You should definitely keep eating the increased amount because it is much better for your body and will help to give you energy to workout more. And as to the flat stomach this is not something you get from weight loss unless you emaciate yourself have you tried actually doing stomach excersizes? Building abs especially the deeper muscles is the only way to get a perfectly flat stomach. Its almost impossible to build any muscles on 1000 cals a day though so as i said keep eating. |

Louisevineeta: You have most definitely not actually gained two pounds its just that throughout the day you have eaten food and drunk liquids that stay in your body and make you heavier. Its like getting one the scales and weighing x then drinking a glass of water getting back on and saying omg i gained weight. then you go to the bathroom and get back on surprise surprise you've lost... Your metabolism is probably just fine. try not o weigh yourself too frequently once or twice a week is fine. not at all is better or only with your dr or parents.
Nambs: Obviously its better if you just eat lots all the time but I know personaly thats much easier said than done. I have done exactly what you do to varying degrees for a long time now. When i first started recovering (3years ago:( ) I would have to eat at home but then would eat nothing at school all day, so i wouldnt be getting very many calories in over the week but would have to eat tonnes on weekends when i was at home. It did not affect my metabolism at all, when i actually decided to gain weight i had to eat well over 4000 a day, so there is absolutely no need to worry your metabolism is king to be slow, in my experience the human body is very adaptable but then everyone is different. I think its best to just eat as much as you can make yourself all the time so if that means going crazy and eating lots sometimes then do that because you won't always feel so motivated so you should make the most of it when you do feel good. as you recover you will have more good days then bad. As to the body image issues I know exactly how you feel i managed to gain weight for about 6months but i felt so fat and awful that i ended up cutting back and losing most of it although i didn't get anywhere near as bad as my original low weight. I wish now i had just kept the weight on because its so much easier to maintain than to gain. I think what you need to accept and what i am just beginning to is that no one wants to make you fat or to hurt you your parents only have your best interests in mind and while we can't see that we need to just stop thinking accept we are not thinking straight and roboticallly do what were told. you won't get better until you decide its what you want to do, no one else can recover for us but try and take they're help while they are still offering because eventually everyone gets sick and tired or banging their head against the brick wall that is you ED and they give up and then its very very difficult to get your life back.trust me you can make this a short 6 month thing that everyone forgets about in a couple of years or you can choose to turn it into something that defines the rest of your life, and try and see that that is a choice you make. To have anorexia proves you are capable of doing something when you put your mind to it no matter how uncomfortable it is, so put all that inner strength to good use and use it to beat this thing completely! I hope this helps sorry its a bit long.

| Weight Gain | 2500 calories and gained 2 pounds?! AAHHH?! | Mar 30 2012 22:39 (UTC) |

NO! Do not fret this is absolutely not right. I had this happen to me once as well i thought i gained 1.5kg in a day but its just normal fluctuations of food in your tummy and hydration and everything else. This is why people say not to weigh yourself everyday because the number can change for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I know it's super hard to ignore a weight gain especially when in recovery but try to keep the calories up at 2500 and try not to weigh yourself to frequently if at all. I would suggest setting one day a week that you weigh yourself and making sure you only have access to scales on that day. Seeing the number fluctuate daily can be very triggering i found. |

| I dont know if it's the same thing but I have this problem along with bruising really easily. I went to the doctor and they sent me for blood tests it turned out I was lacking in vitamin k because it is a fat soluble vitamin so I wasn't absorbing it. Vitamin k is what makes your blood thick so without it your blood is very thin and you will bleed a lot and bruise easily. Its probably worth getting it checked because without vitamin k your bones can get very brittle and you will be at risk of osteoporosis. Are you quite pale because I can't really remember how but a lack of vitamin d was also a contributing factor. Maybe try eating some foods high in vitamin k, it's mostly in dark green leafy vegetable like baby spinach and kale, but as I said if your bodies not absorbing it eating more of it probably won't help. I don't know if this is even applicable to you but it could be what the problem is basically what my doctor explained to me was that most people have a base level of vitamins in there body built up over years but when you starve yourself you deplete all these reserves and then it's really hard to build all of them up which causes all sorts of problems most people would never experience even if they had a very unnutritious diet. | |||

I was worried about this too when i startedtrying to gain, but what you have to remeber is that you are eating more than the average person so you have to have servings of everything then the average person too, otherwise there is no way you could reah your calorie guide lines. I find that i eat 2 seves of fruit a meal rather than three a day. |

I had this exact same problem! I did end up having to use laxatives once to just get everything out and then start again, I found that taking fiber supplements like metamucil really helped and drinking cloudy applejuice, neither of these fill you up but they give you lots of fibre. i understand why you are reluctant to use laxatives but it might be agood idea to just use them to " clear the blockage"ahem* |

My GP ( who knew nothing about ed's) told me to go get chinese takeaway! and my aunty told me to just eat fruit and vergetables! I told her that was what got me this way in the first place! Once my teacher actually got my mum in trouble when she told her she had made me eat cheesecake at midnight to get my calories up because i wasfitting in my sleep! she said i should have a nice healthy salad instead! |

I felt the same thing because when ever people ask me how things are going and how much i am eating they are always like o you really should try to get more "good calories" but the truth is you just can't get enough in only eating healthy foods. As long as you are eating some nutrious foods and then bulking up the meals with things like chocolate and desserts your doing great! I always try to have at least one nutrious food per meal. and then i add things like ice creams that still have dairy and protein and calcium but are high cal. Don't feel bad eating dessert comes with recovery! just enjoy it. |

Don't worry about gaining too fast, your body will slow down with time. It is just because you have completely devasted your glycogen stores through out your body through estricting. My dietician explained to me that in the beggining alot of the weight that you gain i actually just the water going back into you muscles and not genuine weight. Do Not start restricting again as tempting as it may be because it will just mean you have more weight to put on next time you start gaining! try to keep positive and remember the faster you put on the weight the faster you can get back to being a happy healthy person! and the less ongoing medical problems you will have! |

| Weight Gain | how many calories are you eating to recover from anorexia? | Jan 11 2010 07:56 (UTC) |

I would say that you are safe when it comes to refeeding syndrome, This only occurs after severe restriction when you suddenly increase calories by a substantial amount, say going from 200-1000 a day to 2500. The symptoms you describe sound more like symptoms of anorexia, especially the hair falling out and cold hands. You may be finding it hard to gain weight because you are not eating enough for what your body needs to reapair itself after the trauma its been through. I have found that i need between 4000-4500 to gain weight. I also found that in the begging i was constantly hungry even when eating, Its just your bodies way of telling you that you should keep on eating and not continue to starve yourself. You may want to check that you are actually eating as much as you say you are, I found writing down everything i ate with exact calorie amount was a good way to keep track. Most recovering ed's over estimate how much they eat. Keepon trying! |
