Danica,

I have heard (and sort of experienced) that your body requires a 5-10lb fat storage in excess of normal when breastfeeding and that after weaning (sucessfully) you will drop about half of that. I found myself stuck at 147 (about 10lbs bigger than normal), but I also wasn't dieting all that well, and I also worked out sparingly (maybe 1-2x a week for 30-60 mins) whereas pre-preg I worked out 6x/wk and it was hardcore workouts along with diet.

When I started this blog I was going through this phase where I "needed" carbs. Sweets and coffee were my biggest craving and I literally "needed" it. At that point my supply was plateauing (finally!!!!) and I could take about 3 hours rest between pump sessions. I think I was only pumping 25-30oz at work a day.

Now? I have noticed a dramatic change in the look of my body, and my milk, etc. I noticed Lucia isn't nursing to eat, but rather for comfort. She wants food, not milk, and she's better with a bottle (she's in daycare now 4+ mos and bottlefed 40hrs/wk). My supply dramatically decreased down to barely making 15oz a workday, and in addition my weight is dropping. I was 147 a couple months ago, and this month I dropped to about 141-143.

I've been trying to up my weight hoping it will increase my supply but it's looking grim! Lucia is just shy of 8 months now and I wanted to breastfeed for 12 months, but I'm not sure I can make it last at this point. I have about 1 month in reserves frozen but I'm stuck... Fenugreek works well but it's not enough to really up my supply to satisfy her needs... any pointers?

Ok! So today I wanted to get a good start to my day... which did start good... lol. But I had a few breakdowns. I'm hoping by being honest about my food/activity's I will need to take some accountability and change.

  • 7:30am- Egg White, Spinach, & Tomato wrap w/ Americano (Starbucks :D)
  • 8:30am - Stationary Bicycle (60 mins)
  • 10:45am - 4 Egg whites, Whole Wheat Toast, Tomato, & American Cheese, & 6 oz Orange Juice
  • 12:00pm - A very large brownie & coffee
  • 1:00pm - 3 oz Salmon, Iceberg Lettuce, Grape Tomatoes, & Cucumber
  • 3:00pm - Organic cardimum & coconut cookies (3 - and they're small)
  • 5:00pm - Onion rings, and a small brownie (Boyfriend wanted cheesesteaks for dinner and I couldn't resist)
  • 6:00pm - 1/3 of a half of a chicken philly cheesesteak (brownie killed my diet)
  • 8:00pm - 1 cup red seedless grapes

Does anyone see the issue here?? I'm seriously fighting the sweets! I do just fine on my diet - other than the sweets. I am hoping getting back into activity will slowly start to lower the sweet tooth. It was weird but after doing the bicycle for 60 minutes and then pumping (8oz from both) I got shakey and I felt like I was about to pass out if I didn't get something sweet in me ASAP.

I have read that bfeeding moms get the sweet tooth sometimes, but this is ridiculous.

  • Start Weight (pre-preg): 133 lbs (20 BMI)
  • Peak Weight (preg): 179 lbs

  • Pre-Preg Activity: Weights 3x/wk, Cardio 3x/wk

Yvette, my daughter was always "in postion" every time I went to the dr's... in fact it wasn't until I went into labor (around the transition stage about 15 hours into labor) that she turned and I all the sudden had back labor. They had me in all sorts of positions and she turned, and I got my epidural! lol!

Lembas!!!!!!! you're in the final stretch mama!!

My goodness you all are so close. For those of you experiencing this awesomeness for the 1st time... hold your babies so close they grow SOOOO fast. My daughter is already 16 weeks now and I just had to tell her she needs to get small and get back in my belly again.

And side note: Today I saw a good friend of mine back at work (yes I started work already, ugh ). She's 8 months preg with her 2nd baby (her first is only 11 months!!). It wasn't till I started back at work, realizing that I worked so hard to lose the baby weight (and I did), to realize how seriously ADORABLE it is to be preg! I honestly was jealous of my friend and her adorable huge belly!!! I told her she was beautiful and how much she makes me miss pregnancy.

