The Lounge Anyone raise a preteen/teen and managed to not kill them? Apr 25 2013

Teenagers are why some species eat their young.

My 15 year old might not see 16. I feel your pain.

I have apologized to my mother as well. I wasn't a bad kid, but I worried her half to death. She would probably rather had me be lazy or argumentative.

A friend of mine calls the teen condition a "flare-up of the IKE YKN gene" (I Know Everything, You Know Nothing). Come to think of it, he might have been talking about me... :-\

I've made spaghetti squash exactly once. It was a huge hassle..but then again I'm not exactly proficient in the kitchen :T

i feel the easiest way to make it is to chop it in half, scoop out the seeds and microwave it for like 10 minutes!

D: I didn't even think to microwave it. All the recipes I found online said to cook it, and my oven sucks the big one.

Yet another thing I'm replacing in this house.

Microwaving it never entered my mind! O.o I will have to try that too...

I threw together some things I had in the kitchen and came up with a new and yummy recipe.

I used about 8 oz of cool whip, a packet of hot cocoa mix, 'bout half a bag of mini marshmallows and a bunch of chocolate chips. Mixed all that together and my hubby and I spent the next little while nomming it and discussing what else we could put in it (or substitute). We came up with some interesting ideas for the future of "Chocolate Fluff".

It was even better the next day. I will do that again. :-)

It's thinking like this, that keeps me on the straight and narrow!

I started my diet when I ate a half a bag of pbutter chocolate chips in one sitting D-:<

Factored into the calorie allowance, my friend!

I still have to work out what a serving is, really, but in the meantime, I am trying to show a little bit of restraint.

Example: I did not dive into the container headfirst. Yes, I have made progress. :-)

A hassle? Really? I cut mine in half the long way, put it face down on a sprayed pan and bake it in the oven at 350 until it pokes easily with a fork. It scrapes easily out of the skin and I typically toss it with a little butter and garlic powder.

Of course, that was before I found that it no longer likes me. Now I cook it for my hubby and watch longingly as he enjoys it. :-\

A cursory stalk confirms we have not met.

I'm Buck.

Pleased to make your acquaintance.

Hello Buck. :) I'm Adria.

Was a chatter for...quite a while, quite a while ago. Revamping my commitment to fitness, and as such, back into the CC.

Adria? Like the jewelry Adria? We've not met, but I have heard you make some seriously beautiful bling. :-)

I'm KC. Nice to meet you!

ETA: I guess KG answered that question for me!

Has anyone ever been sad about something, that had made you fall off the 'diet wagon'?

And then you started gaining weight?

That's the story of my 20's.

Have you learned a way to avoid that? Before I start gaining ;)

I just can't have a lot of junk around. I have to plan for everything. I'll even eat stuff I don't like if I lose control. :-\

The most success I have had is to plan for treats and fit them in. I have to be very careful about thinking "oh, I just won't log today" or starting to feel like it's not worth it.

As far as it being triggered by something sad, I have to use that feeling to motivate myself. It's not easy, but the energy has to go somewhere. I also delay gratification, like if I find I am in a position that I will likely "fall" I will talk myself into doing something else and make myself wait. "I really want this Milky Way Dark, but I will take a walk first. If I still want it after that, I will have 1/4 of it." Often I don't want it anymore after the activity, or if I do, it is under control.

Oop! What if you're stuck in the office till 5...!

It's 5:30 for me. That's a trick. I actually went to a sports store and got a pedaler that fits under my desk. This one is actually the one I got, but I think I paid a little less for it (new) at Play It Again Sports.

I also take ALL of my food with me every day. Every once in a while, I go out with the office crew, but the rest of the time, it is pre-planning for me. It's a lot cheaper, too. Eating out really took a chunk out of my wallet when I did it every day.

It seriously helps that my hubby is on the same page and helps keep me motivated. Many times, I have been like "I don't wanna do this today!" and he helps me keep it in perspective. My inner toddler comes out about once a week to stomp her feet and argue. :-)

I cried a lot more with my last baby as well just knowing she was the last.  Just appreciate each stage while you can.  Because truly before you know it they will teenagers.  My oldest will be 17 this month.  It amazes me how fast time as gone.

What is wrong with girls?!?  I have 3 of them.  I would not know what to do with a boy.

My oldest is 15. Middle is 5 and Rosie will be a year at the end of the month. Yes, it goes too fast.

Three girls, huh? Eldest is a boy and is almost as tall as I am. I used to laugh when my brother got to that point with our mom. Now I'm there. Heaven help us mothers of teens.

One of my favorite quotes is still "Teenagers are why some species eat their young."

In 10 days my little baby will be 5 months old. :(

I started crying last night because he isn't a teeny baby anymore. Not that he was ever teeny anyway but I miss some of the things he used to do, like want me to snuggle him so he could fall asleep. *sigh* Now he wants to sit up all the time and explore stuff, eat things, baby talk....seems like he is never still unless he is asleep.

Just think of all the fun stuff yet to come :)

Seriously. There are neat things they do at every new age. Just wait 'till he's mobile!

This time around, the transitions are harder for me 'cause I know Rosie's my last. I've spent my fair share of time crying this time around.
