating at 1500 calories on days you do the JM and on days you dont do those tapes eat at 1200 along with continuing having a good water intake and you should see changes in the scale.

If you want a more closer to accurate as possible estimate of your calories instead what I personally do is set my CC settings to sedentary and everyday I go to the activity tool on CC and log whatever exercise I did for however many minutes and you take that total minus 500 calories to eat by....

So for example if it says based off your age, weight, height, that you burn 1700 calories then for today when you did your did aerobics (I dont know if JM is considered aerobics or not) for 30 minutes I will find "aerobics - low intensity" in the activity tool, put down 30 minutes which my guess is about 200 calories but you would have to put that info in to see what that additional burn will be, and your total calorie burn for the day will go from 1700 to 1900 (depending on what number you got). So therefore you can eat 1400 calories or whatever that number you got minus 500.

For your weight my guess (considering im no expert) is that you may be eating below your activity level which have caused many women in your predicament to not lose any weight (the dreaded starvation mode).

but you do not have to take my word for it. I believe there are plenty of posts on CC where women was in the same shoes as yours and can give stories on what happened and why

good luck!

@ imsatindoll First of all, thanx for responding!! Feeling kind of low yesterday because of my weight in.  How do you check your daily or weekly deficit? Im averaging about 1200 calories a day, which is what calorie count has me on and the is also what Jillian Michaels recommends on her diet plan.  I have definitely noticed that my bowel movements are better, so I don't think it's that. As far as water goes, I try to drink at least 10 cups of water a day, is that ok? I'm not sure if Im building muscle or not, Ifeel stronger, but havent really seen a big diffrence you know? I forgot to mention that I have been a little bloated recently due to that time of the onth, but I don't think ity would have taken a big effect.  I've been struggling to lose weight for a while, and it just seems impossible evne after diet and excercise.

well your deficit is the number of calories you eat minus what your burn everyday. in order to lose atleast a pound a week your deficit should be at 500 (so for example if you burn 2500 calories per day and eat at 2000 calories your deficit is 500 and you should be losing.) Now I am concerned that for you to be doing some Jillian Micheals that it sounds like your active yet eating at 1200 calories. So it is POSSIBLE that you are undereating and the effects of not eating enough can also be the reason you dont see a change in the scale as well.

I dont know your age, height, or weight but according to CC a 21 yr old female who is moderately active and weighs 150 pounds and is 5'6' burns 2270 calories. So for her to lose weight with a deficit of 500 she needs to eat at 1770 calories. Again I do not know your stats for me to say whether you eating at 1200 is a problem or not......

So I started the legitimate mission to lose weight when my co-workers and I started mildly obsessing over getting healthier before summer.

A couple of my close co-workers started eating healthy and regularly exercising and have had AMAZING results.

True, until utilizing Calorie Count, I was binging a great deal more than my fellow scale-busters, but my body seems to always be on the defensive.

I can't stand here and wonder how my best co-worker friend has lost 30 lbs, and here I sit struggling to keep 5 off...

Has anyone else had this experience of an early plateau? Once that 5-7 lbs comes off (which NEVER ever happens) then my body starts adapting quicker.

But usually it'll take me MONTHS before I can break it.

I'm a true big-boned girl, being 5'10". And I am muscular, since I've always kept up some sort of exercise. But plateauing at 225 and being stuck with a body that, while being proportioned, is still not "fit" is SO FRUSTRATING...

Thoughts?

When I tried to lose weight before I experienced an early plateau but that was only because I wasnt drinking enough water and really couldnt see my fat loss because of all the bloating the scale was reading. So I got discouraged gave up and am now back losing weight again.

few things that helped me personally this second go round

I drink 16oz glass of water with every meal first before I touch  my beverage of choice (if I even have another bevarage of choice at all. these days water has been my main beverage for most daily meals)

I make sure every meal I eat a fruit or veggie with high water content (leafy veggies, asparagus, broccalli, watermelon, apple, berries, grapefruit, etc)

pairing water, fruit, and veggies to any meat, bread, dairy, even sweets that I have really helped me counteract sodium which is what cause water weight. so when I weigh myself I dont see 5 pounds or 10 pounds of water weight in the way.

water weight has deceived many into thinking they havent lost fat at all which is not true.

another thing to consider is are your calories adjusted to your new weight? the more you lose the smaller your deficit becomes if you still continue to eat at the same amount of calories or do the same amount of activities daily. so are you eating the same calories at say for example 250 while you are now 220? if so you may not be keeping the deficit that you need to lose weight if your deficit is getting smaller due to your being at a smaller weight which means you will burn less than when you were bigger. to keep your deficit at 500 make sure you are working with your new weight. I think CC automatically adjusts though. maybe adjust your cal intake to this change or workout a little more longer? for me personally I love eating at 2000 calories and really have no desire to eat below that so I choose to workout longer in order to keep a deficit of 500-1000 lol.

make sure your eating enough calories so that your body is not in what people call starvation mode as well.

if you know its not water weight and you know you are definitely keeping a deficit of atleast 500 calories and you know you are eating enough calories for your body then go to what most people say about breaking a plateu which is switch up your workouts or zigzag your calories and see if that helps.

good luck.

