The best thing you can do is make sure you get all of your fruits and veggies. If you log your foods on here, you can see in the "analysis" page what vitamins you might be missing in your diet. Fruits & veggies are great for that.

Overall, the healthiest thing anyone can do is stop eating anything packaged and prepare everything from complete scratch. This is obviously impractical for most people, so you should do the best you can towards this.

If you know a certain band (or bands), maybe you could go to pandora.com and create a station for them? I'm not sure how much "indie" they will play, but I listen to somewhat obscure music (at least most of it isn't on the radio) and I can find a lot on pandora.

The OP has had 5 different people respond and only one of those has addressed his question...

I am not a mom, nor do I have a muffin top - I wear the correct size of pants. I just thought it was rude.

Christmas Day a la Nomo

I'm trying to fathom the concept of a Christmas where a family gathering goes according to a pre-defined schedule.  We have at least three separate gatherings every year, and they NEVER wind up the same way, and certainly never as planned.

Yeah, our schedule goes something like this:

xmas eve:

- my dad's family (usually at my aunt's house now)

- my boyfriend's immediate family at his parents house (best time for presents Wink)

- my friend's parents' house (they have a big party)

xmas day:

- my parents' house for immediate-family gifts

- my uncle's house for an early dinner (we've always eaten around 3 on xmas)

- my boyfriend's mom's family (location changes) for another dinner.

It's AUGUST!!!

How can you even think about Christmas???

I was in Hobby Lobby the other day, buying some bandanas for my dogs(god, I am lame) and they had all their christmas stuff up!  I gotta be honest, I long for christmas...I am sick of the heat.

ewwww I'm not a huge fan of the heat but anything beats that four letter word (the one that starts with an s). Nothing I hate more than the shoveling, brushing off the car, not parking on the street, bundling up, brushing off the car, shoveling, driving when I don't know if I'm still on the road, waking up early to shovel, shoveling, driving, shoveling, and brushing off the damn car. I'm enjoying the summer where all I have to do is mow my tiny yard once in a while.

 Yeeeah...we get 1-2 inches of snow every 5-10 years.  I don't own a shovel

Then shut up, you don't know what you're talking about.

seriously. There are days we get 1-2 inches every 5-10 minutes. I don't think I could stand the heat of a snowless climate though. I just want to move away from the lake-effect snow :\

Nothing is going to be healthier than eating real food. Every one of those types of things say that you still have to eat right and exercise, so why can't you just do that without giving them your money? That's all that they want.

^ good stuff

Also, if you're buying fresh fruit/veggies, the stuff that is in season is ALWAYS cheaper. Stuff that can be grown locally is usually cheaper even if you don't have a farmer's market.

"convenient" healthy foods are going to be more expensive. If you have the time/energy/patience/etc, the more you can make from scratch will be healthier and cheaper. I still have to buy convenient foods because I don't have time to cook that much! But I usually cook/prepare dinner each night (it's the lunch & breakfast that get me)

I'm sure everyone will agree with me: there are no quick fixes. Eating right and exercising, calorie deficit = weight loss & healthiness. weight loss miracles = bull.

Eating: I let myself indulge a little more during that time. Every month on day #1, I go to dollar general and get myself 1 milk chocolate lindt truffle. They're so tasty and one totally satisfies my i-need-chocolate-ness. If I need some salty, I'll eat a portion of baked chips or pretzels or something like that. As long as I'm still logging everything, I never feel the need to eat a ton, just certain foods.

Working out: It's tough, but I remind myself how much better I feel after working out. Getting up and moving is the best medicine for cramps AND bloating. (well, that and drinking water!)

Every workplace should come with an inflatable slide for this very reason.

I'm pretty sure that I just said yesterday, if my job had an inflatable slide and beer, I would probably wind up doing the same thing one day. People are so annoying. I've only ever quit 1 job (burger king), others just ended (like my 'student' job in college). Hopefully I can manage a good one when I finally find a new job...

Ugh work food. I was JUST told we're having cake at 10 for someone's birthday. Ever since I've been counting calories I haven't had any birthday cake though. Just my own birthday (which pissed me off because it wasn't ON my birthday and I felt like it was wrong to turn down cake that was specifically for me grrrrrr) and on another dieting co-worker's birthday who got angel food cake and I turned down the cool whip. I'm still kinda pissed that I didn't get angel food cake when they know I'M eating healthy too...

Cake and doughnuts are easy though, it's when people bring in brownies *drool*...

I've never paid someone to dye my hair. $125! holy crap!

Make sure you follow the directions. Read them all before you start, most say to test out a chunk of (cut off) hair for dying time and check your skin sensitivity like a day ahead. I never do that because I don't usually have skin reactions and I don't care.

I agree, vaseline or baby oil on your hairline will save your face from a lot of scrubbing when you miss!

I do the strip-down thing too. I usually will grab a garbage bag (like the regular "tall kitchen" bags) and poke a hole for my head and arms, then I wear it like a armless poncho to protect my shoulders. It's helpful because my hair is long enough to hit my shoulders with dye all over it. I've never really had problems with it hitting the floor though, but I'd move the rug out of the way if you have a bathmat or something. Like everyone else said, if it isn't cloth you can probably wipe it off.

I've only done highlights on myself once and it didn't turn out too awesome. Just a bit chunky, not terrible. If I did it again, I'd probably have someone help me.

I only really ever paint my toes before I go to a wedding. But it stays on there forEver. Right now I'm liking the dark blue. I rarely wear sandles, it's sneakers to work and boots all winter. Sandles only happen when I'm lazy and it's the weekend.

Not a fan of french manicured toes. I think it has to do with never having whites on my toenails, I think it's weird so I keep 'em trimmed. So why would you paint whites onto your toenails?

I don't mind "man" feet, just other people's feet. I think my feet are cute though haha. BF's feet aren't too bad though, just a little hairy hehe.

Wouldn't a sitting elliptical just be an exercise bike?? I'd try logging the calories for that or at least checking what the difference would be, since you'd probably be using up the same amount of calories...
