Yes, secondmouse. That's a good point....except to my knowledge, most mushrooms aren't purposely fermented in giant vats before we eat them...but I I could be wrong! ;) Yes, sausage is all processed and I'm pretty sure I alluded to that when I mentioned the nitrates and nitrites. Glad we can agree! |

I wasn't implying it was a secret (except for the part about people reportedly getting sick), but I do feel it is relevant. The part about it being extremely processed is also relevant considering they make it sound like Quorn is the most natural thing in the world on the packaging. Antibinge, since you're eating it for taste you may just want to weigh the pros and cons between Quorn sausage and the real thing. I don't know if I'd want to know what parts of the animal go in "real" sausage either, and the nitrites and nitrates found in traditional sausage are not the best. Despite this, I still eat it! haha |

I enjoy the taste of Quorn (& lower calories) but did some reading about what it's made of. Not to burst your bubble, but it is created from a form of fungus: http://www.johnrobbins.info/blog/what-about-q uorn/
I'm not sure what the effects of ingesting fungus are, but this is definitely a man-made, processed food to the max. Here's some further reading: "The mycoprotein that is in Quorn is called “Fusarium Venenatum”. It is a moldy fungus that is grown in large fermentation tanks by the Quorn corporation. Under certain conditions, “Fusarium venenatum” can morph into toxins known as trichothecene mycotoxins, causing nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Quorn products have sickened hundreds of people. CSPI has been gathering their sickening stories and sharing them on their website. They also are pushing for the removal of Quorn products from store shelves." *Website source below* http://www.healthyreader.com/2008/04/16/quorn -controversy/

Personally I've been doing a lot of sauteed spinach with garlic and mushrooms, as well as butternut squash. I cheat and buy the pre-cut butternut squash at the store because cutting it up is an ordeal in itself! Zephyr mentioned veggie chips and kale is great for that! It' super easy, too..just get a bunch of kale & break it into large bit-sized pieces (it will cook down.) Mix the kale in a large bowl with a splash of olive oil, kneading the oil into the kale with your hands. Then sprinkle a bit of salt (I prefer sea salt) & optional apple cidar vinegar. Spread the leaves out on a large, flat baking tray and make sure none of the leaf edges overlap. Bake at 315 degrees for 12-15 minutes and enjoy!
Good luck =) |

Dear alexstability, I'm glad you are proud of your accomplishment. It's natural to feel discouraged sometimes, but rather than sit around and commiserate in some sort of pity party, I think the point the commenters are making is that focusing on the negative and feeling bad isn't going to help anything. If you're curious how everyone else deals with the downside to losing weight, we can tell you. At least I can tell you what NOT to do. When I started getting frustrated and crying out that I was tired of working so hard when others didn't, tired of having to be conscious every moment of such an insignificant thing as eating, those words did not have a positive outcome. Perhaps that's why I felt compelled to mention how great you've been doing, in hopes of shifting the focus because those "woe is me" and "this sucks" kind of thoughts are natural, but do NO good. We all have these thoughts, and if you want to know how other people deal with it I can tell you that for me, I consciously shift my thought process to SOMETHING ELSE. Food for thought: Losing weight is not always fun and won't make someone happy...happiness is a state of mind, not body. |

Those are some true statements, right there! I don't know if this is your first time losing a significant amount of weight, alexstability but trust me when I tell you the "aha! moment" will come. Notice I mentioned the "first time" losing weight because from my experience, it wasn't until I lost weight and gained back that I could look at pics from my loss and recognize how far I had come. Don't let this be you! You have done something most people will never do, and the Calorie Count community is proud of you. Keep at it, and congrats! |

Wow, I can relate 100% because I am in the same boat with the weight situation. Keep on trucking, because you can do it!!! It is so hard to keep motivated, but remind yourself that you are the same person who met her goal before and will do it again. Continue enjoying the way you feel on your journey and consider the end-goal as just one of many awesome points along the way! I can also relate to your "frenemy" situation and there is no doubt that the girl's negative comments stem from jealousy. Forget that trash, and if she ever attempts to engage you with an apology remind her that people surround themselves with friends who mirror how they feel about themselves: IE, you are fabulous and only surround yourself with people who treat you fabulous! Know your worth and forget Oscar the Grouch because she's a lowly, toxic human being. You don't want that rubbing off on your greatness so avoid her like the plague! If a group of girls were drawn to your positive energy and wanted to learn your secret, you're already halfway there hunny! |