Hey guys!! SO I dont know if its bad or good news :(.  Im definitely not oo happy about it.  So I finalized four weeks of doing Jillian Michaels Body revolution excercise pland and for the most part her diet plan as well.  After for weeks no weight loss!!! I did measure and I lost 8.75 inches.  So I guess thats the good part, but Im disappointed not to see those numbers on the scale moving.  A bit frustrated and sad I guess. I just don't know what Im doing wrong.  This week started tracking and Ive kept within my calorie intake except for sat and sunday I was actually under, but I just don't know :(

losing eight inches sounds fantastic to me. then again that is because I am totally happier with inch lost versus pound lost. being actually smaller versus lighter just seems better to me lol.

are you counting calories at all with this diet? if so what is your daily or weekly deficit? if its in the 500 range then you know you should lose a pound. and if your not losing then are you drinking enough water to counteract any sodium which counteracts bloating? if not water weight well have you been building muscle? not to sound gross but have you been releasing your waste regularly?

you are probably losing pounds of fat but the scale could very well be reading water weight, muscle gained, waste maybe?

if its not all those things then this diet may have you eat too little calories (starvation mode) or too much calories (too little deficit or none at all)

Welcome Danii and Satin! We are always accepting new people! so welcome :)

@Dani your reason to lose weight is so noble. This person must mean a lot to you!! That's really sweet.

@Satin- Focusing on mini goals is the way to be!

I wanted to weigh 143.5 today but i am in the middle of my cycle which always adds 5 lbs on my weight. I am actually pretty thrilled i got it because normally i am RAVENOUS the week before hand and eat everything that isnt glued down and this month i was able to avoid that! Which i felt great about. I am hoping that a day after my cycle ends then i will be back to 143.5 for the rest of the week.

I went out friday night and drank with friends in Philadelphia and we drank throughout the day yesterday too. I met friends for brunch in Williamsburg and had a mimosa ( hey i got my vitamin c in! Haha) Then we shopped all day at thift stores, i scored some awesome boots and a dress for the fall. Then we had fish tacos and drank beers until the sun went down at happy hour. What can i say? life is pretty hard! Hahah. Obviously i am kidding. My life is awesome. I feel like its better to cheat when you are on you cycle because your weight is already messed up  and its hard to lose lbs during the week.Even though i know logically that doesnt make sense, calories are calories.

I am going to make up for the drinking today. I'm going to do the Tracy Anderson video for the first time today! Wish me luck!

I will be good the rest of the week. I am going to go food shopping this morning and pick up everything i need for the week to eat right and stay low calorie.

Today is 85 degrees in New York so i am going to the beach! I am either going to call out of internship or switch my days but i am pretty sure i have a sick day or two left and why not use em! I cant weight to lay in the sun and soak up some rays. I need to get a bit of a tan before i go to Europe!

How was everyone's weekend?

My weekend was good. I am getting use to the working out for 2 hours thing.

Sounds like you had a blast. When its a special occasion I eat, drink, enjoy, and don't count calories. I still try to workout if possible but that's as far as it goes. After the occasion is over I get right back to watching calories and eating my own groceries.

Hello ALL!!

So i have been looking all over this site and i havent found an active forum for females in their 20's looking to lose 20-70 pounds! I recently lost 41 pounds and i am looking to lose another 20 or so to get back down to my ideal weight. Since i didnt see one i decided to start one!

I need a place to rant about weight loss frustrations, exercise habits and healthful tips so that all my friends don't abandon me because all I talk about is weight loss! I've been reading reall beautiful forums but none of them are currently active and i would love to form some community with females my own age struggling with weight loss. If anyone KNOWS of a community, let me know! Thanks!

I am so with you. I am 24 and I lost 13 pounds so far (started 7 weeks ago). I got alot to lose but my mini goal is total 20 pound weight loss or be one dress size smaller before I go on my cruise in may so I got 7 more pounds to drop before then and hopefully I lose enough inches to get smaller clothes.

My next mini goal will probably be to drop another 14-28 pounds (or be another dress size smaller) by August.

I think it helps to mainly focus on a mini goal and once I reach my mini goal I will create another one, reach it, and do it all over again until I reach my overwall goal weight/size. me focusing on trying to lose 20 pounds is way easier than me looking at the total pounds I need to lose.

I have played around with losing weight the last few months, but I've decided it's time to do this. I have about 28 lbs to lose to get to my first goal of 120. Who wants to do this with me?

I am in. So far I lost 13 pounds when I started my weight loss journey 7 weeks ago and I want to continue dropping pounds. Right now I got a cruise coming it up and I am trying to be one dress size down before then so maybe reaching that 20 pound loss goal will mean I lose enough inches to be able to fit in one size smaller clothes. So in order to try to drop about 7 more pounds in like three or four weeks I decided to up my workouts to two hours instead of one hour. I started this doubling up my exercise thing about three days ago and so far im consistent.

I think it is perfectly possible to eat healthy and be overweight. You can eat healthy foods but eat too much of them and gain weight.

As for the comment "I hardly eat at all", again I think it is possible to be overweight and hardly eat at all. Maybe they don't eat much but when they do eat they are eating high caloric density foods (fast food or whatnot). Or maybe they eat little but drink sugar loaded soda all day. Or possibly, as you said, they don't have a baseline for what eating too much looks like.

I think both of these problems would be corrected by education. Unfortunately, we don't have any nutrition education in the schools... at least in the US but that's an entirely different topic.

this. ^^^

quite simply if you take an obesed inactive person and they very well dont eat much at all...they can still gain weight over the years if they drink alot of high calories drinks or their 1-3 meals per day are high calorie. those calories add up.

You can cross check your workouts with results: are you losing faster than 2 lbs/week or 1% of body weight? If so your deficits are too high.

I don't know how you can exercise like that and stay at 2000 calories. Exercise makes me hungry.

I eat about 4-6x a day with meals that are balanced nutrition especially high in protein which helps me stay full longer and I chug a 16oz glass of water directly after which also helps me stay very full as well.
