Keep it simple - eat a plant based diet.

Google Rich Roll and Scott Jurek and you'll see what I mean.

There are also successful athletes that eat meat.

Abs are probably 90% diet.  Drop your body fat% to see your abs.

But she's already 123 pounds.  Will changing her diet/eating less help her drop her body fat % and see her abs?

I would continue the diet that you're on and do more strength training (full body strength exercises) with a small focus on ab work.

Foods full fat versus nonfat yogurt debate Jan 15 2013

Full fat, plain yogurt is probably the healthiest/most nutritious for you.  Make sure it lists a single ingredient (besides the bacteria).

But I don't practice what I preach as I always get the non-fat version since, with yogurt, I care a little more about the calories than the health.

As long as you're healthy, running 18 miles a week doesn't sound dangerous at all.

Might not be the healthiest things in the world, but they are pretty filling.  If you post any food item that isn't a non-processed, whole food, the people here will attack it.  Whether that's right or not is another topic.

Non-fat Greek yogurt usually gets me full when I'm a little hungry.  And at 100 calories a pop, it's not that bad.  I usually eat it at night when I start to feel hungry.

Don't laugh, but I've been listening to Arnold Schwarzennaeger's book.  That thing gets me super motivated and pumped up during my runs.

Fitness cardio vs. strength training Nov 02 2012

As everyone else has said, both cardio and strength training are great and beneficial.  But if I had to guess, I think strength training is better.  This isn't based on anything other than my own opinion.  With that said, I hate strength training and love cardio.  So I run a lot - going back to what amethystgirl said about the best exercise being hte one you enjoy.

Fitness will sit ups give my stomach bulky muscle? Oct 19 2012

I've always compared doing 100 sit-ups to doing 100 arm curls with 10 pound dumbbells.  If you can do 100 reps, it's probably not going to do much for muscle building.  I might be wrong, but that's where my logic takes me.

You people are ridiculous. Eat your friggin beans if they are THAT important to you. I really don`t care enough to keep arguing about this.

If you`re that set on eating a cheap starch, go for it. But I am not going to go out of my way to do the same.

They're just having a discussion on whether or not beans are a good source of protein.  Both sides of which has some merits.  But anyways, the condescension is really appreciated.  Thanks!

Weight Loss Juice Cleanse? Sep 11 2012

I guess it's good in a sense that you're not going to be eating highly processed food.  But you can do the same kind of thing by eating a variety of whole foods instead of just drinking juice.

Every now and then, especially after a weekend of overindulgence in alcohol, sugar, salt, and oil, I go on a 2-3 day "cleanse".  Cleanse just being eating lots of fruits and vegetables and staying away from anything processed.

Have you tried brewing iced green tea instead of hot?  It goes down just like water.  Also, I read somewhere that seeping tea in cold water releases more antioxidants than if you seeped it in hot water.

Fitness Protein Bars Sep 07 2012

What about Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat Bread?  1 slice is 50 calories and 4 grams of protein.  If you eat 4 slices, that gives you the typical 200 calories in a protein bar with 16 grams of protein.  Bread is just as convenient as a protein bar.  And a LOT cheaper, too!

Or just use 1-2 slices and add in a bit of peanut/almond butter.  Perfect blend of protein, fat, and carbs for your post-workout recovery.
