Motivation going to stop drinking wine. Aug 10 2010

I like wine but I don't drink it much, I'm more of a liquor girl. One of the biggest helpers in my weight loss was when I gave up (most) of my drinking. I still let myself have 1-2 drinks on the weekend. I've since upped that number and let myself have 1 unrestricted drinking night/week. But I'm pretty good about the whole not-eating-when-drinking thing. It helped immensely to save all those extra empty calories.

I've also read that your body metabolizes alcohol differently than carbs/fats/protein. From what I read, if you drink some alcohol, your liver will process that first and store anything else it was supposed to be processing, since it can't store the alcohol calories. Just knowing that that is maybe somewhat true keeps me from eating while I drink!!

The Lounge Any contact lens wearers out there that can give me some advice? Aug 10 2010

I've only ever worn soft contacts, so I'm not in that boat with you. I agree that I forget I'm wearing them most of the time. I have also heard that you can get bi/tri-focal contacts. They're weighted somehow so that when you look down you get the reading glasses part or something. I'm sure your eye doctor could help you out better than we can!

On another note, reading glasses are a pain in the ****! I complained about my eyes being tired after being at the computer all day, so my eye dr suggested wearing them at work. I couldn't ever get used to not looking through them when I looked away though. So I stopped wearing them, they were too annoying. Buut it did get my boss to order me a new monitor ;)

I agree with the leftovers thing. I canNOT eat leftover salmon, but a lot of the times I just don't want to eat the same thing I had for dinner the previous night. I've started to only make enough for leftovers if I really like the food and I've been bringing in soup/salad or stuff to make sandwiches a lot more. Sometimes even just having a pb&j sandwich is way more appealing than the stuff I just had last night. I also hate leftover sandwiches (I can't do the soggy bread), or reheated sandwiches (warm veggies? no thanks), but my bf will always get an extra sandwich at wendy's or a whole sub at subway to eat later - ick!!

In short, I used to do the same thing as you but lately I've mixed it up a bit and I've been eating more normal lunches. It's way better.

  1. I made camping reservations for 9 people earlier in the summer. all of my friends wanted to go. now it's just me and my bf so I had to cancel the $100/night RV and just get a tent site. when I called, I was all ready to keep the reservation if they wanted me to, but then I could hear them in the background bitching and they weren't very nice to me, so I didn't even offer that option. So now I'm pissed at my friends for cancelling and at the campground for being b*tches.
  2. everyone that i work with is an idiot. I've had to answer stupid questions, settle debates between idiots, and now I have to add more crap to programs I hate
  3. I want a new job :(

What's pissing me off today are the f-ing roll over ads that I keep on accidently rolling over, then they lock up my computer while they're loading and I can't get anything done while I sit there staring at my computer waiting for them to catch up to the fact that I've escaped them.

THIS **** INTERNET EXPLORER PIECE OF NON RESPONDING **** NEEDS TO STRAIGHTEN THE HELL UP HOLY ****.

You both need to go get firefox and then get the add on "add blocker plus". It will solve all of your problems.

When people bring stuff to work or if we have cake I just tell myself: I'm not the one that wanted it in the first place! If I'm going to have a treat, it will be something that I was craving in the first place.

Male: BMR = 10×weight + 6.25×height - 5×age + 5
Female: BMR = 10×weight + 6.25×height - 5×age - 161

These equations require the weight in kilograms, the height in centimeters, and the age in years.

Hey, AG, is this all that goes into the phord calculator? Do you happen to know how they add in the extra measurements that make it more accurate? I could throw together a form like the one that disappeared. It wouldn't be as informative unless someone has all of those descriptions that could be copied & pasted in there. I could at least make some kind of substitute while it's down.

Weight Loss Healthy snacks other than fruit? Aug 09 2010

you could try adding some protein/fats to your fruit. Eat some peanut butter on your apple or toss some fruit in yogurt/cottage cheese.

Try out different veggies. celery & pb is good, green pepper slices with ranch is awesome.

nuts are good for a snack and there are so many varieties.

granola bars are good, just watch out for the evil (hfcs) that is in most brands. kashi is one of the few (at least in my store) that doesn't have it. or you can make your own.

Weight Loss Do you log veggies? Aug 09 2010

I've heard that about spicy things too.

