Ugh. Well, I had been doing really well but the last week has been tough. Saturday am I felt great, and was down 4 lbs in the last two weeks (to 146!)... but then spent all day in the car eating junk when we got out (taco salad 1900 calorie disaster!)... since then it's been rough. girlfriend having problems on Sunday = sympathy meal... brother's going away party = big family meal... tired on Tuesday = Mexican takeout (... although normally it would have been 2 tacos, double beans, and chips, but on this week I did my 2 tacos :oP, but then only regular beans and no chips!)... anyhow, by this morning I've gained back 3 pounds. I've also started a pretty intense weight lifting routine every morning all week (any crossfit people out there?), and while it doesn't torch calories like my cardio normally does, it *does* leave me starving and eating every stray cookie, danish, and bag of doritos floating around my work... so just frustrated!! :oP -- but trying to be good - did much better today, so let's hope tomorrow's weight check reflects that!! Good luck everyone! I enjoy reading about your successes, even when they make me jealous!! :oP |

Love it. Soo helpful to hear -- I know all those things, and am pretty good about most of them (and am * definitely* not the "I can't eat all 1200 of those big, mean calories!" people!) -- but still appreciate the educational, entertaining rant!! Thank you!! :o) |

Hi guys!! I'd love to join this group - I need some motivation right now!! I'm 29 years old, 5'4", and currently 148lbs. My goal is 135, and it's been tough -- I started in 2007 at 240, and over a year and a half got down to 130!! :o) -- but then in the last 2 years, I put about 20lbs back on!! :o( I'm super-active, (I ran a marathon last year - but gained 10lbs while training!!!) and love crazy workouts, but I really *really* love food!! -- I've been flirting around with 150 for about 6 months now, and I'm sick of it and want to get back in the mid-130s!! Unfortunately/fortunately, I broke my ribs last weekend during an obstacle course workout (it was awesome! :oP ) and can't workout more than walking for a little while. That part really sucks, but as a result I've had much, much better self-control with my eating!! I'm hoping be out of commission with exercise for a few weeks will help jump-start the diet part, which for me is way way waayyy more significant for weight loss than exercise!!! So I'd love to join in for daily weigh-ins and accountability!! Thank you all for your help!! |

Ahh, this Weight Watchers thing is tough... I'm having a harder time than I thought I would readjusting to watching what I eat!! :oP Of course, it doesn't help that the weather is cruddy and causing my sinuses to be cruel to me... thus giving me the perfect excuse to not get up and work out, but instead lie in bed and not-quite sleep while I feel sorry for myself... But I've been pretty good today, despite my belly rumbling... I have 23 pts per day (plus exercise points, when I do drag my butt out of bed!), which I've figured is roughly 1250 calories. I've used 10 so far, which (if I can make it 3 more hours!) saves me 13 points, or about 700 calories for Mexican dinner tonite... here's hoping!! :oP -- and I understand the bikini challenge. When I first lost my weight, I was thrilled to wear a bikini. But even only at 26, I had been so overweight for so long that my stomach was all stretched out and looked like I had had several children... Didn't stop me, though!! I was so proud to have lost all my weight I wore it anyway, and accepted all of the compliments of my friends and family who knew what I had done and ignored looks from anyone who didn't know me!! :oP
Anyhow... Starting point: 150 lbs Current weight: 148 lbs Goal weight: 130 lbs Original loss: 117 lbs :o) (still proud of that, even if I'm struggling now!) Backslide: 20 lbs :o( (less proud!)
Question: Do we have a goal? Like - lose 10% of our goal loss each week... or something? (I want to lose 18 lbs, so I would be aiming for 1.8lbs per week?) Or am I being overly ambitious?? :oP Just wondering! Good luck everyone!! |

