Not only that, isn't Thanksgiving all about stealing from the Indians (Real Americans) and then shooting them? The whole holiday is a bit sick really. Not only is an animal being butchered but it stands for murder all together.

I love the meatless bags of dry flakes with I add to water, mix and then make balls and bake. These are the most delicious meatless burger things in the world.

Ummm-so I HATE McDonalds anyway but those sneaky devils tricked me back with there fruit and walnut salads with gelatin-free yogurt and the Asian salad.  However-be warned-the NEWMAN'S SOUTHWEST dressing is NOT vegetarian.  Read the label!

So-my purpose here today is to simply get people to list surprise non-veggie foods.

It may be old news but gelatin is a pork product (mcd's shakes, Skittles, Starburst, Ice breaksers gum, etc...)

Please add as many foods as you can so that people can just glance at the list and know where NOT to eat and when they must eat at cetain places, they know what NOT to eat.  Thanks!

The veggie burgers in Mcdonalds are not vegetarian apparently. They say it's made with vegetables not for vegetarians. They sometimes cook it in beef fat. Weird.

Vegetarian Vegetarians in the Military? Sep 11 2010

The whole vegetarian/vegan thing and military makes no sense to me. To me it looks like this: Killing, harming animals, or using them == BAD, Potentially killing or facilitating the killing of other human beings for what is at the core are political reasons == OK. Not trying to offend anyone, I just don't understand the logic.

UD

Not everyone who joins the army becomes a solider. I was looking at becoming a Training Officer. A teacher basically. I didn't realise this involved killing people.

Information:

Father was in the RAF

Brother is in the Army

Considered joining the Army

Thanks for reaffirming that I am a vegetarian. I was reading Toadstirfry's post and was getting nervous.  Anyway, I love this site, I have been a almost vegetarian for years, only ate beef, but in the last 6-8 months, beef has grossed me out, so I need all the help I can get. After reading your posts, I am not doing too bad.

Eggs gross me out too, because they come out of chickens, Isn't that odd, my body just reacts like this and I can't help it.

I have one question, I eat the morning star and boca burgers, they do not taste like any type of meat to me.  What does the hot dogs, sausage taste like.  There are times, few and far between, that I have the urge for a hotdog with ketchup, but I am scared to bite into the soy ones. I am normal otherwise!!:)

thanks, Jane

Hey :] Congratulations of getting over the hurdle.

I find that Soy hot dogs are a bit plain, look for a good celebrated brand packed with flavour. Also be willing to add sauce and lots of it. However the Quorn sausages are nice, especially Linda McCartney ones as the skin is firm and slightly crunchy. However if you like the smooth skin go for Quorn brand. However if you loved burgers (like me) instead of buying Quorn, buy the meatless dry mix that you add to water, stir and make circle moulds before baking. These are the most delicious creation ever. They have a great texture and taste delicious. And it's 'home made' xD kinda.

Also when I first became veggie I had soya bacon and hated it. I tried it a a few days ago - quite a while after - and I loved it. If you're so used to the taste of mean, vegetarian versions might taste bland or wrong to you. So choose the Quorn packed with flavour until venturing off into the subtle tastes of soy :P however don't take my word for it alone: try it, just don't write it off just yet, give your taste buds time to adapt to this world of new flavours :D

By definition, vegetarianism has nothing to do with ethics or morals. Its just someone who doesnt eat meat.

You're not vegetarian. Just picky :P Don't worry about explaining it, just say you don't fancy *insert meat* today. Lots of people understand that. I think that labelling yourself something that your not can insult people. Especially when telling people you follow a certain set of morals that you do not.

HIP ever said that she was interested in telling people she follows any particular morals. as she pointed out, the actual definition of vegetarian has nothing to do with morals. although i agree that many people imply some morality into the meaning, that's their issue.

Hmmm. Well I think morality has alot to do with vegetarianism. To not kill animals for greed has high morality value.

I eat chicken like twice a month.

Other than that its grains, dairy, starches and fruit.

I like meat, i just rarely eat it.

Would this make a bit vegetarian-like?

Haha, this might have come across as stupid, but oh well.

Lots of meat tastes dry to me, and i prefer not to slather it in grease, animal fat or sauce. so i just prefer not to eat it.

I could never eat meat for the rest of my life and not really be bothered by it.

By definition, vegetarianism has nothing to do with ethics or morals. Its just someone who doesnt eat meat.

So, is there a bit of vegetarianism in me? Without me even realizing? lol

Young Calorie Counters "guys dig curves" garbage Jul 06 2010

Well I've always been on the bigger end of the scale and I never had any problems dating. Guys however find me more attractive now that I've lost three stone, but maybe that's because I'm a 14 instead of a 22 and have curves.

I've never met any guys who like to date skinny girls. I think it's only other girls who like skinny girls or aspire to be like them. Eventually it all comes down to personality :P Boring, I know. Guys prefer a girl who can have fun and make them laugh which is what it boils down to in the end. So don't worry so much about size and concentrate more about people skills :P

Also yes :p high school guys tend to go for popular, and in high school popular = skinny. Maybe it wasn't that they were skinny it was because they acted confident.

The older generation however find beauty attractive and not so much size.

I'd like to be a young adult novelist, but I know how slim the chances of THAT are.. so I'll settle for being a librarian :)

Settle?! Becoming a Librarian is like a dream! :P What about an editor or for a publishing company :P If you know people in high places you can get them to read some of your work as a favour. And  have a much higher chance of people recognising your work or even publish it :]

Or..you come home from the gym and log your activities in BEFORE you hit the shower.

HA! Yes :P I do this.

Please don't get sucked into that trap.

If you think being skinny is going to make you more confident and more attractive, you're probably wrong. Especially if everyone tells you you're fine the way you are.

I got "thinner" for "myself" The end result was me being cold all the time and watching my hair start to fall out.

And ultimately, the only comments I got were "you're too skinny, you should gain weight"

oh gosh, you make me sick. you're a guy, i'm sure you don't even realize or even remotely understand how girls feel in their skin. it's really tough for a girl to feel absolutely confident in her skin, i have felt much better and so have many other girls who are pretty thin...a lot more confident than i was chunky.

you obv. went too far with losing weight, doesn't mean we will. so you please get out of that trap you're in and trying to make others feel as if they're in it also.

Um wow, that is so close minded, Men suffer just as much with anorexia as women, only they get less publicity.  Models have many connotations to females and eating disorders so it's a unfortunately common mistake. Alot of males have eating disorders, so I think it's a 'human' feeling to feel, as you said 'un-confident in your own skin' or something of that nature. I think that's more to do with back ground and personal experience. So he was just warning others about negative effects of extreme dieting. And strangely enough, I didn't realise that comment was made by a male (strange that you did). But the fact he was is  inconsequential.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
