Hey Ladies!  Nice to meet you Tropical!!!

Hope every one had a great Christmas and New Years!!  I ended up with laryngitis so... not really my best holday season ever.  But I'm hopeful for a great New Year.  My last semester went really well academically, though my health isn't so great.

Misty - I didn't know your son started school, congrates.  I understand what you mean, it is really hard to understand the importance of classes and such when your fresh out of high school.  But I do wish him luck.   Tacking and grooming sound slike a heck of work out to be honest.  i've only ever been around horses a few times in my life, but there is definately hard work involved in the venture.

So New year, no resolve I hope.  Today is my first day back on the wagon.  I'm not evening trying that hard yet.  My whole plan for this week... count everything and cut down the soda.  School is creating quiet a soda addiction for me.  So first things first I guess.  See where I am at.  Then make small changes till I am where I want to be.   My goal is small and manageable.  Be 12lbs lighter by May 2nd.   I think i can manage that.

Hope every one else is starting their new years strong.   Good luck with the cutting phase Penny!!!  Good luck with getting back on track Misty and Tropical, I know I need some good luck!

Yup, I second Misty!  We are always gald to see new people.  Nice to meet you capojop!

Wow, the horse sounds interesting misty.  I'm not sure I could jump into something like that but good luck.  Hope your holidays are going well.

Penny - that sound samazing and really hard.  You ahve some serious determination girl.  A quarter million pounds?!?!  Just Wow.  I'm envious.  Good luck!!!

Me I'm still half counting and half not.  I'm defiantely trying to make sure I don't gain back any more this year at school LOL.   The scale has been hanging out at 175lbs.  I just can't seem to commit to being strict enough for real wieght loss at the moment.  i do good for a few days and then I'm organizing a bake sale or a pizza party for The History Club on campus.  I know it's just a matter of will power and determination.... it just feels like all that is being used up on classes and academic type stuff right now.

still I have been really good at counting this week, and have a deficit for 2 out or 3 days... (( I technically have one for the 3rd day too, but 50 calories doesn't really count.))  I haven't been on the scale in two weeks so I am going to have to bite the bullet and weigh in monday.

Good luck with your holiday plans ladies!!!!   I'm glad to hear from every one and know that your still out there and kicking!!

Misty?? Penny?  Hope you guys are doing well and its good things that keep you away from your computers.

No so great for me I got a little cocky about the 5lb drop and slacked off.  so I'm back up to 180lbs and trying to make sure I don't slack off any more.

You all alright?

hi Dege.

heh I know what you mean about the dress I have a dress like that.  My goal dress.  The one I will wear again darn it!   Lol I think that kind of goal is so much better then numbers goals.  Good luck gettng into your dress!!!

Wow Penny you are right back on top of things!!!  Glad to hear it's going well and the family is getting involved!!   I really admire your determination... things like that have a tendency to throw me out of wack.  It's really great your back on track!!!!

well I'm officially 2 weeks back on the wagon I'm still running a little over my calorie goal but according to my scale I'm down 5lbs!!!  So i must be doing something right.   I'm a little suprised but on the other hand I remember that the first time I started calorie counting I dropped pretty fast the first 2 months or so... and then it just got steadily harder and slower after that.  So I'll take it and enjoy it for now.

Hope you all are doing well!!!

Marililou -  Congrates pn everything you've accomplished!!!  That's amazing!!   It is hard to accept yourself as you are.  But if you really felt beautiful in 14L and now feel great in a 12M then that's what's important.  Everyone gets caught up in the numbers game some times... and your right you just feel huge every time that scale swings up and down.  I think every one does that.

I hope you can accept yourself and feel great about your new body.  Just consider that the average American woman is a size 14... at a 12 your smaller then average!!!  Try hard not to let yourself fall into the numbers game with the scale.  The scale is just a tool, like this site, or a measuring cup.  That number by itself doesn't mean a thing,  how you feel matters.  I hope you can recapture that feeling you had after you first lost weight, and hold on to it.

Welcome to the group we are glad to have you and look forward to hearing from you more!