Point of that story being that when you are huge, and you feel like a big fat whale, don't! Remember that many women cannot have children and should be so blessed to look your way and that you're big belly is totally 100% gorgeous :) (Stretch marks & all!!)

Oh, and lastly, Mederma Stretch Mark treatment works wonders. It's helped a ton post-pregnancy.

Ok that's all :)

Hello everyone!!! Well our babies are now a couple months old (mine is 11 weeks today) and we're all in different places than we were a few months ago!

How is everyone adapting? How's your diet/fitness regime going (if at all)? Are any of you back at work yet? Breastfeeding? (if it's not ok to talk about you can totally skip this! lol!)

For me, well I am down to 8lbs left to lose... which is good. I have only worked out 3x in a gym in the last month, I walk daily 2-3 miles, or I'll do a workout video. I feel pretty flubby but at the same time my self-confidance is high as I feel I look pretty good for just giving birth :).

Lucia sleeps pretty much through the night. We have her on a sleeping schedule: Nap 1- 10am-Noon, Nap 2- 3pm-5pm, Bedtime- 8:30pm till whenever... and we co-sleep so I sleep till she wakes me up around 6-7am. She is a chunker: 80th percentile for height and weight and 75th percentile for head circumference.

And breastfeeding... well I am feeding her AND my neighbors baby (her milk supply has failed her) in addition to storing some excess milk in my deep freezer... I am literally the neighborhood cow. lmao! But I feel really happy about helping someone else, really happy.

And... am I crazy that I would love to have another kid within the year? lol!! I think so!

Reedikulus,

I fell belly-first onto a curb at 8 mos preg. I swear I have never seen so many people stop their cars and freak out in my life. I guess all the amniotic fluid protects little boo... ;) So don't worry. But seriously relax and allow time to heal as it sounds like you really bruised yourself :(

For everyone else - I have been totally reading up and you all seem like you're doing so well!!! I am so happy for all of you :) I can't wait to see some of you post the "He/She's here!!" posts! :) My little bean is 6 weeks today and I really can't wait to have another lol!!!

Much <3 to all you new mamaz! :)

Hey Lacey!

Are you breastfeeding? I know that helps a ton (not really for me but its what I hear lol). I gained 43lbs in total, if I go back to my normal weight of 135lbs. When I got preg I was 127lbs getting ready for a photo shoot... I only wish to get to 140lbs bc I know my boobs have to weigh about 5lbs (normally I have no boobs and now I'm a small D cup).

I lost 10lbs having her, and another 10lbs of water within the first week of her birth. Since then I plateaued. I recently started walking a mile or two with her & my labrador daily and while I'm not counting cals I am watching what I'm eating (mainly for the quallty of milk I'm producing). So now I'm down 24lbs @ 6 weeks pp... and I have 14lbs left to lose.

Oh and I would optimally like to be a size 6 by the time I return to work in 10 weeks (which means I'd need to lose about 10lbs more) but I also am concerned about "drying up" and I want to bfeed for 1 year. So weight loss is kinda a secondary priority, lol!

And I'm with you... I totally want another one lol! I would ask the bf for another one now but I think he'd think I was insane! ha ha! So I am on birth control for a year and I'll talk to him then... lol ;)

And yeah, I live in a busy area of San Francisco Bay but I still loved to be uin this thread of ladies. I really like hearing all your experiences :)

Yay Juju!!!!

Has anyone started watching their weight or calories yet? I know I'm only 21 days pp, but I'm definitely watching what I eat and I've been working out
(very slightly... just lunges, squats, arms, shoulders, and a little abs for about 10-20 mins a day with 8lb dumbbells) and so far I've lost 20lbs... still another 18 more till my goal, lol, but I figure I've got a ways to go before I'm back at work. Is anyone else dropping weight this fast?

Hi nyc!

I'm so glad to see everything is going well for you!! I've been silently watching this thread getting more and more excited for you :) Are you going to find out what youre having??

