I use a bodybugg to measure my calories burned but I prefer using CC to log food. To get the benefit of CC's awesome community and vast food database WHILE utilizing my bodybugg, I just input the calorie burn difference each day. To do this, I need to see what CC says my burn was. (Mind you, it doesn't change unless I were to put in additional activities, but I always look)

have you tried buying the polenta that you have to cook? The good stuff takes 10 mins of stirring but there is always the instant kind. It is terribly convenient and you can make a serving at a time.

Otherwise I would go the freezing route. Cut off portions and get them partially frozen before putting them in a bag together so you don't have to defrost them all to get one out!

hello taylorswift! I am in a similar boat as you. I am 5'7" and 138 pounds right now. I would like to see 130. This is where I am comfortable (and my clothes fit!) I have been at 125 in the past and I felt sluggish. I got there via the flu, miserable way to lose weight! I would love to give you encouragement to get to lose a few vanity pounds or to feel more fit, aiming for 125 as a minimum for a healthy BMI.

I had a similar experience. I started CC 2+ years ago and tried to keep an 1150 calorie per day! (yikes!) I didn't realize that this was way too low. I lost 7 pounds or so very quickly and then hit a plateau that I couldn't seem to get past. Upping my calorie goal to a much better 1300 calories per day and burning around 2000 gave me the oompf to get past the plateau. Who knew eating more would make me lose faster!

Weight Loss Looking for an accountability buddy: 10-15lbs by May Jan 20 2010

Sounds like everyone has good goals for the spring! I like the idea of starting a group and having goals for the week. Maybe we can rotate who makes the goal for the week? Let us know when you get it set up 10by.

I am excited to have a new support group here on CC! The group that I chatted back and forth with a couple of years ago when I lost some weight was amazing and I felt like I really knew them. I would talk about them in everyday conversation like, "I have a friend who is training for a marathon, can you believe it?" and then catch myself....

Hi 10bysummer! I would like to lose about the same in the next few months. I am 28 and going for my PhD in Mechanical Engineering. The student lifestyle has its perks and drawbacks! I have a great gym at my disposal but I am constantly tempted by free cookies, cheap alternatives, and the stress of trying to graduate!

I lost 25 pounds two years ago using CC and had a great group of ladies that helped me stay on track...

There is a definite echo in here! I am on day 2 of actual calorie counting and relearning what it means to have self control. NO! I don't need a processed, un-delicious m&m cookie just because I am in a 2 hour meeting and I'm bored. Sure wish someone would eat the last one already though!

Hi all! It has been forever since I've posted. It is good to see familiar faces!

Unfortunately, I've been sooo out of control since I posted last. I think keeping up on here correlates way to well with how I did! I am coming back 10-15 pounds heavier and struggling to get back in the groove. BUT! I think I am finally ready. Finally.  I must make a choice each moment, every day. Do I want to feel healthy? or do I want to feel sluggish, chubby, have difficulty finding something to wear in my closet? PUT DOWN THE Candy, greasy food, etc. The compulsive eating is a quick fix, a way to feel happy or less stressed, but it is so momentary! It leaves me just wishing for the next quick fix. Time to start going to the grocery store, bringing in lunch, cooking dinner, ordering things NOT smothered in cheese and bacon, AND continue to stay active.

So, Joan. Let's kick some butt together!

I went for a run yesterday! Finally. I didn't get too far, I punked out at a mile and a half, but I got out and did something. I've been carrying around a gym bag and not using it... today I had to laugh because I didn't even have a full set of workout clothes in it. Sheesh, what was I supposed to do without pants?

Rachel - Welcome! Don't be too discouraged, you are still down 80 pounds! That's amazing. I know how hard it can be to juggle school and eating well. I have been 'enjoying' too much free food and despising all the stress :( But! we can get back on track!

I hope it is as nice out where everyone is as it is here today! I love spring!

Hey all! Just dropping in. I've been so BAD lately that I had to remind myself what encouraged me to be good and lose in the first place. I think Sherry's advice should be ringing in my ears: cut back and exercise! I've been slacking, big time.

*sigh*

It sounds like everyone else is doing well, and enjoying spring!

Cassy- I can't believe you are training for 2 full marathons! I swear last year you were only planning on doing a half!

Hi Ann :) congrats on seeing the 130's :)

Karey - Bon voyage! Isn't wiggle room nice?

Cassy-  Love the game room in the hot tub idea... I have this great picture in my head of people crowded around a floating monopoly board or something. It sounds fun (and SCARY) to be the hot chick in the bikini. Good luck!