Hi guys!! I love this group - perfect for me!! I had always been heavy, but in January of 2007, at 240 lbs, I decided to lose weight, which I did by counting calories and writing down everything I ate in a journal. By about December of '07, I was down a hundred pounds!! I hit my lowest weight in the summer of '08 (dipping into the high 120s!), before slowly gaining weight back in the last two years. I'm now pushing on 150, and would love to get back down to the mid-130s, where I feel like I was most comfortable... but I've really struggled with recording my calories and being as attentive as I was when I dropped all my weight! I'm super active (well, I have a fairly seditary job, but I run 5 or so miles almost every day, and ran my first marathon last November!), but I. LOVE. TO. EAT. I love ice cream and dessert and snacks and food and pasta and food and ice cream and ... :oP So last week I finally joined Weight Watchers, thinking that their plan is similar to calorie counting, but easier - maybe that will help me drop these 15 lbs again?? Looking forward to losing (again!) with you all, Kate |

| Weight Loss | excess skin - can it be avoided? | Mar 17 2008 20:52 (UTC) |

my 2 cents?
I think, depending on the amount of weight lost and how long you were heavy, some loose skin is inevitable. I had been heavy/overweight my entire life. I flew past 200lbs at the age of 17, and stayed up there for nearly 10 years. In the last year, I've lost damn near 100lb, fairly quickly - but with lots and lots of exercise built in to very carefully watching what I ate, and my loose skin has not been as bad as some that I've seen... I am young, but I attribute my skin managing to hold a fair bit of firmness to the lots and lots of working out (YOGA! RUNNING! SWIMMING! BIKING! YOGA! ELLIPTICAL! YOGA!). I have a soft tummy with firm muscles underneath, but am still holding 140lbs on a 5' 4" frame - but I'm super fit and healthy now, and am not planning to lose more than 5 or 10 lbs more, and very slowly on just-below-maintenance calorie intake. I have some arm skin flaps, but I attribute that to my Portuguese grandmother, since both of my *always* super fit sisters both have those, too. My least favorite is the flappy skin on my upper-inner thigh, but everyone promises me that it's completely unnoticeable unless I'm in my bikini (!! :o) ) and grabbing it to show above-referenced sisters! Is that helpful? It was kinda cathartic, anyway - good luck, and let me know if I can help |

Hi guys! This is just what I've been looking for - I'm 5'4", about 136 right now... down 100 lbs from a year ago! (yup, 100!!) - I lost the bulk of that weight in about 12 months, and in the last couple months I've been really, really stuck in the 135-140 range. I'd love to get comfortably into the mid-high 120s, but have been wholly unable to break through the low 130s! After losing so much weight, I am incredibly frustrated to be stuck so close to my goal! I work out regularly, count calories in a relaxed kind of way... and am stuck!!
:oP I'd love to chat and hear what you're all doing to drop those 10 pounds or so! |

team 2 - littlekt ooh, I'm still hoping I'm in time for points for my team -- Dancing Sat. nite - I figured 1 hour prob. spent actually dancing, abt. 300 calories And then... today - my first ever TRIATHALON!! YAY!!! 5k run = 430 calories 15k bike = 550 calories swim = 150* TOTAL (today) = 1130! *we were suppose to swim a 1/4 mile, but the gulf was incredibly wild and rough from the tropical storm that just went by, so we ended up struggling out to a bouy, rounding it, and calling it even - I spent about 10 minutes fighting with the waves (made it around the bouy!), and am calling it "vigorous swimming" for calorie calculation purposes. |

Hi Team 2! I finally made it by to introduce myself --
I'm 25, living in *hot* south florida, working to lose weight I've been carrying my entire life. Literally... I was 10lbs when I was born, and I have always, always been big - my weight stayed under control as a kid when I played sports and stayed active, but any time I stopped moving, I would quickly gain... after college, working full time and then meeting my disgustingly fit, high-metabolism, "no taste for fatty food" husband, I gained about 35lbs in a year trying to keep up with him (why did I do that??!) -- But since January of this year I've lost 44lbs now (woohoo!!), and am weighing in at 176 as of this morning - I'm 5'4", and having been over 170 since I was about 13, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself in the next couple months... I think my goal will be to stop at about 145, which will put me in the "healthy" BMI range... I'm also training for a mini-triathalon *next Sunday*, which has really helped me stay motivated and keep moving... 5k run, 15k bike, 1/4 mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico. My goal is to finish the whole thing in under 90 minutes... we'll see how it goes!! Okay - nice to meet everyone, and I will stay in touch - this accountability is great motivation for me. Good Luck everyone!!!!!! :o) |
