As you are already underweight, losing any weight is dangerous for you. I am amazed at any doctor telling you to watch your sugar, unless you are pre-diabetic or have another health issue.

You should be eating more in an effort to raise your weight to a healthy level, and there is nothing inherently bad about sugar, it is just dense calories.

Your body, unless you have diabetes/other health issues, will take the sugar calories and use them the same as any other carb calories.

123 pounds and 5'8" is not healthy. I would see a second doctor for another opinion. Eat healthy, but mostly, EAT.

Perhaps your friends are simply concerned that you are not eating enough calories and are trying to be supportive and you are misunderstanding their motives?

I also want to point out that I am an athlete, and I have the body of an athlete, I can easily run 5 miles without stopping and lift more weight than any of my 130lb 140lb friends. I wear a size 6 shoe and I'm tall. I have small bone structure. If you think I look like a skeletor you've been mistaken. Some people have small bones and they carry weight differently than others.

I think that it is sad that someone like me, who is perfectly normal, can write about their high sugar intake and be in a way, told they are wrong for chosing a healthier lifestyle.

This is probably the last time I will ever post on this site because it seems a bit biased and everyone is a little bit parcial to the fact that if your not overweight you shouldn't be conscious of your diet. There is an ED thread in this site, and I did not post on it.

Thanks everybody for your comments though!!

What? You drank pop...? So? I am sorry but I don't really see the significance. Did you count the calories in it? Cos it really doesn't matter if you only eat 500 calories a day purely of chocolate, it is still too little and probably indicates an eating disorder. And as for raising it for thanksgiving I am sure many people, even people with eating disorders did that. I am anorexic, but I plan to eat normally as possibly on Christmas day.

When they really start nagging you you crawl under a rock? I thought you said you argue with everyone? Doesn't seem like crawling under a rock to me.

What symptoms of an ED DO you have? What ED do you think you have? I am utterly confused.

You should try to eat normally EVERY day.

Well music-love, I thank you for your warning! But I have only lost 7 lbs in 3 months lol. I think a lot of the weight loss was me not drinking pop. And trust me, I still eat my indulgences. But just so you know where I'm coming from... I used to eat half a box of krispy kreme donuts on the regular. I was so skinny in hs and middle school that i wanted to gain weight so bad i ate and ate and nothing!

and eventually i just got into really bad eating habits. I have a lot of self control and im very comfortable with my body in mind and spirit! I love my body!

I see what you're all saying, but if I'm really doing it for attenion why do I crawl under a rock when they really start nagging me? You would think I would be even happier, but I'm not. This leads me to believe I only like it when people show they care so we can get into arguments and I can win them. I don't change anything about myself and I show that I'm in control no matter what they do. Isn't control supposed to be part of the problem? Then again maybe I don't like the serious nagging because it's to much attenion.

Could anyone explain the pop thing to me? That and the calorie thing this past week are the still casting very large shadows of doubt.

I think with most people eating disorders are a sign of more deep-rooted problems. Whether they be depression, mere low self esteem, a need for control in a life of chaos, there are many things that can cause one to focus on food and body too much.

Listening to you talk about it, I am truly confused.

I feel as though most people with true ED's are in complete denial of the fact, or at least will not tell anyone. I think part of it is attention, regardless of negative/positive attention, people with problems that they arent using for some sort of attention do not want people to know they have problems.

You seem smart to me. But if you are smart you will get help for yourself. No one should live their life depressed and scared of what they "might" have, while expressing themselves anonymously through posts on a calorie counting website.

The sooner you realize that there is more to life the better. The sooner you realize that your going to have to grow up and face your own problems the sooner you can live a more fulfilling life.

Lol that is weird. I noticed that once I moved out of my parents house and stopped the constant grazing over the kitchen thing that my stomach started growling again. Now, if I don't eat every 4-5 hours my stomach will be sure to let everyone in the room know its time to eat lol.

Why are you doing so much cardio in the first place?  What are your goals?  Try using different elliptical programs for variety.  I have bad feet, ankles, and achilles and the elliptical is about the only cardio I can do...but different programs hit different muscles...

You shouldn't be doing cardio on the days you wgt train...but if you must, do it after the wgt training...

But I'm really wondering about your reason for sooooooo much cardio...there are no real benefits and you're burning up alot of muscle.