Sherry- :P curls are exotic! I have stick straight hair and my sister has ringlets her hair is so curly... I am forever jealous of her :P

Karey - lol Live isn't fair :( I had two really bad food days in a row and I am really hoping I can keep it from becoming a really bad food week. So many celebratory dinners and holiday dinners and let's go out for a girls lunch and there isn't enough hours in the day to plan out a good lunch to take. ug. Bad food, bad!

I started my running training schedule yesterday. I am so glad I waited a bit to start the schedule. My easy 2 mile run for the first day of training was much easier because I got back into running the last two weeks. I ran in my neighborhood all last week and it is pretty steep in places which made running yesterday on a flat track a breeze. I ended up running it way too fast for what my schedule said.

Cassy- thanks for the tip on runner's world. It is a much better schedule for me than the one I was thinking of doing. I have plenty of time to up my mileage because the race I want to do isn't until October but I still wanted a schedule to follow so that I don't slack off. Though walking into school today makes me wonder... it is SO COLD today. I don't know how you run at -15!

Sherry- I feel the same way. I did nothing in January :( February is going to be a completely different story though!

I am getting that motivation back for myself and have been seeing lower numbers everyday instead of the usual fluctuations up and down and even the steady increase of the last 2 months. I'm eating reasonably and I am getting some exersize in. I just might be back on track! Now, if only I could get motivated to do my work!

I am finally done with my qualifier exam! 2 months of studying and eating my feelings are finally over! I took the exam Thursday night, allowed myself two celebratory dinners (crab cakes and steak that night and cottage pie at an Irish place the next night with all my colleagues) and now I am getting back into a grove. I ran twice this weekend and hopefully I can get another run in this week. I started to set up a training schedule to work my way up in mileage and decided I am going to first work my way up to running 10 miles total in a week... whether it is 5 - 2 mile runs or 4 - 2.5 mile runs or whatever and see if I can up mileage just for the pure fact that I don't want to worry about running every day :)

Cassy- Happy birthday! ( a little late)

Karey- I've been eating like mad lately... mainly because of stress but partly because I just got used to eating everytime I turned around. If your stomach isn't growling, maybe you are just looking for the comfort of food? Congrats on finding the sweet spot with the weights.

Cassy - Ug. so much math for a running schedule!  j/k when I started reading the up 10%, down 80% it just reminded me that I should be studying. I didn't get my run in this weekend so I am a little bummed, but I am reminded that it is really hard to get into a running schedule in the winter... soooo cold outside! ... oh and I feel the same way about doughnuts.

Karey - I finally went through the candy bucket and weeded it down AND moved it away from my couch potato position. The worst part about it was that I was eating candy I didn't even like. :(  About the lifting... I think it is normal to go up in weight when you are building muscle. With the 3 month hiatus, getting back to exercise meant I saw a spike in my wieght the last week or so. It has gone back down, hopefully not because I lost the muscle already :P

I realized on saturday that I must be eating way too much. I got up and started cleaning the house (I was avoiding the books) By the time I looked at the clock it was 3:30 in the afternoon and I wasn't the slightest hungry yet. I was running all over the house scrubbing for 6 or 7 hours!

I have a week and a half left before my exam and then I can get back into a normal routine AND stop justifying eating like an idiot....

I'm here! Just trying not to get discouraged! I have two weeks until my qualifier exam for my PhD. I have been studying nonstop for a month and I really just want it over with already!

I am pround to say that I have managed to get some exercise in after a 3 month hiatus. I made it to aerobics 3 times last week and then a 2 mile run and aerobics so far this week. It feels sooo sooo good. I want to start training for a 10 mile race in the fall. I know I can get there... so if anyone has a good training schedule, let me know. I can't start training until after my qualifier, but I figure 8 months is more than enough to up my milelage!

So now, my biggest nemesis revealed... the candy bucket that is next to my chair as I watch TV at night.... someone kick my butt into putting it farther away from me. I mean, I may still eat a piece or two, but I should still be made to get up to get it!

hmmm... I'ld be curious what zero calorie foods you've found.... I understand the soda... and the occasional zero calorie flavoring (like popcorn spray or the spray salad dressings) but are there really any zero calorie "foods"?

hope everyone had happy holidays! Just checking in, but I feel like I could echo the same post as everyone else. I am trying my best to get through to New Year's day without totally blowing it and then it is on to New Years Resolution 2009. It makes me a little sad to be 2 pounds away from last years goal, but! can't complain. I am ready to get back to exercising!
