Weight Gain how many calories burned? Sep 03 2008

I went for a walk yesterday while my daughter was in dance class.  30 minutes of steady, quick walking, no slowing or stopping.  Enough to get my heart rate up and sweat some.  Using the activity log, you have to choose the speed - I guessed 3.5 mph, because that was listed as "brisk."

I was extremely annoyed to discover it only burned 158 calories.

One of the problems could be that you're tired.  If you're working all day and then going to school until 9pm, you might just be tired and dehydrated.  When I worked nights, I was always eating - especially junk food.  :(

I would say make sure to drink more water, especially in the afternoon/evening, and make your dinner and/or school snack more substantial.  Get some good protein and/or fiber to help you stay full.

If you have to have a snack (and have the calories for it), I have found that if I go to CC and log my calories for a snack, then eat only that snack, I'm okay.  If I just go to the kitchen and start eating, I'll eat way too much.

If you don't have the calories to spare and don't want to cheat, just do something else.  When I want a snack, if I can make myself get my mind off it for 15 minutes, the craving passes.  I play a computer game, clean something, take a shower, read a magazine...anything to stop thinking about food.

Weight Loss Is anyone trying the fiber 35 diet? If so, is it working for you? Aug 19 2008

I know that upping your fiber intake can help keep you from getting hungry, but it can cause problems for some people - especially if you increase the fiber too quickly.  I have IBS, and if I get very bad bloating and cramping if I have too much fiber.

I hear you.  I get it pretty bad some months too.  Being on the Pill made it sooooo much worse though.

Also - maybe the oranges last night caused your mouth sores?  Too much citrus can do that to you.

Just take care of yourself, and remember that it will pass.  Try not to feel guilty about it either.  Your 4 year old will survive, and will still love you just as much.  You're not required to be perfect, only to try your best to give him/her what he really needs (and at 4 years old, they don't NEED attention 24/7).  I have a 6 year old, and I always feel guilty when I'm short-tempered and/or moody with her, but it's part of life.  Just gotta try not to take it out on them, but needing space is okay too.  Remember - he (or she?) is not an infant, and will survive if you need to be left alone for a little while.

Really, it will be okay.  :-)

Well, I'd wait and see if it goes away within a day or two.  It could be a touch of a virus or something.  If it doesn't go away, maybe see a doctor.  It could be a problem with your digestive tract (parasite, virus, bacteria, etc).  It could be anything from a vitamin deficiency to simply being over tired, too.

Not to freak you out, but that's how I felt when I got pregnant.  I was queasy all the time (started within a week of getting pregnant), and had to eat constantly to make myself feel at all better.  I still felt nauseous, but eating helped.

I've seen lots of terrible movies, but I think the only one I walked out of the theater on was Battlefield Earth.  HORRIBLE.

whitetigress - If your husband hasn't been to a gastroenterologist, have him go.  I just went last week for an upper GI endoscopy (easy) and a colonoscopy (not so fun).  I had been have abdominal pain off and on for a few years.  They found a hiatal hernia for me, too.

Weight Loss ladies- birth control and weight gain?? Jan 28 2008

I haven't noticed weight gain issues (or at least not much) - and I've been on several different hormonal birth control pills plus the ring.  I did have other problems - depression, headaches, problems sleeping - and have been much better since I stopped taking any hormonal birth control.  The combination and severity of side effects was different for each bc I tried.

Since not taking birth control is not an option for everyone, I would suggest that if you feel like you're having side effects, try a different pill.  Everyone reacts to each pill differently - they all have different combinations of hormones.  My gyn didn't believe that the birth control was causing my problems, but it stopped as soon as I went off it.  So just because most women may not have the same issues you're having...doesn't mean you're not having them!

Thanks so much to everyone for your responses!

I made sure I had some jello and broth for the liquid diet day, and the prep was just as awful as everyone says.  But, I survived!  They should be calling me with lab results today, but he said everything seemed fine.

Thanks for the replies.  :)  My doctor had me start taking Miralax yesterday, so that should help.  I can't go overboard on the fiber, or I get bloating and cramping.  I have to be on a clear liquid only diet from Monday night until after the test on Wednesday.

dragoncomet00 - if you're saying your period lasts for a very long time and/or is very heavy...  I would check with your doctor.  That *could* be a sign of fibroids (my mom had it) or endemetriosis (several family members have had it).

Oh my goodness, I LOVE pop tarts.  My favorite is the low fat strawberry.  I think the low fat ones actually taste better than the regular ones.

Mmm...I want one...

Mixing popcorn with M&M's is awesome.

Fried egg on whole wheat toast with peanut butter.  It's the only way I like eggs.

Jalepeno poppers (jalepeno pepper, cream cheese, and breading - deep fried) dipped in strawberry sauce.

Graham crackers with anything chocolate (frosting, pieces of a Hershey bar, pudding...)

Refried beans, taco meat, and cheese all mixed up and melty as a dip for tortilla chips.

I agree.  I used to work 3rd shift, so I know what you mean.  As long as you pick a time that seems convenient to be your starting time, track every 24 hours from that (including on your days off).  If you want to start at 5 pm, that's fine - but keep using 5pm as the beginning of your day.

It doesn't really matter what time you eat, you just want to get an idea of what you're eating in approximately 24 hours.  Or, from the time you get up until the time you go to sleep.

Very true, wlmich!  If those kids get hurt at your house, even if their parents don't sue you (which they could), it might go against your homeowners' insurance and that would raise your insurance rates.

You definitey have a right (and I would say the responsibility) to stop this potentially dangerous situation.  Just look at the one kid who already got hurt on the treadmill!  Not your fault at all, but you've got to get them to stay off your property when you're not home.