Some veggies do have more calories and should be counted. But even for the ones that have barely any cals, I like to log them to add to the nutritional values for the day. I've been really into trying to get my "analysis" page as green as possible.

Also, things like soup could have extra ingredients like butter (or even hfcs if it's a premade thing!). And they probably have a lot of sodium, which you should limit.

I'm pissed that I have to go back to work tomorrow. I've been on vacation and I don't want to go back! wahhh don't make me!Cry

Also, I'm the one who takes back cans/bottles (we have a deposit here) whenever it's full and I go shopping. A little while ago, BF's family was bugging us to get married and he made a deal - if they pay for us to go to ireland (they're taking a trip next year), we'll get married there. So then last week, his parents gave him a crapload of empty bottles to put toward the "ireland fund". And I had to take them back! Annnd when I went, there was chaos in the bottle return room - machines were broken, everything was full, dumb slow people... If they think that that counts as them "paying for" ireland, they are sadly mistaken.

haha glad I got to rant a bit...

I always put in 1/2 or 1 whole banana, some yogurt (whatever I have in the house), and you have to have some kind of liquid (milk/juice) so that the blender works better w/ frozen stuff. Then I add in whatever frozen/fresh berries I have on hand (frozen is better for a thicker consistency).

Protein powder tastes weird but I've only tried the chocolate and I think I'm going to change to chocolate milk as a post-workout drink after this container is gone.

As far as veggies go, you could probably experiment with the stuff that they use in V8 fusion: sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, and beets. I'd like to know how that works out because I might want to try it!

I have a top and shorts from walmart. they were probably around $10 each. You might be able to find something cheaper that isn't specific for working out (like a plain tank top and some basic stretchy shorts/pants).

If you're big-chested, you'll probably want to spend more on a bra though, I think mine was about $40 and I got it from champion online. They have a great selection for bigger sizes (not the kind that just smush the boobs, which doesn't work for big boobs!)

I wash my outfit 1x a week when I do laundry. I'm only wearing it to work out, when I'm going to get smelly anyways, who cares what I smell like when I start?

ANother thing that helps, and that I need to do to keep my bubble butt in shape, is to take the straires, TWO STEPS at a time - do it so it feels like u r really pushing yourself up through your butt. If you feel it, u will know it is working your butt well.

haha I never thought of that, but my bf always takes stairs 2 at a time. he has a very nice butt... never put those two things together but I guess it works! ;)

I am in the exact same boat. I've always been around 160, I'm pretty close now after losing 20lbs but I have about 20 to go to a healthy weight. The lowest I've ever been was 150 so I know that is at least possible. Right now I'm trying to focus on at least having some deficit, while still having fun (aka drinking) and working out. I'm trying to get into more "fun" workouts and I'm focusing on my "analysis" - trying to get everything in the green! Now I'm trying to lose slow and steady because I'm not in any rush to get down to that healthy weight, I just want to do it someday!

Weight Loss new hatred of facebook Aug 06 2010

You do realize that, unless you ARE tagged in a picture, facebook has no way of knowing that you're in it. You might as well be a table. Computers (aside from facial recognition, which still isn't completely accurate anyways) can't tell if a person is in a picture. Facebook is just a computer program, no one looks though pictures unless you flag them as inappropriate.

I agree with the others. I'm not happy with a lot of my pictures on facebook, but they're there and I was having fun. You need to accept how you look now and then commit to changing it if you're really that unhappy with it.

The Lounge AirPlane......SHOOT! Aug 05 2010

I actually just went on my first plane ride(s) this past weekend. Buffalo - Atlanta - Seattle and back. I wasn't too nervous to begin with though, more just worried about security, finding the gate, etc. I had my boyfriend w/ me who has flown a bunch which helped a lot.

I was also worried that my head was going to explode on take off (I'm very sensitive to pressure changes) but it wasn't bad at all, just a lot of jaw movements and I was fine.

I think the weirdest thing was takeoff/landing and that wasn't too bad. There is less motion than in a car so if you don't get car sick, I don't think you'd get plane-sick either unless all you do is think about how terrible it is. The turbulence (at least the stuff we hit) wasn't any worse than a bumpy road. I was in the window seat 2 of the flights and you don't really feel like it's real. When you look out the window it's hard to believe that you're that high up. It's also good that it's august so you don't have to worry about snow or anything.

Stop worrying, you'll be fine.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
