hi hun,

For an example of what people eat try looking at the 2500+ thread. The posts in there are well on their way to recovery and are really inspirational! (i go there for motivation)

It is normal to gain on 1000-1200 cals if you have been eating less than this however you will find any weight gain will slow and you may even lose on this amount as your metabolism increases. it is recommended that you eat AT LEAST 2500 cals to gain, and even then you may find gains slow or (again) that you may lose!

The fear is normal. It is the ED fighting against you getting healthy again. Its scared about what it will do when you happy, healthy and out having fun. Who will it torment then?

Remember the calories you eat are being used to repair the damage done to your body so think of it as medicine :) Best tasting medicine ever! :D

I'm just guessing but maybe it is because fruit is quite high in sugar.

For example - Small banana - 12g Medium banana - 14g Large banana - 17g Extra large banana - 19g of sugar (roughly)

However i think this type of sugar if different to the type you should be limiting...

Just guessing so ignore me if i'm wrong... :)

The best way to increase the calories is to Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway!!!

It is hard to increase your intake of calories. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. The ED doesnt want you better because when your better your going to be having FAR too much FUN to listen to its stupid thoughts.

Well done with the Mini Kit Kat. Maybe next time opt for the normal sized one (or even the king size one Surprised)

Hugs and Luck

Congratulations on your period (that sound so odd to say...) BUT more importantly WELL DONE for completing your meal plan and ignoring that stupid lying ED!

Your BMI is still dangerously low. While you may have had A period (which i think actually only counts if it lasts the full 'normal' length of a cycle) you are still far from healthy. Honestly do you feel healthy? Do you feel like you did before your ED developed? I highly doubt it.

You ARE gaining for YOUR health. It has nothing to do with the ED so he/she (depending on how you think of it, mine is a he) can go jump. What does it know about being healthy? It is the reason why you became so sick, hardly someone to rely on for information about becoming healthy!

Please remember than if you were in IP treatment there is a chance you could be confined to a wheelchair! It really is that serious!

Your post is NOT stupid or obnoxious, the whole point of this board is to get help when you need it! Can you talk to you mum about this? Maybe ask her to keep a closer eye on you for a little while just while your struggling.

I hope nothing i have said sounds too harsh (but i think this is what is needed ATM some cold hard facts).

Now lets stuff something in that EDs mouth to shut him up... cake anyone ;)

P.s - If you need to talk to someone you can always message me. Its sometimes nice to talk to a stranger and i would be happy to be your stranger :)

You say US calories (fiber removed) do that mean that the nutritional info on the back of US packets would be different to that provided on the back of UK packets?

No one can really tell or know if your metabolism will ever be what it was again. What i do know is that if you start eating more it will speed up.

Yes when you start eating larger amounts of calories you will start to gain weight rapidly BUT that will slow and you may even start to lose again so will need to up them again.

I have both been at target and even slightly over and at no point would you say i looked fat. Its a common fear of anorexics they will go from super skinny to 'fat' but this WILL NOT HAPPEN!

The only way to test your metabolism is EAT! :) (and enjoy it!!)

Foods that I just can't stand:

  • Anything fried. I can't stand the feel of oil on my hands let alone in my mouth! I refuse to wash frying pans where oil has been used.
  • Bacon - too oily and greasy
  • Pease pudding - Last time i ate this the taste made me want to puke, then i got AWFUL stomach pains which had me doubled in pain and crying. The idea of it makes me feel sick.

Phobia -

  • Ryvita - I has 3 of these on my plate once. I ate one, then looked down and to my horror there was a MAGGOT on my ryvita! Poking out of it like a worm! STILL ALIVE! Ugh

jess046 - In the UK if two doctors agree they can section you ander the mental health act and admit you into hosiptal.

The reason why you gained 1kg after drinking is because you had 'fake' weight. This is why many people (inc me) weight themselves first thing in the morning after going to the loo and before eating and drinking.

As you said, adding everything back all at once will make you feel overwhelmed. Clearly this would not be good for you as it may cause you to restrict :(

Maybe try with the snacks you find easier or you like the most. If you need to try swapping the snack for something of the same cal value but which you have not been able to try yet or you really like.

Good luck!

Clemmy I was thinking about this last night in bad and i was actually quite jealous of you. Its a hard thing for me to admit but i would love to an IP.

To receive the support that i lack at home, to gain the weight, challenge my food fears and be healthy again are all things which will take so much long as an OP and will be so much harder as an OP.

I try to deny that this is what i want as i have to think about my parents and the stresses they are already under. I honestly think that if i could tell them i was going on holiday and go to IP treatment i would.

Please dont think we are ganging up on you forcing you to accept IP treatment as that really is not the case. I just worry that you will pass up this offer that is actually really important to consider. xx

Could you try starting with adding one snack today and tomorrow, another on monday and another on Thursday?

We went round an aunts once and there was a cake. everyone else was offered some but i got - 'oh you dont eat cake' and therefore was not even offered any. Its nice to be offered as someday maybe i will have some.

Also if i want to eat something new - say aplen bars with chocolate (something i have not eaten for years) i dont feel able to as it will cause such a shock/ fuss from M&D!

clemmystar hun,

We both know how lame the HH treatment team is. Do you think they really will help you recover? They dont really seem to know what they are doin in my opinion. 50kg is still underweight for your height. I'm guessing your periods have stopped. One way to know you are helthy is the return of them so maybe this weight would be ok for you (if you were slender before)

Your BMI is really low. You would be in a wheelchair/ bed rest in IP treatment. please stop exercising. I too have/ had an addiction to exercise. On monday i worked out and later that evening i go scary chest pains. I SERIOUSLY thought it was a heart attack! I dont want you to die! who would i go shopping with ;)

Secondly your a teacher. Do you feel you are able to give the children the full attention they need? Are you teaching to you full ability? You said your super busy/ stressed. Do you find you miss meals or are 'not hungry'? This will not help you gain weight and you will find it hard to make yourself eat.

You have made 2 IP appointments? Who canceled them? You or your ED? I know what i said in my message but i guess at the time i hadn't really read this post fully. Now i kinda take some of my comments back. I didnt know how low your BMI is. Your ED will never let you think you are sick enough, just one more pound...

If you stop exercising you will not get fat! When you think about it 1kg = 1 bag of flour. Now dust that flour over you whole body. That bag will finely dust your body - AFTER its done repairing your organs. I too fear i will balloon but deep down i know i wont. WE wont!

You are seriously dangerously underweight and i am actually really worried for you and your health. What i am about to say may sound harsh but i think you need to hear it. Also I really want to go to felixstowe with you and go to the little ice cream shop and us both to have ice creams ;)

P.s How do you feel about drinking calories? maybe smoothies would help as they are less meal like and more drink like :)

Health & Support Okay...comments are annoying now. Feb 18 2011

I had an almost identical experience.Everything you say rings a bell with me. I too started off overweight and, to begin with, loved being told how great i looked. Then the comments slowed and finally stopped.

I heard from my best friend after i was receiving treatment that some girls i was once 'friends' with were going to go to our biology teacher to talk to her about my weight! (tbh i rarely spoke to these girls + i hate the biology teacher). I have been cyber bullied re my lack of weight; I have also been told my mum walked in on my aunts and nan talking about my weight; once when out walking a girl i went to primary school with asked me how i got so skinny to which i replied 'i dont eat' (i was so fed up with the comments by this point) and i have had people stare at me while i was swimming.

The reason to tell you this is to let you know that your not alone.

Some people say these things because they dont know what else to say. Kids can be mean and girls are the worse!