I imagine she's doing it to lose weight! Cardio is the fastest way (besides not eating lol) to lose fat, especially in the midsection...

I'm not sure how "used to" an exercise your body can become, but I do know that if you pair it with some weight training you'll build muscle. The bigger/stronger your muscles are the harder any workout is and the more calories your body will burn. I'd recommend mixing up the resistence but ALSO doing some free-weights/calisthenics to go along with it to make sure your building that muscle!!

Good luck!

i just still feel really gross and fat whenever i'm full. i feel so much better *appearance wise* when my stomachs completely empty. when i sit down and eat, i almost never stop :( and then i'm full and i just feel....bad. i know its mental, but its just when my stomach gets full, then it poofs out and it makes me feel worse.

I totally know what your talking about. I'm 5'8" 125 lbs, and for our height/weight (although we may be build differently) but for me, I have small bone structure so when I eat a lot, or really salty foods that make me retain water my tummy gets all bloated looking!! Maybe its mental, with girls I think the belly=middle area is one of the biggest worry-spots so if we feel full in that area we think its bigger even if its not!!!

But don't worry! Your NOT FAT!!!!!:o)

If you want to weigh yourself everyday, that's fine but you may have to deal with the emotional ups and downs that come with it.  I weigh myself several times a week out of curiosity but the only one I consider important and document is my Sunday morning weigh in.

I also use an Omron Fat Loss Monitor to measure what really counts, how much Fat I've lost.  Weighing yourself may give you a general idea of your progress but monitoring your body fat percentage tells you what you really want to know (or don't want to know).

By monitoring your fat you may find that your weight has increased by a pound or so due to additional muscle mass while losing 1% body fat.  When you have that kind of information you won't care so much about what the scale says.

Just my two cents.

Thats a really good idea!

Fitness Running IS good for you....right? Nov 07 2007

I'm a runner and I love it! But be sure to get exercise physicals from your doctor if you run a lot, it can do a lot to the joints/etc in your legs... and if you run a lot, long periods of time (I run cross-country) be sure to check your stride, make sure your form is correct, running wrong can cause issues as well, and shoes are very important. Make sure to get new shoes when yours wear out!!!

Thank y guys all for your answers, they really are helping me to understand it...

But one thing I'd like to point out to a comment houck made about me not believing her... I don't think she'll feel that way because I was the one who pointed out her habits to her...See, I've always been underweight, when I was in middle school people used to call me anorexic and things of that nature, so when I started getting curves and putting on weight in college I was EXTATIC!and while I'm not worried about being fat, I'm still very self-conscious because so much attention was on my body when I was younger.... But when she started eating less and less and getting skinnier and skinnier and exercising more and more, I started up on here, to see whats RIGHT.

But I think she is also dealing with depression. Her and her boyfriend of 2 years broke up recently and she's always been VERY dependent on him, and I think she's just really lost control.

Fitness Anyone have an opinion on resistance bands? Nov 06 2007

Regardless of the fact that you believe resistance bands to be ineffective, others may find them effective, others who maybe do not have access to free weights. Something is always better than nothing. By toning I do mean building muscle slowly.

I build muscle slowly because I'm a waitress and if I were to try and build muscle QUICKLY I would be where I was when I started, unable to lift a food tray and a little sore for my 17 hour work day.

i think my problem is that i leave them all sitting ontop of the fridge where i can just go grab one (or three) whenever i please.

i was thinking of putting them in the back of the cupboard.

i don't have any right now, but next time i go grocery shopping i think i'll pick up some luna's. i prefer them to the clif.

especially since i dropped my cal intake again.

Try BALANCE bars 100 cal. or Pria 110. They have way less cals and the same nutritional stuff. They may be a little smaller but if you can't help just eating one, eating two is still just 200 cal!! The vanilla caramel is the best

Maybe you've programmed yourself to be that way! Out of habit.

Try to resist snacking so much. Plan it out more.

When you finish eating, leave the room you ate in. Do something, busy yourself. Whenever I find myself craving something sweet after dinner I do pilates for 15 min. then I completely forget about eating!

But for the most part, I'm exactly the same. All day long I do what my parents used to call "grazing". They call me a "grazer" all I do is constantly hit up the pantry. Handfull of peanuts, bags of fruit snacks, graham crackers etc... I can't stop it!

Your best advice is STAY BUSY!!
