Thank you all so much. It really helps to have people to talk to about it. I know it's the best thing for me, but I'm so scared. I feel like I'm going to hate my body afterwards, and that they're going to make me gain way more than I want to...

So I guess it seems like Princeton is probably the better place to go... I know it doesn't make any sense, but I feel like I need to restrict a LOT before I go there, it feels like that's the only way it'll be justified that I go in

I live on the west coast so I am unfamilar with treatment centers in the eastern part of the US but I would really recommend going to a place with only women (18 and up), no teens.  If you can find a residential vs hospital I would recommend that but you can make a hospital program work but some people might be there against their will which can make it difficult, before you go create a book: write out your worst ED day, reasons to recover, why you r sick or ed, maybe print off some inspiration from CC or something fishy.com

I know you feel that you need to be the sickest, I felt the same way but if you go in with some nutrition you will be able to really soak up the therapy and learn coaping skills and fight ed better,

my current therapist who was my therapist in residential (she is now in private practice) told me that one girl "Molly" would come into therapy and say "Sara" is so thin and perfect and smart and pretty. then Molly would come in and say Sara is so thin and perfect and smart and pretty. So everyone thinks they are not sick enough and everyone is better and thinner and sicker but you are all sick no matter your weight.  When i was in treatment there was a girl who was of normal weight but much sicker than me: horrible heart problems (had to use a wheelchair), became paralyzed for a few months.  you are sick enough you need the help! you deserve it!

I think it would be best to get on this, we have untill we are 25 to really be able to turn it around beyond that it is very hard to live a full life without big leftovers of ED.

First go to residential I would recommend NOT going to one of those big "factory" treatment places like Renfrew or remuda ranch but a more intimate setting of 6-8 women.

Make sure you set up a step down program such as a day treatment(a few months, iop(a few months), then outpatient (therapist/nutritionist/doc) (indefinitly)

I think going inpatient, a residential treatment center not hopsital would be very helpful. you are "sick enough" ED are psychological illness, it does not matter what your weight or heath is.  Residential really helped me and brought me in touch with my feelings and mind-body connection.

Your sex-drive is definitly affected by your eating disorder, you can be a happier person once you learn coaping skills to combat your ED and gain full heath through nutrition.

Where are you located, maybe I can suggest a few places.

I wanted to let you know you can reverse this! In 2009 (I was 20) I had a -2.9 score. We have untill we are 25 to lay down bone, I have had a bone scan every year this year I was -1.7 (osteopenia). The most imporatant thing is to gain weight and get your period back because having a period releases the estrogen and helps build bone, keep up your calcium(take one in the am and one in the pm) and dairy, fortified oj, cheese, yogurt ect....

Weight Gain meals at home or out? Mar 18 2012

@lynn-good advice for those trying to loose however, this is the weight gain forum.

bella: you can take lynn's suggestions and do the opposite when you go out:

-eat it all or try to,

-don't eat a salad for a meal instead you could get a side salad with your meal with high fat dressing

-don't look up calories, instead pick something you would have enjoyed before ed.

thank you all for your wisdom, wonderful advice, I really appriciate it and attempting to breath in the thought of me being in control and that letting ED be in control is quite silly and only exsists in my mind it does not benifit my life in anyway....thank you

It is ok even good to rant! I too am trying to get on the last 5-10 lbs and am trying to get motivation. It is so important to get those last lbs on becasue it really protects not only your body from gettin a cold/flu but it will also will keep those ed thoughts at bay and make you unique because you will be a woman who listens to her body, and does wonderful things with her life versus worring about dieting and body image becasue you will not be in a constant state of dieting/starvation mind/body

First congrats on listening to your body, you didn't binge or do anything wrong, you just ate all the calories your body needs in a short amount of time, no biggie, if you spread it out it will help your energy, metabolism, and calm your thoughts because you wont feel as full.  You did the right thing listening to your body and feeding it, please don't purge in terms of actually vomiting, exercising, or restricting all those calories were wonderful healing medicine to your body. Below is a link to a meal plan for males with eds, I think it might be helpful to plan out a day or two just so you feel that you have control and can create some confidence in yourself... take care...

oh i'm sorry for assuming you had an ED Embarassed

The fats are great because they are so much eaiser to get in and also since you'll be eating more sometimes it takes the digestive system a while to respond to a changed intake and the fats and oils can lubricate...

first why did you drop cals to 2200? You need at least 3000 probably more like 4000 and if you want chocolate go for it! you have spent enough time restricting and being mean to yourself, it's time to be your own ally and listen to your body and treat it like you would a dear friend...

first this is what my dietitian prescribed for me, you are different and might need different things, but 18 fats is a lot yes but also fats are easier to eat than starches or fruits etc. because they r less bulk, also when in an ed it is soooo important to increase fats for skin, hair, brain, reproductive system, fats are amazing and yes scary

http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/weight-g ain/fats-11

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, meaning they can only be digested, absorbed, and transported in conjunction with fats. Fats are also sources of essential fatty acids, an important dietary requirement.

Fats play a vital role in maintaining healthy skin and hair, insulating body organs against shock, maintaining body temperature, and promoting healthy cell function.

Fats also serve as energy stores for the body.

Fat also serves as a useful buffer towards a host of diseases. When a particular substance, whether chemical or biotic—reaches unsafe levels in the bloodstream, the body can effectively dilute—or at least maintain equilibrium of—the offending substances by storing it in new fat tissue. This helps to protect vital organs, until such time as the offending substances can be metabolized and/or removed from the body by such means as excretion, urination, accidental or intentional bloodletting, sebum excretion, and hair growth.

While it is nearly impossible to remove fat completely from the diet, it would also be unhealthy to do so. Some fatty acids are essential nutrients, meaning that they can't be produced in the body from other compounds and need to be consumed in small amounts. All other fats required by the body are non-essential and can be produced in the body from other compounds.
