| Recipes | Low calorie homemade pasta. Anyone have a good recipe ? | Nov 18 2010 05:13 (UTC) |

If it's low calorie it isn't pasta. Pasta is essentially flour and flour is very calorie dense. I'd suggest finding a healthy whole grain pasta, making your favourite sauce and just eating less. It doesn't have to be the centre of your meal, just a side dish. Quite a healthy meal along with 2 or 3 vegetables. |

I find the easiest thing to use is a word processor. Most of the recipes I use I copy and paste off the net and then as I do my own modifications to make them healthier I just make the adjustments to the document. Not the prettiest thing, but simple to use and easy to modify. |

I usually can up some applesauce at this time of year when they are in season and cheaper. I usually buy 3-5 varieties of apples, including always granny smiths for a little tartness and I cook mine by coring and chopping them up, skin and all, and the simmering them in a pot with some water and I will sometimes add raisins or prunes or dates for a little extra sweetness and sometimes a little molasses. I don't like artificial sweeteners and I find apples on their own are sweet enough for me especially with the raisins, dates etc. added. |

I don't eat much meat these days. A big habit for me to break was the "eating meat with every meal" deal that I grew up with and followed until just a few years ago. Now when I eat meat, it's rarely on it's own, but more as a flavour component to a more complex dish like chili or spaghetti sauce or soup or with whole grains etc. That way I get the meat flavour I like, the lean protein, without the massive amount of calories I would normally eat by eating meat alone as part of a several course meal. Portion control I think is the biggest issue most overweight people have with meat. |

How about just eating a whole grain pasta to get as much nutrition as you can out of the noodles and then eating a regular portion like a cupful with your healthy sauce of choice? It's a reasonably healthy side dish and you get to enjoy what you really want in a reasonable amount of calories. Same as anything else...just watch how much you eat. |

I concur with bieroama 100%. It's tough to lose weight with mostly cardio for many reasons, including it's boring as crap and you just get tired of doing it after a while. You will burn as many or more calories lifting weights, build strength, improve posture and appearance and burn fat without losing muscle, as you would with a lot of intense cardio. |

It will definitely work...I've seen results that are simply amazing in some women I know. Follow the program, don't put your own spin on it and eat right and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve both in strength gains and appearance and how you feel, in just a few weeks. |

If it's made with white flour then it's the same nutritionally as white bread...you can figure it out from there. |

I've always found it odd that the manager of the gym I belong to, until very recently, was obese. She didn't lose weight, I think she got fired. She hired several other obese people to work there as well...I just thought that a bit odd. Vyper if there's one thing I've learned in 20+ years of self employment it's that you're going to be happiest if you follow your own path and pave your own road. Blaze your own trail so to speak. Some people can run with the pack and be happy, but once in a while you see someone off running in the distance all by themselves. That's you. If you aren't into faking it, if you aren't into bs'ing clients into thinking they are progressing because you smile a lot and make small talk, without results, then that isn't you. If you believe in quality training, setting and achieving goals, success through hard work etc. then that is who you are and you have to work towards finding a forum where you can do that. Quality always succeeds in the long run and many people are willing to pay a lot of money for results, you just have to find them. Don't worry about what you don't have as far as qualifications go or anything else. Focus on what you do have and focus on your strengths. |

I'm no expert but I watched those goblet and sumo squat videos and in one he didn't even get to parallel and in the other he was squatting with 120 lbs. Not exactly a ton of weight although he did do it 20 times. I'd suggest starting with a proper olympic barbell if you have access to one. You are going to start light anyway so it'll give you lots of time to practice your form for when you get up to the heavier weights. Most women I know don't have the grip strength to hold the dumbells they need to hold near their max squat weights. |

You had me until I thought I couldn't drink beer...but got me back at the end...lol. That'll be my free meal...beer...lol. One of the fun things I found about eating a cleaner diet was being inventive in cooking and finding ways to enjoy stuff I really liked in new versions or just making stuff up as I go along. |

When comparing calories make sure you compare portion sizes too. 1 serving of ice cream for example might be 1/2 cup and 1 serving of yogurt parfait might be 3/4 of a cup, in which case it might have more calories because it's 50% more food per serving. When the serving sizes are the same and you want to understand further, just multiply fat gx9 and carb and protein grams x4 to see where the calories are coming from. |

A gram was originally derived as the mass of 1 ml of water. Thus 1000g = 1kg = 1000ml = 1 Litre...of water...and most other liquids. And that concludes todays lesson on the metric system...lol. |

As Rose mentioned oils are pure fat. 1 TBSP of any oil or fat is about 120 calories, including butter and margarine. Nuts and seeds are mostly fat and more filling than a couple of TBSP of oil that's for sure...lol. |

There is no magic formula for weight loss beyond maintaining a calorie deficit and eating healthy for your overall health and fitness. Eat less, exercise more or both...always works. |
