| Fitness | Elliptical; isn't it suppose to be gentle on knees? | Jan 10 2012 17:49 (UTC) |

I have noticed that when I use the elliptical at my apartment complex's fitness room it just isn't as good of a machine as I would have liked. Perhaps the machine you used isn't as high quality, sometimes the lower quality machines do little to reduce the impact on your knees. Sometimes when I'm using my own elliptical at home I realize that I'm uncomfortable and it's because I'm not using proper form. Sometimes when I'm fatigued I find myself not moving my legs in a fluid motion which puts pressure on my knees. I guess you could check yourself for proper form ensuring that your not slamming down on the elliptical foot beds, but moving in a smooth motion. |

I have the opposite problem, I used to be 270lbs and had a fairly nice sized chest, but now that Im 187lbs my chest is flat. It's ridiculous because when I went to get measured I was a 40AA, I couldn't find anyone that sold a bra so small in cup size but large in strap except for a mastectomy bra or a bra for transgenders. My solution has been living off of sports bras. I'm not trying to make you feel like your situation isn't so bad, only trying to express my mutual frustration with my "girls" up top. Boobs can be such a pain... |

I always save roughly 100-200 cals incase I need a snack at night. My favorite is 1cup almond breeze (I can't drink milk) and 1cup cheerios = 160 cals total. Another snack I enjoy is a little bit of popcorn or 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter on a banana. |

| Weight Loss | How do i motivate myself to get back in the gym | Jan 09 2012 19:17 (UTC) |

I am not in the exact same position as I have a lot more weight to lose, but... I used to go to the gym pretty frequently when I began trying to lose weight. Last January I began mixed martial arts with an emphasis on muay thai roughly three nights a week, sometimes more. I wound up losing thirty lbs during a weight loss competition where I train, but now my weight loss has begun to slow and I also have a difficult time finding the motivation to go to the gym on top of the mma classes, and elliptical that I use every morning. I made a deal with myself that if I go to the gym three times a week I could buy a new nail polish every weekend. Obviously you probably don't want nail polish but maybe you can think of a similarly priced small reward to keep you motivated throughout the week. |

| Weight Loss | What is the whole "net calorie" thing? | Jan 07 2012 16:35 (UTC) |
4 |
|
I could be wrong, but I always just assumed it was the amount of calories that resulted from the total I ate subtracted from the total I burned. So if I ate 1500 cals and burned 2500 my net calories would be -1000 because its a total loss of 1000 cals. But if I burned 1500 and ate 2500 it would be a net of 1000 because I have put in 1000 cals more than I burned.
Like I said I'm not sure if this is right or not so hopefully someone will come along and correct me. |

I am not anorexic, but I do have an eating disorder, I am overweight and have been my entire life. I like you, also have had difficulties with being shy and have struggled to make or retain friendships. At this point I only really have one true friend and that is my boyfriend. Sometimes I feel the same way as you, that even if I recover and reach my goal weight, to what end? I will still be lonely and alone... but I realize that this is simply another facet of my problem. As I am battling with my own eating problems I am trying desperately to battle with my social problems as well. I am going to a new college and have begun to make small changes in my behaviors around other people, just as I have made small changes to my diet. I have begun to talk to people and while I wouldn't call them "friends" I have made a few acquaintances. I also attend a martial arts class a few nights a week and have made "acquaintances" there as well. I consider these small victories that will hopefully one day allow me to develop healthy relationships with others. I can also relate to how you feel about your sisters. I have two younger sisters both of which are fairly healthy and very outgoing cheerleader and soccer stars. I love hanging out with them, but I feel they are often too busy for me. I wish sometimes that they would be around more, but I know that they have their own lives to live. My youngest sister Erica is going away to college next year and I'm dreading it, but I won't let her know that. I don't want her to feel she needs to stay on my behave as I know that isn't fair. But sometimes I do wish that I was more outgoing like my sisters. Anyways as Geo said, I believe it is a sign that you survived even though your body was at such a low weight. I think it would be helpful for you to talk to someone, have you considered seeking out a therapist? I see one for cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt) and it has helped me so much. If you want to talk just pm me. |

my boyfriend and I skate all the time. I'm assuming you've tried googling skate shops in your area, my only other suggestion is finding a shop thats a bit out of your area that you could make a day trip to. Or just finding something on the internet with a good return policy incase they don't workout. |

I like a cup of cheerios and a cup of almond breeze because I'm lactose intolerant. Or sometimes if I haven't had enough calories and I'm craving something sweet I have a tablespoon of peanut butter. |

I don't live on campus but when I go out with family and friends I do one of two things. I either make a healthy choice like grilled chicken and vegetables, or a salad. Or I order what I want... but I ask for a box when they bring the meal. As soon as my meal comes I put half of everything in the box. That at least cuts out half of the calories. I then take my time eating the remainder of the food on my plate and enjoy every second of it. As for exercise I either go to the gym (sometimes with a friend) or I do an exercise tape In my room. As for what others have done that actually live on campus, many of my friends go to the schools gym and really enjoy that, and they like myself do fitness tapes in their dorms. |

| Health & Support | Cravings? | Jan 04 2012 13:20 (UTC) |

One thing I did to help not binge on the chocolate is I bought really expensive chocolate, like Godiva. I keep it up high on top of my kitchen cabinets so if I want it I need to bring a chair over. I can have a piece every day if I want, but I keep in mind how expensive it is so I'm not tempted to eat it all in one sitting. If I'm craving chocolate, I have a piece and I eat it slowly savoring the flavor. That usually does the trick for me. As for cheese and bread I try to buy healthier options of both like whole wheat and nonfat. I measure out a serving and eat that serving when I'm craving it. If I don't have bread, cheese, and chocolate in my diet for any extended period of time I feel really deprived and end up binging on it later. |

I am thai, my mom is from Thailand and we are both overweight, although I am much larger than she is. So that just goes to show that there are plenty of large thai women... but seriously the majority of thai foods are vegetable or fish based and when eating rice they do not fill up their plates, instead they eat maybe 1/4 a cup. |

Personally I eat whatever I want. I don't want to feel deprived because when I do that I binge. But I do ensure that whatever I eat be it fresh fruit, or a pice of chocolate, that I log the calories and try to stay within the proper range of calories for me each day. I wouldn't stress about babybel cheese, personally I love cheese of any kind. I try to eat it in moderation though because of my cholesterol. |

We make turkey taco salad a lot. Usually we buy a whole bunch of taco seasoning when its on sale, even not on sale it usually runs about a dollar. Or you can mix your own spices if you want. We usually already have lettuce and cheese in the fridge and all we need to buy is the lean turkey meat which normally runs under $5. Then I put a bed of lettuce down and sprinkle the cooked turkey meat on top with a small amount of cheese and salsa or taco or hot sauce if you want. |

A few years ago I was looking into the surgery. I was 270lbs and felt that losing weight on my own was hopeless. I ended up having a back injury that required surgery and after recovering from that operation I realized that I really didn't want to have any more invasive procedures if I could help it. So as I recovered I began using CC and lost roughly 90lbs, although I have found myself yoyoing a bit over the years. Currently I'm 192lbs and am determined to shed the rest of this weight. Gastric bypass is an option and I do know two people that have had it done and were thankful for the procedure. But I'm presonally glad that I didn't and I feel great knowing that I was capable of losing weight without any invasive procedures. That being said there is nothing wrong with choosing to get this done, and it can be very helpful for those individuals that need that extra push towards a healthier lifestyle. |
