About: Brian J. Lipps, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as a specialist in kidney disease, kidney failure, high blood pressure, kidney stones, kidney infections and other kidney disorders. Experience: Dr. Lipps has 20 years of research, teaching and clinical in experience in the field of kidney disease and high blood pressure. He is in the process of forming the Advanced Kidney Care Institute, an organization whose key mission will be to encourage early evaluation and treatment of kidney disease and high blood pressure. Towards this end, Dr. Lipps develops multimedia educational materials on kidney disease and high blood pressure for patients, their family and friends, as well as non-physician health care providers. Education: Dr. Lipps received his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. He then went on to get his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and internal medicine training at the University of Chicago and West Suburban Medical Center in Chicago. He received his subspecialty training in kidney disease and high blood pressure (nephrology) at the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. From Brian Lipps, M.D.: If you or someone you care about has a kidney disease, you are by no means alone. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) estimates that “20 million Americans - 1 in 9 U.S. adults - have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and another 20 million more are at increased risk”. The number of people with diabetes and high blood pressure, the most common causes of kidney failure, is growing rapidly. Most people don't know they have kidney disease or are at risk for it, so its remains widely under diagnosed and under treated. My goal is to give you knowledge you need to recognize the many forms of kidney disease, and how to work with your health care providers to diagnosis and treat it. |
