Thanks for all the tips!  I'm not quite 5ft tall and a girl so that is why every calorie calculator recomends 1200 a day.  It is the one thing that really sucks about being so short.  There is less "healthy" body to maintain than a taller person so naturally it takes less calories to do so.

For the fruit question, yes I am allergic.  Eating fresh fruits makes my throat itch and swell and causes me to break out in hives.  The reaction is stronger or weaker depending on the type of fruit, so I just don't chance it.

I'm definetly going to try whole grain cereals, soups, mini muffins and the steamed veggies with seasoning sounded kinda good too.

Well, I just logged back on a few days ago and am not really on track yet.  My typical day the last six months would look like this.. Also FYI I am allergic to all fresh fruits except apples.  I can drink juice and eat highly processed fruits in small quantities (like in yogurt).

Breakfast: Anything from ceral to leftover pizza

Lunch: Fast food combo meal

Dinner: Something homemade and pretty low fat

Snack: 2-3 a day- chips, candy, other bad stuff

Other:5-6 regular beers

Here is what I want my day to look like..

Breakfast: Cereal w/ skim milk or Apple w/ fat free muffin

Lunch: Turkey Sandwich or Veggi Burger w/ either LF chips, salad or soup

Dinner: Something homemade and low fat

Snacks: 2-3 pretzels, hummus, apples, yogurt

I'm just having trouble making the leap to healthy eating without feeling like I am starving

Well, I think it's both.  A good amount of my sugars are coming from foods like milk, juice (i try to drink 1 glass a day since I am allergic to most fruits; but, can drink processed 100% juice), yogurts, low fat ice cream, nutrigrain bars, etc.  I also drink 16 oz of homemade iced tea each day with 1/2 cup sugar per gallon.  I put that recipe into the recipe thing here and it seems to be a kinda high in sugar; but, I think that recipe is light on sugar compared to how most people make sweet tea.

I guess that's what I'm not sure of.  I typically workout with 3 lb weights; but, I'm about to graduate to 5lb weights.  Do you combine the lbs of both weights to get what size ball you should use?  If my 3lbs weights are too easy does that mean a 6lb medecine ball would also be too easy?

I'm very short (less than 5ft tall), so that's why I'm on the low end of the calorie spectrum.  The calorie calculator recomends 1200 per day for me and I can tell you when I used to be skinny, 1200-1400 a day is what I consumed for many years to simply maintain my 110 lbs.  I love being short; but, it does have its drawbacks.  It would be nice to be taller and be able to eat more on a regular basis without it going directly to my hips, thighs, tummy and just about everywhere else.

Thank you!  This is good info.  I do realize my current diet is high in carbs and sugars.  I'm going to look into more low gi options and make some adjustments  here and there.  I figure this is a process and as long as I'm heading in the right direction, I'm going to end up where I need to be.

I just started logging everything I eat yesterday.  I too am curious to see those numbers and I'm already seeing my diet is deficient in certain key nutrients.  I eat VERY low fat; but, around 1200 calories (or a little less) each day and that is consistent with what I know I ate when I was a skinny gal.  I think I need to add more whole grains, green veggis, potatos, juice (can't eat the fruits due to allergy except apples), beans, oats and total type cereals.

What is the BMR?

Cringing over here.  I had a feeling somebody would call me out on all the fake food I eat.  Actually if you saw how I was eating 8 weeks ago (when I was not trying to make a lifestyle change) you might have keeled over from a heart attack.  I was practically living on fried foods, fast foods and anything that had at least 30 grams of fat per serving.  Seriously.  I am trying to slowly incorporate more heatlhy choices into my diet; but, the fruit allergy makes it very difficult for me to eat all healthy stuff expescially since I have a real sweet tooth.  I am working on it though and I will take a harder look at what I am eating and see where I can make some better choices that I can live with.

Ok, I picked up 3 Biggest Loser workouts at lunch today.  Cardio-Max Weight Loss, Cardio-Max and Power Walk.  I'm going to alternate all three dvd's for the next 10 days and see if that helps.  I'm going to eliminate my lunchmeat sandwiches and eat my "dinner" at lunch and breakfast foods for dinner since I get home from work so late and would like to make that a smaller meal.  For breakfast I'm going to stick with yogurt, nutrigrain bars and maybe raw veggis with yougrt dip.  Snacks too.  I can't live without snacks.  Hopefully this workout schedule, lower sodium and eating my biggest meal mid-day will help.  I'm also going to work in an extra snack of apples and caramel or raw veggis with yogurt dip each day to help up the calories a bit and chocolate skim milk if needed.

You are right; but, I'm not expecting 12 lbs weight loss in a week.  If I was keeping up with a 1-2 pound weight loss I would be content.  As long as I was still loosing.  That's the key.  This crap of being at the same weight for 10 days when I have not cheated even once (even though we get free Dunkin Donuts every Friday at work as well as authentic Mexican Taco's for $1 on Friday's, as well as attendign one pot luck meal, two birthday parties and eating out at a restraunt) and have kept up with a good exercise routine is very frustrating.

Can anybody reccomend how to switch up my workout routine?  I do not have a gym membership.

Ok, so what you are saying is that I need to eat a little bit more.  The thing I don't understand is that on The Biggest Looser they eat about the same number of calories a day that I am eating, work out twice to three times as hard and they are loosing tons of weight.  Litteraly.  So what gives?

I'm very short too (just under 5ft tall) and most calorie calculators recomend I eat around 1200 calories a day.   For most women this would be too little; but, most women are not as short in stature as I am.  I would NOT reduce 500 calories from 1200.  No matter how short you are this would be way too little.  If I were you I would work in cardio 5 days a week for 40-60 minutes a day if you want to loose some more weight.

I love, love, love The Melting Pot!  For me it's all about the cheese appetizer and chocolate dessert.  I can take or leave the main course; but, I do enjoy the salads alot.   They have a great spice topping for their salads.  Don't look for anything low calorie here though!  This is more like a special cheat day.

Got it.  That's totally understandable.  It sounds like you need to consume more calories than the average person to maintain a health weight.  You might want to add more healthy high calorie foods to your regular diet.  Try eating more nuts, peanut butter, potatoes and pasta.

It definetly sounds like you are still battling your ED.  For your height you are awfully thin.  You may not want to hear this; but, it sounds like you need to be monitored by professionals and may need some counseling still.  Think about this, if you have battled ED for many, many years you may have no clue what "normal" is for you becasue you were never able to allow yourself to experience that.

I'm sending big hugs your way and warm wishes that you will win your battle with ED!

Fitness Post-Surgery Cardio? Feb 25 2011

A good Physical Therapist can tell you what your safe options are.  After breaking my elbow this summer and having to do 5 months of physical therapy to regain the motion in my arm I found they are MUCH more highly trained than I had thought.  I would let your PT know your cardio concerns and schedule an extra appointment to discuss and learn your cardio options.  Trust me, that would be money well spent.

Here's another thought.  Look into exercise options for wheelchair bound individuals.  If you have a neighboorhood with good sidewalks you could probably hop in a wheelchair (if you can afford one) and hand cycle your way around to get your heart rate up.  Again though, I would consult with a PT.  The LAST thing you want to do is injure your leg any further!!
