Weight Gain How do I accept weight gain ? Jun 13 2011

Hey annabel95, I'm really sorry that you are going through this. I have been there. Several times and I just have to tell you that being recovered is worth every second of pain and frustration during recovery.  Reading over your post, I think there are a few things that you should think about....

A. There is a thing called skin that everybody has. I know for a fact that there is a lot of skin on me that I can "grab onto" and it's not fat! At your weight, it definitly is NOT.

B. In case you haven't already noticed, everyone is probably ALREADY looking at you because your BMI is so obviously in the unhealthy range. I think most people would be glad to see you take your life into your own hands, go to the hospital and get better! If it changes the way they look at you it will only be because they will look at your with admiration.

C. It sounds like you are making a lot of excuses. You can do this! You can. The question is not can you, but do you want to?

Yes, definitly find your school's therapy center. Almost all colleges have them I got free therapy when I relapsed into anorexia while I was at school and it helped tremendously. For me, however, the anxiety got better but just would not go away until I got on Prozac. That is a freaking miracle drug by the way. I'm not saying go straight to drugs though. You need to figure out WHY you feel this way first. So go get some therapy sessions going and if things don't improve, think about seeing a psychiatrist.  For me, that was the only way to live a normal life again :-)

Weight Loss Why do i keep snacking? Jun 08 2011

I second ilovejj909 on the gum. That's what I use because I work at a barbeque restauraunt and we always have leftovers from catering orders sitting in the break room for us...it's tough! So i chew all sorts of flavors of gum dessersts like chocolate mint and strawberry shortcake and good old winterfresh when I'm really craving stuff. I find that winterfresh makes other stuff taste bad even if i spit it out so that really helps.

They look like they'd be uncomfortable but surprisingly they are not! I love mine! I always had knee pain after running and it has disapeared with these shoes. I do think that someone should mention however, that you have to break yourself into these shoes slowly.  I made that mistake myself and injured a tendon in my foot (I went out for a 10 mile run on the second day i had them...lol oops...little excited) and i was out for two weeks while it healed. So take it slow, but you will love them!

We've all been where you are...it's hard to make the choice to say goodbye to an ED. Something my husband used to always say to me that helped me get through and keep going with recovery.

"You can do it today, or you can do it tomorrow...but either way you have to do it."

Putting it off only makes it that much harder. It's hard, but not has hard as dying and saying goodbye to all those you love.

You guys are all so wonderful! LOL i was laughing out loud reading the replies..Thankyou! I needed that. My hubby signed an eight year contract with the field so he will be on for three weeks and off for one week. He says he will come home as much as we can afford during the week off so it shouldn't be too miserabloe. I feel better already just reading your advice. I took the advice and called up my friend to go workout and get some tea after. Nice night:-) Thanks again guys!

Weight Loss overestimating exercise burn? May 24 2011

I have the bodybugg and am an exercise physiology major. I wore it and three different heart rate monitors while doing four seperate VO2 max tests on different days.  The computers we have at school are the most accurate out there. And my true calorie burn was closest to the bodybugg's estimate.  All three heart rate monitors overestimated my burn my almost 50%!

I love eating the skins :-) I think that they're tasty. But if you don't like em don't eat em. And if you're worried about pesticides i'd second sammycs and buy organic ones.

For anyone else looking at this post and trying to decide on whether or not to get the IUD. i have now had the copper Iud for a year next month and I am loving it. No problems, whatsoever. Not even the heavy bleeding that people told me to expect.  Seems like it was the right choice for me i guess :-) If you have any questions feel free to message me :-)

Fitness flabby thighs or is it excess skin? Mar 23 2011

Unless you have lost over 25lbs. recently, you shouldn't have any "loose" skin. People don't usually have that normally, its more from large weight losses.

Kated45 yes I looked up the arm implant but decided against it because it releases hormones into your blood stream. As I said before I am trying to avoid any kind of hormone b/c because i haven't done well on it in the past.  I also had a friend get one put in and after watching that...yuck and ouch. I would never get one!

mslatina89 i don't know where you are getting your information but there is no way that the copper IUD can make you gain weight.  "research" isn't just looking on forums to read what other people have said it's also going to the product website and finding the actual studies they have done. When you look at those you can better tell plausible side effects. The Mirena CAN cause weight gain but it is highly unlikely since the dose of hormones is small and is localized to the uterus; you have to be really sensitive to it.  The Copper does not release any hormones, the copper in itself acts as a spermicide and makes the uterus a hostile place for an egg to implant so that pregnancy is unlikely.  I have had the IUD for almost a year now and no weight gain! No problems, very very happy with it. :-)

It was raining and I was biking tucking my head down to keep my eyes clear from the rain I biked right into one of those 5 ft. wide orange square construction signs. Good thing I had a helmet on...that concrete is HARD!

Weight Gain How do you all manage to stay so strong and fight your ED thoughts? Feb 09 2011
18:00 (UTC)

The key is patience. It's exhausting to be constantly counting calories and it is just as exhausting to be constantly fighting the urge to count calories. You're gonna be tired either way.  Just take my word for it that it WILL go away with time. I'm hitting my 2 year mark since what I consider to be the "end" of my ED, and am FINALLY (like within the past two months) at the point where i don't automatically count calories in my head. I don't even know what how much i've eaten by the end of every day and it is a really wonderful feeling. You can get there too! But not by calling yourself an "idiot" and being hateful towards yourself. You aren't weak, dumb, or out of control, it's just normal to continue with habits that you have established for a long time.

What I would suggest is this, don't fight the calorie counting if your mind is going there, let it go there but just don't give in physically. Eat the 300 calorie muffin, except that it was 300 calories, do some deep breathing and try your best to move on.

Another thing that I used to do would be just focus on having ONE meal where you don't count each day. For example i would fill a bowl with yogurt sometimes LITERALLY closing my eyes as i did and pour cereal all over it and not use any measuring cups or anything like that. It's hard to know how much you are eating when you do that and maybe follow it up with a couple spoonfuls of pb or something. Of course, if this freaks you out just work up to it...it's just something that worked for me. Good luck! And overall just remember to be kind to yourself and have patience...2 years is a long time. But it's definitely worth it.

Foods Ex-Vegetarians! Jan 14 2011

I started eating meat after 8 year of vegetarianism when I got into bodybuilding and egg whites and whey protein were just making me sick ( i had to eat like 20 egg whites a day at one time! lol) Anyways, I slowly switched to fish, then white meat, then red meat over the course of 2 years. Originally it did make me a little sick but it was more in my head like, "oh i can't believe i'm eating this gag gag" type thing. Not truly sick to my stomach.

Weight Loss Going clubbing... Jan 04 2011
05:33 (UTC)

I love to go clubbing and I think it only becomes unhealty if you are drinking over your caloric allowance and it is interfering with sleep constantly. Missing one or two nights of good sleep a month isn't going to affect you too much. Besides you say you usually sleep at least 7 hours after a night out which is more than I get on a regular basis unfortunatly! haha! So I think that you are good.

As aaron said, it's good to dosomething fun for yourself, kind of a reward after working so hard all week. And a reward that doesn't involve chocolate cake or binging on cookies! Hey! What's bad about that?

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