When I had lost a good chunk of weight (in the past), a male customer at work said, "You look so great now that you've lost weight!" I actually was not offended because (1) His first language was Russian and I already knew about the language barrier and (2) Who doesn't like being told they look great? Though I was not offended, my male coworker was and he snapped back, "She's always looked great, buddy!" It was ironic that a male was more sensitive to the comment than I was. I think trisha801, kariqk, and kathrynallison all make good points about men's reaction to the controversial topic of a woman's weight...I think it's a subject they'd rather not touch! |

1) Rye bread --why are almost all sandwhich "melts" slopped onto this bread? 2) Mustard 3) Ham 4) Anything "chipotle" flavored seems to have a nasty, smokey flavor I can't get used to 5) Tapioca--mushy balls in squishy pudding is no bueno |

I am sorry you must suffer through this, but glad you shared the hilarity with the forum! As for my office pet peeves, I work in an insurance office--take your pick! My pet peeves are not as much with my coworkers as they are with the wacky clients. Some of the insurance claims people file are mind-boggling. No, your dentures falling in the toilet are not covered by your policy, and NO, a squirrel climbing down your chimney and eating all your food isn't either, and YES, these were both claims that were really filed by customers. |

Sorry to hear you're so tired all the time! Are you getting enough iron in your diet? Some of my friends who are anemic complain about feeling tired all the time, so it's just a thought. Like chrissy1988 said, a balanced diet, sleep, and supplements should do the trick (B-12 in particular.) I'd also lay off the caffeine to offset any adrenal fatigue that can occur when you have too many stimulants. In addition, watch what you're eating for lunch to make sure it's low-glycemic and doesn't give you a spike in energy and then an afternoon slump! |

1. What is Your Screen Resolution Size? 1280x1024 and I had to look that up... 2. Do you like your hair color? The red undertones give me an excuse to have a temper & use sarcasm freely, so yes! 3. Innie or Outie bellybutton? Outie 4. Colorful socks or just plain white/black ones? I wear lowcut socks that don't peek over my shoes so it doesn't matter, but for the record I'm wearing white ones right now =) 5. White bread, brown bread or neither? Avoid bread at all costs! But if I must then wheat it is. 6. Boom or bam? Men invented the bing and the bam just to get to the boom. 7. MLIA or FML? o.O IDLA=I don't like acronyms! 8. If you could have one wish, what would it be? (could be a new car, grow taller, etc.) I would wish health and longevity upon all of my friends and family so we could all grow old together! 9. Eeenie meenie miney mo catch a rabbit by its toe OR Eeenie meenie miney mo catch a tiger by its toe? Tiger 10. Hehe or Teehee? Definitely hehe, because teehee sounds a lil too Justin Bieber AKA pre-teen 11. How violent are your sneezes? (the quiet kinds that no one hears or the ones that interrupt people in the middle of their sentence and cause them to stare at you/walk away/both or something in the middle) I avoid sneezing at all costs because it is the opposite of quiet. It is so loud and booming that it almost sounds like a cough! 12. Which colors luckiest: red or green? Hmm, red is for lucky "red letter day" and green is for "money," but it also represents "envy." I'll say red--it's a power color! 13. Are you still bored? :p Nah |

Hmmm... "healthy" packaged foods are hard to come by, so I'll define healthy as "something comprised of 4 or less ingredients." Larabars and "all-natural" Tribe hummus comes to mind. Eden also has some good stuff. Happy hunting =) |

I had 2 wisdom teeth removed a month ago and it was very quick and painless. I made the mistake of jumping into exercise too quickly. I can tell you one thing: Do NOT exercise within the first 5-7 days if you can help it. On day 4 I thought I was good to go and hit the gym. However, I had to leave a body pump class because I started to feel woozy, light headed, and nauseous. It felt like there was a heart beat in my head/mouth. Perhaps leap-frog wasn't the best idea? =) If you must exercise early on in the healing process, do something that doesn't involve a lot of bouncing. Low impact would be a good idea until you're healed up! |

Yup, the towel serves a dual purpose! A magazine works just fine, too ;) I can also relate to keeping the time covered...out of sight, out of mind! I need to watch something to keep myself distracted...otherwise those last few minutes seem like an eternity! |

| Foods | protein shake & losing weight? | Sep 27 2010 01:21 (UTC) |

I've done the protein shake thing before with a program called the Velocity Diet. I was cutting weight last Halloween for my Jessica Rabbit costume. =) By day 3 of only shakes, I was ready to eat anything just as long as it was solid! It was weird... I found myself fantasizing about broccoli and other not so sexy things. It definitely gave results (I also incorporated weight training and cardio) but I'd recommend including solid food in your diet, as well. For the "light" version of the protein shake plan, drink shakes for breakfast, lunch, and snacks and have a sensible dinner such as chicken breast and a vegetable. Otherwise, it's just no fun! Good luck! |

The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
