So I'm down 0.8 lbs the first week. Not quite a full pound, but I'll take it. At least it's a start in the right direction again. SW: 225.2 CW: 224.4 GW: 205 UGW: 140 height: 5'4"

I'll join in too. I've been slacking off for too long and could use some motivation to get going the right direction again. Are we weighing in on Mondays or Tuesdays?

Sounds like "tennis elbow" or "golfers elbow", depending on where the pain is. Don't ignore it or it will just get worse. Google those terms. There is lots of go information online to get you started. My "tennis elbow" took three and a half years to finally get totally under control. Again, don't ignore it! |

When I first started out and was over 250 lbs, I did a lot of the Leslie Sansone "walking" DVD workouts. They are very doable at that weight and will still give you a great workout and help you to start building your fitness.

So, I guess most doctors and health practitioners are also in on this diet industry "scam"? Seriously, it's a known fact that eating right and exercising is the way to lose weight. Whether or not someone chooses to continue doing so in maintenance will determine if they keep the weight off or not. Most dieters go back to their old habits after losing some or all of the weight, which is why most don't keep the weight off. Sure, there are a lot of diet scams out there, but eating less and exercising more is not one of them! Oh wait, I see, you're just here to try and sell your book or whatever. I thought advertising on here was against the forum rules? |

This new system is just terrible. I've been using CC for many years and now I'm completely confused and starting to look at other options. Why on earth did they mess with it??? |

Hi! I totally understand where you are coming from!! I was about 260 lbs three years ago, started watching calories, working out, etc. and got down to 185. Started trying to run on the treadmil at about 210. I started the c25k a few times but would get bored with it quickly. I finally discovered that just jogging as long as a could and then taking walking breaks in between worked best for me. I did eventually tweak my hip and had to back off for a few months. When I got back into jogging, I discovered that I much prefer to do it outside rather than on a treadmill. The breeze alone is a life saver! Over the last year and a half, I managed to put 30lbs back on by not watching my diet close enough, but I have kept exercising. Even at 215, I'm able to go out and jog four miles without taking a break now. I'm slow as hell. It takes almost an hour, but I feel great afterwards and it is helping with my weight loss. I'm finally going the right direction again! One thing I've noticed is that my knees and other joints don't like concrete or pavement much. I'm lucky to have two different parks near by with 1/4 mile dirt tracks, so I've been running on them lately. It's much easier on my joints. I think once I get back under 200, the sidewalk won't be as rough on me, but for now I'm sticking with the dirt tracks. I still feel a little self conscious sometimes, especially when there are big groups of people having cookouts at the park and I keep running by them, but then I just tell myself that they are sitting on their butts stuffing their faces while I am runninig. What bad could they possibly be thinking about me?!! Good luck to you. Just remember to take it easy and listen to your body. Injuries suck and can really set you back. Oh, and go to a running shoe store and get professionally fitted for good running shoes. I prefer Brooks GTS myself. |

Hey gang! Sounds like some of you are doing great, that's so awesome! I'm still struggeling to get back in the groove a bit. I think I need to go back to planning and logging each day in advance so that I know may cals will be in line. Since Monday, I ended up with 2800, 1900, and 2600. That's definitely not going to do the trick. I know when I kept it between 1400 and 1600 and exercised consistently I lost weight. Now, just to get the routine in full swing again... |

Hi hazelcat08, I'm no means an expert at fighting cravings, since they still win from time to time; however, I've found that when craving sweets a diet soda (I know, bad but at least no cals) or a cup of coffee with some low cal creamer and/or sweetener will get my mind off of it. When I'm at home and get a craving for whatever, I've found that brushing me teeth actually helps! When at a restaurant, well that is my weakness, no clue how to handle it. Well, I did a lot better today. I'm at 1700 cals and will likely go to bed soon, so that should be it. It's not 1600, but it's way better than 2800. I also made it to the gym for an hour long training session. Hooray calorie deficit!

Hey, so is everyone getting off to a good start? Me, not so much :( I thought I was eating okay yesterday, but logged it at the end of the night and it all came to 2800 calories. Wow!! After years of logging cals, you'd think I would know how to "guess" better than that. Apparently, I need to stop guessing and get back to logging. Didn't make it to the gym either, but I have a training session tonight so I know I'll at least make that! Okay, so today is a new day. I'll get it right this time. |

Hey gals, can I jump in here too? I've been on CC for a couple year now. I originally lost about 70lbs, but have slacked off a bit too much in recent months and have gained back about 20lbs, yikes!! I used to have a great personal trainer who really helped keep me motivated and accountable, but he moved away. My new trainer is great with the exercise, but not so much with motivation and accountability. I also can't afford to see him very often either. So, looks like I need to learn to be accountable to myself. Maybe joining you guys with this goal is just what I need. I still need to lose about 75 lbs total. So, for my Monday morning weigh in, I'm at a dreaded 206.2 lbs this morning. I've been stuck just over 200 for a while now. It's driving me nuts, especially after I was under it for like a year! Hey, what about exercise? Shouldn't we set goals and report back to each other on that too? My goal this week is to work out at least five times between now and Sunday, starting with today after work. For calories, I'm looking to hit around 1600 per day. Maybe we can report our calories for each day of the week too, rather than trying to list everything we ate, even if we just post them all once a week or whatever. Okay, that's it for now! |

| Weight Loss | I was told to let my body rest...has anyone taken a week or two off and seen results afterwards? | Mar 16 2010 01:32 (UTC) |

I've taken a week off here or there when injured or on vacation and did not notice any increase in my matabolism or fat loss speed. However, I did find that my muscles and joints really appreciate the rest once in a while. For example, if my knee is bugging me, a week off it really helps. Good luck to you! |

Same problem here. I don't even come close to hitting the daily recommended potassium and eat a lot of supposedly high potassium foods. My calcium and iron seem to be low too. I thought I was eating enough dairy for the calcium and I don't eat red meat so the iron doesn't surprise me much. Oh well. |

It's really up to the person checking you ID. They're going to want to see something official with a picture along with that paper license. A passport would be best, but shool and work IDs will help. |

Just curious, how do you "know" you have a slow metabolism? Have you had it professionally tested, such as using that machine that you breath into for a few minutes and then it tells you your resting metabloic rate? I was convinced that I had a slow metabolism and finally got mine tested and found it was actually pretty normal. I apparently was just eating more than I should, even though it didn't seem like it. Unforntunately, there is not much you can do to speed up your metabolism, other than building muscle and doing some HIIT cardio. I guess caffeine helps too, but you said you don't want to take pills. Maybe add some green tea to your diet? I won't lie, I've been stuck in the same 15 pounds for over a year now. The first 60 came off pretty easily but once I got under 200, it just stopped. I know the problem though, it's my diet. I can eat perfectly during the week, but I tend to blow it on the weekends, hence the "plateau". I think what it comes down to is that we have to be a lot stricter with our eating now that we don't have as much weight left to lose. Good luck to you! |

If it's the one made by Labrada then I have tried it once and thought it was pretty good. I tried the chocolate one. They were giving out free samples at the local nutrition store. |

Great post Samantha! I actually subscribe to "Clean Eating" magazine, but haven't made many of the recipes yet. I'm not even sure what some of those ingredients are or where to find them! I guess I should look for them at Sprouts or Whole Foods rather than my regular grocery store, lol. I'll have pull out the latest issue andtry at least one of them after my next grocery trip. |

I agree with everyone here too. I avg anywhere from 25 to 50 grams a day with no problems at all. The only time I have any "problems" is if I don't get at least 20+ per day for a few days in a row for whatever reason. |

The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
