Hi everyone,

I'm so excited to be apart of this group and I know it will be an excellent motivator for me.  I am a 20 year old college student that pulls straight A's, is a nanny for two families, and volunteers for a cat shelter so it's hard for me to find the time and effort to stick with losing weight.  I have struggled with my weight since I was in preschool.  Last year I had back surgery and realized that I needed to tackle my weight once and for all or I would be doomed to more medical problems in the future.  Since November I went from 270lbs to 215 and I did it the healthy way.  After years of Jenny Craige, Weight Watchers, three summers of "fat camps" and various other fad diets I never thought I could make it this far and I need to keep going.

Recently I have been slacking a bit on actually counting my calories (I have just been keeping score in my mind which has proven to be not as accurate as I thought it was) so this past week I have been trying to log everything I eat.  I also have been working really hard to get enough water every day as I nearly fainted twice from dehydration while excercising.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and to continuing my weight loss journey.

I just wanted to say that I find myself scared to post at times because I fear I will be ridiculed or someone will respond harshly to me.  I thought the OP had a point that the show shouldn't promote such unhealthy weight loss.  Although I don't agree with everything said such as the age issue, as I read I felt some of the responses to the OP strayed far from the topic she had originally planned for and were a bit rude.  I don't want any drama I just thought a few of the responses could have been phrased a bit more nicely.  I just don't think people need to be so confrontational, if you disagree I'm sure there are more polite ways to phrase your opinions.

don't panic about those noodles, I doubt they will hurt you in the long run as I doubt they had anywhere near enough calories to make you gain even one pound.  Just work on your speach and tomorrow is a new day don't punish yourself just move ahaid eating healthy.  If you stress it you are more likely to binge again and you don't want that plus it may make you nervous for the speech.

I am frugal, and while I've tried for spurts of time to bring bag lunches to campus every day, I have since realized that I am never going to be organized enough to do it on a regular basis.

I too am frugal and disorganized.  I understand how conflicting these two traits can be but it would do you well to let your frugality win in this little battle.  Adding a little organization and packing your lunches as gi-jane said will save you money and of course allow you to control what your eating.  I know how hard it is getting in the habit of packing your own lunches but lets face it its hard to pick up any new habit.  Once you get into a routine of packing your lunch it wont seem like a hassle anymore.  This could take you a few weeks or even months to establish a real routine but it will save you so much money and allow you to eat what you want while remaining most importantly healthy.  Also it allows you the opportunity to pack snacks and such I love having snacks handy so I can avoid binging throughout the day if I get hungry.

i agree and quite a few people are saying that it may be for attention but i was just wondering what attention

we went to an all girls school so it cant have been from boys

I went to an all girls school and I remember a few friends of mine and I used to say we were bi, we really thought it too.  Now all but one of us are straight guess we grew out of it and one is a lesbian.  We all enjoyed the attention we would get from being a hot gossip topic  because all the other girls would talk about us, and when we would go to coed dances with the all boy school they all gave us attention but of course it was the wrong sort of attention.  Anyhoo, it is never too young to have those feelings, but feelings can change overtime and a person that thinks they are bi may turn out to be bi, straight, or lesbian.

Theres nothing wrong with wanting to look better.  When it becomes wrong is when you 1) go about looking better in an unhealthy way or 2) have a distorted view on what looks better and the end result is brings you back to step 1) going back to losing weight in an unhealthy way.

Congrats Dac250, I know how exciting that is.  I too just recently fit into a size 18 pants and was so happy to be out of size 20's.  I actually hadn't bought any new clothes since I started eating healthy back in  November so I went from a size 28 to a size 18!  Keep up the good work everyone and have a great week.

I almost fainted yesterday from dehydration because I excercised early in the morning before I had drank enough water so I'm assuming most of this weeks weight loss is due to the dehydration unfortunatly.

I just wanted to post a little warning about drinking lots of water.  I always drink a lot of water but in keeping with the spirit of this competition I thought it only fair that I up the ammount I ussually drink just a bit.  I experienced muscle cramps and twitches and just now almost fainted twice after a bike ride and had to have my grandpa who is also a doctor pick me up from the bike trail because I could hardly walk without blacking out.  Turns out upping your water dilutes your electrolights or something along those lines according to my grandpa.  So he says make sure if you are experiencing any of those symptoms to drink some gatorade or up your sodium a bit to help.

personally I find the longer that I count my calories the less I really need to officially write them down.  By now I have practicly memorized calories in all the foods I eat on a weekly basis and know when I am going overboard even without doing the math.  Also I tend to pay more attention to portion control and making healthier choices instead of counting my calories religiously and it seems to be working for me just fine.

I agree with gi-jane, removing the cookies from your environment is the first step and should help you a lot.  I have a few foods like that and I just have to keep them out of my home.  When I do want them I make sure they fit into my calories and then I go out to buy that one item and only that one item.  So if I wanted a cookie I would probably walk to my grocery store and purchase one cookie from the bakery section and enjoy it but I wouldnt buy an entire pack if I knew I would be obsessing over it.  There are plenty of other places that sells just one cookie, I know McDonalds does.  Anyways I try not to exclude these foods from my diet I only try to exclude them from my environment.  That way I have time to think, do I really want that cookie? and if the answer is yes make room for it in my calories and go out and get it.

I'm sorry to hear all that Kthompson, that sounds very stressful.  But good to see that you seem to have picked yourself up and are moving in the right direction.  A garden is a great way to relax and planting it is hard work I'm sure you will burn a ton of calories that day.  I hope this week goes better then the last I will be sending you lots of positive thoughts.

Weight Loss Why is there such an urge to snack when home alone? May 13 2009

I also do it because of boredom.  And I agree with everyone else that keeping busy, but especially keeping my hands busy helps to fight off the urge to eat.  Typing at the computer works for me but only if I'm constantly typing.  I picked up knitting so I could keep my hands busy, also drawing, or any other craft helps.  cleaning the house helps me as well.  If you really are hungry try making something low in calories that will take you a while to eat.  I make either veggies, or 100 cal bags of popcorn.  I eat it one piece at a time and sip water inbetween bites.  I also have tried the lollipop trick but mostly do that if I am away from home with no healthy snacks on hand.  I try to lick it though instead of suck so it takes a lot longer.
