Fitness Snacking before working out -- need suggestions May 30 2008

I have this problem too--I go to the gym after work, but it's been a long time since I've had lunch so I'm usually too hungry to get a good work out.  What I usually do is for high cardio (running) I eat something that won't make my stomach cramp up, like a banana or juice. If I'm lifting weights or doing some other cardio (like the elliptical) I'll eat heavier things like bread b/c I know that it won't give me a cramp. Try experimenting a bit b/c your body is different than mine and don't feel bad about eating (healthily) before working out.  I find that my work outs are much better and longer if my stomach isn't growling.

Vegetarian Cooking for a meat-eater - any suggestions? Nov 12 2007

I'm in the opposite boat--I'm the meat eater and my boyfriend is the vegetarian.  However, he's a great cook and I don't miss the meat when he makes food.  He's indian, so it's alot of indian recipes, which are mostly vegetarian anyway (search for Indian recipes, you'll get a ton).  I also introduced him to tofu, which he liked alot.  I just made a stirfry and crumbled it up--he didn't even know it was there!  He's fed me those Boca Burger and Morning Star and I like them too.  I did not like Tofu hot dogs b/c they were too rubbery for me.  There's also this soy chicken substitute they sell in Asian markets which is sooo good.  I think it's just called Soy Chicken and it's usually in the section where they sell tofu, no packaging, just styrofoam wrapped in plastic.  I just slice it up, cook it with edamame, mushroom, and celery, some soysauce, and it's done.  I've learned to love vegetarian and I'm sure your boyfriend will too since he's willing to try.

Good luck!

I hated salad until I got to college and I learned to love the stuff.  I agree with other people, start with things you like to eat--brocccoli, peas, corn, mushrooms, green peppers...a salad isn't just iceberg lettuce and tomatoes!

Oh yes, I'm in.  This is the worst time for me b/c it's cold and I just want to stay in bed and eat hot toasty bread.  My problem is that since it's the holidays, my office usually has treats and stuff laying around on a daily basis.  I haven't been able to withstand it so far since--1. it's free and i'm a poor grad student, 2.  it's so gooood.  As for eating when I get home...try brushing your teeth and use that listerine stuff--your teeth feel so clean you won't want to eat and ruin that clean taste in your mouth.

No I haven't...but I usually don't have stomach problems. Did your stomach feel kind of like mine and did it help when you took probiotics?

Thanks~

i know that when I first started running or doing anything that required alot of movement, i was itchy too.  after a few days of doing the same activity, the itching went away b/c i think my body for used to the movement.  my mom says that the itching is b/c all my flubber isn't used to being moved around so much, and I kind of believe her ;P

i had pizza i made last night (no cheese) for breakfast today that was about 600 calories.  eating more in the morning helps me better than a light breakfast b/c i tend to not eat as much later on the day, but i know some people who literally feel sick if they have to much to eat.  so if it works for you...have the muffin.

You could take a pita bread and bake it in the oven until it's crisp, and then break it up into chips.  I like mine dipped in hummus!

I've never tried to cook an egg in the microwave, but I know people tha thave and really like it.  First, do NOT place an egg in the microwave with the shell or else it will explode.  I think the same is true for baking it.  I found this online:

http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/Microwave Eggs.htm

telling you how to microwave an egg.  Use a microwave safe container and place eggs in it with whatever else you may like such as cheese (low fat!) or salt.  I don't think you need butter or oil, unlesss you want butter.  Using the appropriate dish to cook it in shoudl make sure it won't stick.

I know!  I'm so glad someone else is thinking about this--I almost screamed at my tv when it ended.  i think it's a three parter...and doesn't someone die in all the three part episodes?  First that bomb guy, then denny...

the girl reminds me of dakota fanning...who scares me in her own way.
Motivation for those of us with less than 15 lbs to lose... Feb 08 2007

oh I understand completly!  I have the last 10 to lose and no matter how much I do I can't get them off.  I'm waiting for the warm weather to come so I can start running again (I lost all my 15 pds by doing this last summer), but until then I'm just trying to maintain.  I would recommend toning up.  I just started so I'm not sure if it works or not, but I heard that by increasing your lean muscle mass, you burn more calories b/c muscles burns more than fat.  And you LOOK thinner b/c you don't have all that jelly wiggling.

Good luck and just keep it up.  Even if it's slow, it's still weight loss.
