Looking at your pictures uncleben, you don't need to lose any weight.  You look wonderful.  It's great to eat healthier for your overall health, but, according to your pictures, your focus should not be on weight loss.

Hi, ladies!  Room for another? I'm 5'10', ~165 (haven't weighed in a couple weeks).  I'm having a really hard time losing the last 10-15 pounds before my August 3rd wedding.  Any ideas?

Love this, tall girls!

I'm 5'10", 165.  All my friends are shorter than me and they talk about 165 as HUGE!  It drives me crazy!  I hate telling people how much I weigh.  I just got into a size 8 though and that makes it a bit easier.  Though my friends are still like, "I can't believe you weigh that much!"

I think it's great for us to have this forum to keep it in perspective.  Maybe I weigh more than my smaller friends, but when I gain 10 pounds no one notices...my friends who are 5'2" gain 10 and they look like they've really packed it on.

This is all really good advice!  I have the same problem...I go over on my calories everyday due to a bite here, a bite there.  And it's all healthy stuff!

I'm also trying to lose ~20 pounds and I need to do it before August 3rd (my wedding!)  I work out 4-5 times a week, doing 45-60 minutes of cardio, and light weights (about 30 minutes worth, alternating upper and lower body).  Please, somebody, give me some tiops for how to really make this happen -- I'm frustrated and desperate!

I'm so glad I found you guys! I (stupidly) started a thread looking for brides, then scrolled down and found this thread.  Duh.

Anyway, I'm getting married August 3rd and I'd like to lose at least 10 pounds and tone up.  I've been working out regularily, but the dieting is NOT going well.  When I get stressed, I eat.  So I'd love you guys to keep me motivated on the food front.

As, for getting toned, I do have some tips.  For the strapless girls - focus on toning with free weights.  Skull crushers, tricep dips, and tricep curls all great for toning the back of the arm jiggle.  Curls are great for biceps.  Also work on toning back and shoulders (this will make your waist look smaller -- very tricky!) -- lateral pulls, pectoral fly, and shoulder press are great basic exercises.  These are all pretty easy toning exercises that will make a difference quickly and only require you to invest in some handweights (5-10 pounds, depending on your upper body strength)  If you don't know how to do these exercises, you can find directions online...or ask your finaces, they probably know how to do them.

Ok...who has diet tips for me???

My tj favorites are:

frozen fire-roasted corn kernals -- add to soups, stews, salad, everything!

indian simmer sauces -- with rice & vegetables, delicious!

whole wheat pitas -- cheapest around & pretty low-cal

fat free feta -- theirs is hands-down the best, very flavorful and creamy (tastes full fat!)

chocolate covered edamame -- way, way better than it sounds!

do you eat fish?  tj's frozen fish selection is awesome -- tastey, pre-portioned, and healthy

the basked tofu is awesome, gwen's right!

frozen vegetarian tamales

great prices on luna bars, clif bars, etc.

i could go one and on....

oh, and i always pick up a couple bottles (or a case!) of two-buck chuck!

mmmmmmm, now i'm hungry for some tj's treats!  have fun!

I'm sorry to sound harsh -- But that is not enough food! If that is your typical diet, it's no wonder that you're not losing weight because your body is probably hanging on to the tiny amount of fat that it has for dear life!

Please find some face-to-face help.  It sounds like talking to a nutritionist and counselor would be really helpful.

Best of luck and take care of yourself!

For now, I would use a heating pad, not ice.  You probably kinked a muscle, so the heat will help relax it.  If you must exercise, try the recumbent bike aand try to keep yoyr back & neck very straight.  If it hurts really badly, I would take a few days off exercise, though.  If you push yourself too much, you'll injure yourself worth and that will really mess up your program.

When you do get back at, I think interval workouts are most effective for burning calories.  Also, make sure that you are keeping track of your heartrate during your workout and staying in the fat burn zone (if that's your goal).

Good luck!  I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Here's the really bad news -- Mojitos in bars are way more than 200 calories because they usually use much more than a jigger of rum.  Plus, a lot of bars add sugary sprite!  You can save calories by ordering it without the sugar though.  A bar that I go to muddles blackberries with the mint.  So good and plenty sweet sans sugar!

I'm a HUGE fan of a Thomas's light English muffin w/ 1/4 c. vegetable Egg Beaters & a slice of fat free american cheese.  170 calories and keeps me full and energized until lunch -- which is saying a lot because I'm a kindergarten teacher!

Keep your kitchen stocked with ingredients to make quesadillas (fat free cheese, whole wheat or corn tortillas, jalapenos, salsa), veggie burgers, air pop popcorn, 100 calorie treats (I like the nutter butters!), beef jerky, frozen grapes, and delicious teas.  I have my last final tonight, so I know what you're going through!
Foods Eating under 1000 calories a day? Nov 30 2007

If your body isn't getting the calories it needs to sustain itself it goes into starvation mode and clings on to the fat you have, for one thing.  Also at <1000 calories per day you probably aren't getting the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that you need to stay healthy.  I often get busy during the day and skip lunch too.  A good way to meet your caloric needs is to supplement your diet with healthy high calorie foods such as natural nut butters, low fat cheeses, or health supplements.  Good luck with your health goals!

avoid tonic water -- it has as many calories as sugar soda!

raspberry vodka & diet coke is good -- tastes like cherry coke.  any liquor w/ diet coke or seltzer water is your best bet.

another good idea is to bring crystal light singles, order a vodka & water and make your own lemonade (the bar lemonade is full of calories, so this is a good alternative!)

i have the same problem with my friends!  i try to avoid munching by inviting them for walks.  when we walk we're still catching up, but it's much more productive than sitting around snacking.  when we do go to the movies or just sit around i try to bring healthy snacks to share.  i've gotten my friends completely hooked on raw almonds, airpopped popcorn, edamame, and wasabi peas.  in a real bind i chew gum -- never leave home without it!

good luck!

you could cut calories by bringing your own sugar-free syrup.  it drives my husband crazy, but i bring my own diet condiments everywhere (syrup, salad dressing, mayo).  it's amazing how many calories you can cut this way!

600 is safe probably safe.  Unless it's the kind that is really big (like hangs off both sides of a paper plate) and the grease soaks thru the plate -- then it's probably around 800.  Sad.