Regarding the random pains: not to say it's "nothing" but you'll experience pains in your stomach throughout pregnancy. I got it first in my lower stomach in between my hip bones (round ligament pain I guess? Thats what the doc said is for the lower abdomin pain and soreness). Also don't forget that baby's get HICCUPS in the womb... also if the baby is moving and kicking in that area or backed up against your belly button she/he might be compressing a vein and that's what you see throbbing.

Also don't forget around 4-5 months your body goes through a rapid change. You suddenly gain about 4lbs of blood. The baby doesn't need all this blood at first. You can feel headaches, light headed, swelling of hands or feet (if you do have swelling of the hands tho watch your bp in case of high bp or toxemia which occurs in overweight or "older" moms - although I don't know your status). By 6 months this will all go away as the baby needs more blood but you'll develop a whole new set of symptoms.

The last 3 months of pregnancy I had soreness of my stomach (my actual stomach). Baby was in position from 6 mos onwards and so she was actually kicking my stomach. While I couldn't feel her kicking it, it caused my stomach and muscles around my stomach to feel bruised. Random but hey, whatever. ;)

Good luck & much <3 to all of you and your little bella bambino/bambina's. :)

Hey all!

Sorry I've been away. 15 Days late, and about 2 hours before induction, Lucia Isabelle was born. Cinco de Mayo baby - go figure she was celebrating lol!

7lbs 3oz and 20 inches. I started labor at 4:30am very lightly. Woke up around 10am with more contractions. Labored at home until 8pm, got to the hospital at 8:30pm at 5cm with terrible back labor; got the epidural by 9:45pm. By 10pm I was 8cm. By Midnight I was at 9.75cm (I know so frustrating right??). By 4am I was a full 10cm and ready to push. Started pushing at 4:10am, and 4:30am Lucia came here. Took about 14 sets of 3 pushes to get her out totally, but it was amazing and I wouldn't have changed anything. :)

I am so excited for everyone here and I hope everyone has been doing well and sleeping. :)

Much <3!

Hey all!

So I still have not had Lucia yet... They keep sending me back and back and back and I feel pretty frustrated. I am huuuuuge. Baby is literally like a torpedo ready to fire! lol.

So the nonstress-test on the 20th basically they just said she is fine, my fluid level is fine, and since I am at 2.5-3cm I am "progressing" on my own and they said they would rather wait for her to show up than to induce. Especially since I want to go 'drug free' (if I can). Pitocin will be the induction method if they have to do it. I was instructed to come back in a week but since both midwives and dr are on vacay in a week I have to come back in 9 days. So the 29th it is.

I know it sounds lame that I am frustrated but I want my little one here already! lol! I have "fake labor" just about every other night and I get so many cramps its ridiculous. I don't sleep more than a few hours, but I have no cute little girl to wake up to so I feel cheated! lol! Oye!

Btw, I <3 the name Lola!!! Too cute!

Today is my official due date and nothing seems happening but I'm perfectly fine with that.  If one more person asks me if I'm still pregnant though, I might freak out.  Every day for the past week I've gotten at least five texts/calls/emails asking if I've had the baby yet.

I feel like saying "Oh yeah, I must have just forgotten to tell you.  I had her a couple days ago."

I don't know if I'm just being hormonal but I feel like when they say "You haven't had her YET?!" it's just as insulting as asking "You've gained HOW MUCH?!"

LMAO! I completely agree. I let all my friends/fam know in the beginning that April 1st was only the guesstimate by the midwife since I don't get a normal cycle and since the "date of conception" was really unknown. I get a text from my co-workers askin "Baby Status??" daily, and then posts on my FB asking the same thing from other co-workers. lol, I feel like saying "Just don't ask".

My neighbors are ridiculous, "When you gonna pop little missy???" every day. It's like... if I knew I would have continued working so I wouldn't run into you everyday! lol! Is this snappy mommy syndrome or is it that I just don't want to hear the same question 5x a day?

Lacey,

I have been at 2cm since 28 weeks... the way I figure it is that's 2 less centimeters that we don't have to dialate! lol!!

