heres the thing with smoking and running ( i think). it is going to make it harder. period. you can do it, but getting your wind where you want it will take way longer for you then another beggining runner whos not smoking. I smoke to, and I'm a runner. when i started running I was smoking about 6 to 7 cigarettes day, but the running made me smoke less (like 2-3). it was unconscious, it just came with planning my day around the run and knowing what felt best, but I never said, ok, your gonna smoke less today. you'll be able to get where you want to go with your running, it will just be a... challenge. The choice is basically up to you, for me, the smoking didn't and doesn't have to be an issue unless I make it one. I know that it can be frustrating though. |

Same with me last night..! I woke up as usual, but only about three hours after i went to sleep, and all i had was a banana and a protein bar! benadryl helps me sleep, at least it did last night. i also waited two hours before going to sleep after eating my last meal.

It mostly consists of gradual up/down slopes, its all concrete though, and the shoes I was wearing were really awful (super tore up, missing one sole etc etc). new shoes help a little, but not much. I actually have it in both knees, the right one is worse. thanks for the advice about the brace with the open patella. I'm also a cyclist, but I've started doing tons of lunges and squats to try and strengthen my legs. It's hard to hear I have to rest, you know? I've also started icing/elevating my knees 30 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. tiger balm, and motrin. thanks everyone so much/

today was the worst, I actually had to stop mid-run and walk a block and a half. I got braces, and was wearing one today and a wrap on the other knee to see which worked better (brace, hands down). I've also expanded my stretching beforehand and take some painkillers 30 minutes before a run. blackrosesred, your totally right, my sprints have been murder. I have a protein shake with a quarter cup milk after runs, and usually eat a meal an hour or two hours after. physical therapy... damn. ok. I'm open to anything really. I'll check it out. thanks so much for the advice, it helps a lot. |

oh my god, yes, i have the same problem. I have been trying to figure out what to do about it to. some ideas ive been working on.. - I also wasn't eating enough during the day. I upped my calories and the amount of night food I was eating at night went down -excercise, or stuff during the day that really wipes me out. It means I get up less -the types of food I eat during the day. Was not eating enough good fats, if any. avacados, almonds are my favorite. If youre going to sleep hungry yer probably not eating enough during the day, to state the obvious. Like I said, I do the same thing, also in an effort to loose weight, but if you think about it, the stuff that gets eaten at night has more calories then the healthy food choices you could make during the day. If you consumed more during the day to prevent nighttime hunger/eating in the long run you would probably end up consuming less calories, and burning more of the calories you consume (as opposed to just sleeping on them). Which would lead to weight loss, but more importantly, feeling better about yourself and less guilty gross etc when you wake up in the morning and know you have to eat breakfast. I'm speaking from my own experience, I don't know if this all rings true for you. Might though. Hope this helps a little. If you come upwith any suggestions let me know, I really hate the whole night eating thing.. |

I go with Spiru-tein bars. they're really good, but until I read about Muscle Milk Light Bars, I thought I had a super low calorie high protein bar (150 cal, 10 grams protein). Thanks for the reccomendation shapes44, sounds good. By the way, can you purchase them at a GNC or other nutrition store? |

Does anyone wake up at night (as in from sleep) to eat? like you wake up and you'll be fully awake and you go to the kitchen and eat? I find that it doesnt give me enough time between eating and waking up and will leave me hung over from the food, IE full drowsy etc. I have tried everything, tea, milk, pre bed time snacks. I know what you mean octo-luv, about mentally having to start a new day even though you may still feel full. I always have to get up in the morning and eat breakfast, since i have to try and "right"whatever eating may have led to the night snacking. |

Ok, um i have had eating disorders out the ass since i was like 12 or 13. im really working hard to be ok after a really bad relapse into my anorexia and then bulimia and improve my relationship with food in general but i still want to be 118 lbs. thats totally a realistic weight, as 126 is not a comfortable weight for me. but it means that for the first time in um, i dunno, 5 or 6 years i have to eat regularly and be normal, which makes me feel fat. i know my metabolism is just righting itself but ****, i feel like im gaining weight and its scary and... just really uncomfortable. i dunno. im just super frustrated. i run and am physically active, and thats like the only stuff that keeps me sane. once again, i dunno. theres my kind of disjointed rant. i think i feel another one coming in a few days.. |
