Weight Loss Has anyone tried alli? If so has it worked for you? Jan 23 2008

My older sister has been taking alli along with an exercise and diet plan since July or so, and she's lost about 50 lbs. She looks great. No one can really be certain how much the alli contributed I guess, but she seems to think it helps. And its FDA approved, so that's nice.
Foods Ground hamburger vs ground turkey Jan 23 2008

I am going to try using 7% turkey and h.h. tonite, it has to be good.

Also, I hear a lot of you saying that the really lean ground beef is "just as good if not better" than ground turkey- NOT TRUE! First of all the really lean GB is not good, the texture is rubbery and tastes nothing like regular GB. Bround turkey, on the other hand (7%), tastes JUST like regular ground beef.

Also, red meat in general is soooo much worse for you, even if the really lean kind does have fewer/the same amount of CALORIES as ground turkey, are we forgetting about fat and cholesterol?

Of course ground turkey is a better choice over lean red meat, any day, simply because it is not red meat!!
Weight Loss Do people do it because they're jealous? May 24 2007

At that height and weight, you are no where near even being chubby, let alone fat. You are probably what, like a size 4? That's super skinny (in a good way).

It might be different if you were like...borderline chubby and someone made that kind of a comment to you....in that case, the person might have just been being mean or hurtful. BUT in your case, since you are no where near fat, the person that said that was obviously having serious jealousy issues and wished that she felt good enough about herself to eat a candy bar.

So don't feel bad about eating it, or wonder secretly if you really are fat...you know that can't possibly be the case. The only possible explanation is that she has superlow self esteem, and she would feel better if you had low self esteem right along with her. But you DON'T! Right?

Thanks for all the responses, its good to hear what others think on a topic.

Yeah, about those Hungryman meals...not so good, hiei676...I only eat LC's because of their low-cal content and ok taste and convenience...If I wanted more food, I would make a REAL meal, like with fresh meat and veggies...i would never eat a regular Hungryman entree for any reason ever on this earth, and neither should anyone! Just my thought.

Fitness I hate my stupid gym... May 17 2007

I notice a different crowd at my gym, depending on what time it is. In the afternoons, its practically empty. Its filled with the made-up chics around 5-8pm, but i am guessing that they are wearing makeup because they came to the gym from work (and didnt wash their face). Who knows what they are doing all made up at 7am!

Honestly, even though they are skinny, they are probably made up like that because they want to feel better about how they look, and makeup does that for them. Everyone has insecurities, even skinny girls.
Weight Loss I should just get liposuction and get it over with...... May 16 2007

All I know is...I've seen some nasty "After" pictures with lipo. Soemtimes the area will be permanently lumpy because the doc took uneven amounts of fat all over. You can never ever fix that. Ugh.
Weight Loss Exercise? May 08 2007

20 minutes is just when your body STARTS to use stored energy (fat) to fuel itself, so you really need to do more than 20 minutes...more like 35-45 to make it worth the effort.
Weight Loss my husband thinks I am obsessed!!! May 08 2007

Yeah, he might be feeling insecure, even about losing you to someone else now that all these men are noticing you. Help him feel more secure by being openly affectionate and open with how much he means to you. Also, tell him that you really need his support right now, and that as your husband he is the one that is supposed to lift you up. Remind him of all the reasons you are on the journey (health issues, feel better about body, etc).

What you are doing is great, and is not unhealthy in any way (NOT walking too much! Its great!)...so you can be sure of that. If you want, run it by your nutritionist just to be sure, and then let your husband know you got the ok from her so that he stops trying to tell you its unhealthy.

Fitness excercise for lower abs???!!!! May 08 2007

I do normal cruches for my upper abs, and then for my lower, I lie on my back with my hands under my butt and my legs stretched out in front of me.

Then, I raise my legs (together at once) up to a 45 degree angle and then back down ALMOST to the floor but not touching it. Repeat until you cry.

That's right Laura_loo,

Sarah, remember Cardio is short for Cardiovascular, so it only makes sense that it pertains to heart rate and such. It is also used interchangably with the term "aerobic", again meaning exercise that gets your heart going.
Weight Loss The more I try to lose, the more I gain May 07 2007

ok so you say you are trying to lose but can't...but you are eating 2000cals a day...what are you doing to try and lose? Are you working out? If so, how much?

They say exercise is only 10% of weight loss--the rest is eating better (including cutting calories). So even if you are running like a beast, if you arent cutting your cals you probably won't see much of a change when you are so close to your goal weight.

You say you feel hungry and deprived at less cals...what are you eating when oyu eat less? Try eating more fiber...it fills you up and keeps you feeling full longer. Grape-nuts cereal, oatmeal, etc in the morning or as a snack always kicks the hunger for me.
Weight Loss Bedtime Eating? May 07 2007

jirachi- not true. Everything you eat before bed cannot just TURN to fat. It cant magically become fat in your body if it was fiber, or protein, etc when you ate it. Fat (and things that turn into fat like sugar) gets stored as fat.

I love a good old fashioned run on the treadmill! I alternate walking at 4.3 and running at 7.0-8.0, and make sure I hit 3 miles in 30 minutes. Great endorphin rush!

Weight Loss Activity log confusion May 04 2007

Clcik on expenditure - Its how many you burn being alive, which this site calculates FOR you based on your activity level (light, sedentary, etc), and then add in any additional exercise. Thats how many total you burn a day. dont add BMR, its already added into the number this site tells you when you click on Expenditure.

heck yes i am concerned! I think that's my main motivation right now. I onyl have like 10 lbs or so to lose, but man...i need to TONE! The backs of my legs are a mess, and i've got a mini-spare-tire going on as well. But We can do this!

Cardio is what's gonna get the chub off, and weights to tone. I am running 3 miles (in 30 min) on the treadmil 4-5 times a week, plus weight training on all those days as well. And of course eating well. Hopefully, that should do it! What's your plan?
Fitness handles May 03 2007

You can't spot target where you want to lose fat...its just genetics as far as where your body decides to burn it first. Sit ups don't burn tummy fat, side-bends don't burn lovehandles. They tone the MUSCLE underneath the fat, but that's it. Cardio and cutting cals is how to burn the most fat.