Smart_Girl,

I'm so jealous! I really want my little boo to be here by now. Somedays I get the false labor, and most days after a lot of walking I can feel her engaged and I'm soooo sore. But idk I haven't had any real stress and I think that is the same for her. Why are they inducing you early?

I also wanted to say I think it's really odd that in my last appt they didn't do an internal exam. And my doc never says how "effaced" I am... only about 2 appts ago she said my cervix was short and no longer as thick as she'd like. (I was probably 35 weeks). She did say that she thought the baby was about 6.5lbs and 19 inches when she "felt" her positioning, but idk. I'm trying to have faith but I kinda feel like Kaiser Hospital is just being "lazy" about all this... or on the other hand maybe I'm stressing too much?

So ever increasingly I have been getting contractions, cramps, and the most recent (and really unpleasant symptom) is nausea and the big D... ugh! It's been rough. Every 2-3 nights I go into "fake labor" and it feels like I am about to start my period, so I wait it out and wait and wait and wait and wonder will it finally progress? Will I need to go to the hospital? But 5 or so hours later I am tired and I sleep and typically I have only a couple hours of sleep before nightmares set in and Lucia wakes up when I wake up from the nightmares and then I can't fall back asleep bc I have a 7lb baby doing flips in my stomach.

And all the while I really know that as painful as birth may be, I just am "tired" of being prego. I don't hurt or anything but darn I wanna see my baby and start being a mom! lol!!

Anyone else getting contractions?? We are all so close!!

Hey SmartGirl!

Still here - no baby yet lol! I go on Thursday and depending on her size, and distress level I may have to be induced. I think the docs have had a hard time getting my due date precise since I never get a cycle and I had sex just about everyday so while I am definitely ready to pop by now, I just have no clue when. lol!! I have had some increasing contractions and some serious pressure but nothing concrete.

And yes I hear that about 30% of all women come up pos for GBS and that all that is done is antibiotics are given during labor - but mainly nothing is done in extra precaution. I wouldn't worry ;)

For the induction - well I am nervous for ya. I know it's much more intense and painful than natural birth but well, we'll see how it goes. I may be on the same road as you! Little Lucia & Little SmartGirl might have the same birthday! lol!!

I can't wait to hear about your u/s, nycgirl. Keep us posted :)

Mel, that sounds amazing. I will probably get one of those. I have seen the 3d photos from a few of my friends' u/s but I haven't seen a video. It sounds incredible. It was so amazing seeing my u/s the other day and we couldn't even clearly see the baby. I can't imagine the emotions that will come once the lil bean gets a bit bigger and more clear. I am so excited!

It's crazy bc you're "fetus" becomes suddenly so real... it's pretty much exactly how your baby will look when they arrive, and it's so odd to see them move and look around and when they move their arm you feel it and watch it on the screen... it really bonded me to baby so very much.

And it sounds like you're progesterone is starting to raise again (I think that's the hormone which prevents misscarriage and promotes sickness). Just rest it up mama! :)

That's so exciting april_bride, aren't the ultrasounds just amazing?

littlemalynda, I have my 13 week 2 day u/s tomorrow, so I hope to see all that movement you are talking about!

Yay!!!!! Oh that's so exciting!! Btw, I gotta say, when you get to 20 weeks (if you plan to do the 3d/4d ultrasound) start drinking TONS of water and avoid coffee or teas - it takes a few weeks to up your amniotic fluid. I scheduled my 3d/4d for 28 weeks, which is a great time to do it if you're having just one. It's the week when the baby appears most like they will when they come out, they still have enough room to move around, and they will have all their facial expressions. I had to drink about 6-7 bottles of water per day (which is a ton for me) and I got a hour long video and about 100 color pics of her. She yawned/swallows fluid, has her eyes open almost the whole time, she grimaces, and smiles, and stretches. It was so beautiful I honestly still watch the video like once a week... and it was about $110 so it was WELL worth it for me :). The most startling thing was seeing her tug-a-war with her umbilical cord... yikes it looked painful but I guess it's "designed" for that.

For all you mom's not quite there yet I think you should look into it, as I highly reccomend it... and if you want to see any good pics I am happy to share :)