Hey Misty!! Hope your taking care!!  penny how are you?

We get a little odd sometimes, wonder away, wonder back.  But every chicka on here is an awesome chick.

I an just getting back on the wagon myself. kinda was suppose to be on maintain till I adjust to universoty life.....  never really quite adjusted.... and so I've been a year off the wago.  I had list 40lbs... I gained back 20...  *sigh*   my official weigh in this morning was 182Lbs.   I'm ashamed.   But I did track everything today.  I was brutally honest.   I over ate my mark,   so no deficit,  but no surplus either.

Hope you all are keeping positive!!!  WE can get back on th ball.

Penny I am so glad your healing up so well!!!! Yay!!!

Healthyallie... you'll probably actually be pleased to know that I didn't count any one aiming for a BMI of 20 or higher in that number.    In fact the majority of the women who responded to this thread seem to have healthy, sane goals.

I did make a mistake though... when I said 9 aiming for the extremely low end of healthy and 4 aiming for underweight... that's actually 8 and 5.    by extremely low end of healthy  I mean anything below 20 and by underweight anything below 18.5, as the experts tend to classify things if any of the reading I've done is at all accurate.

What is actually more worrisome to me is not the number of girls and women trying to push themselves that far....  it's the number of people with healthy realistic goals, who know better,  not saying anything to these girls...  and some in fact encouraging them.

There are so many better ways to get your body into shape... even lose some flab.  When your already at a healthy weight one should really consider that losing more weight will not get rid of flab... and will in fact in all likely hood lead to a look often called skinny/fat.  Meaning your body will get rid of muscle weight still leaving small pockets of fat and loose skin... you'll loose weight... but you probably will not look the way you want to.

Please i encourage people to check out muscle building and toning as an alternative to extremely low weights.  I mean you put all that effort into counting calories and restricting... why not move some of that motivation over to fitness.  Do you really want to be dieting forever just to maintaine a really low weight...?  specially when with the same amount of mental energy you can get yourself a workout routine, lift some weights and perhaps get to a point when you can maintaine the body you want and enjoy your body and your food a whole lot more?

Well this is interesting, being only 5'7" I guess I don't count as a really tall chick.  However I'm a little concerned that you ladies are congradulating yourself on your realistic goals when 9 of you are aiming for extremely low wieghts and 4 of you are aiming for BMI's under 18.5....  which is clinically under weight.

Ladies all of you aiming for a low wieght are already at a very slender healthy weight.  I know I am going to get the reply that your all just naturally small.... however... the likely hood af all 13 of you being that naturally small is very tiny.  And if you where naturally small.... you wouldn't be dieting to get there.

have you considered skipping the dieting and working on building muscle and toning???  You may get the slender look your after without aiming for an extremely low and in some cases dangerously low weight.

I'm 5'7"  and I cerrently weight about 180lbs.  I'm aiming for 145... in all honesty anything below 140 and I look skelatal.... and start to loose my breasts.

I don't mean to be a pain but this sort of thing is a slipper slope.

@bethann -  your currently at a BMI of 17.6.   Since you have been through recovery you know that isn't good.  Maybe it's time to really look at that.

Hey Penny glad to hear that the surgery went well and your recovering.  All that walking sounds great!  Lol though I know your probably impatient to get moving again.   Still 10 hours a day???  However do you manage that???

Hope things are still going well with you and your recovery.  Hope your holiday weekend was fabulous!!!!

Hey Misty,  139lbs on weigh day is good right??  Hope you had a good 4th!!

I didn't do much for the 4th.  Wasn't a horrible weekend though.  Wish I had some thing to report but honestly getting back on the wagon seems to be harder then getting started was way back when.   I get on the scale once in the last few weeks and... well it says 181lbs!! Ack!!!

I'm finding those number hard to swallow.... I mean I'm still wear the same pants i did at 161lbs.  One pair is a little tight... but other wise everything still fits.   Blahhh.

At this point I'm just starting over.  As of today my big goal is just to log everything for a week.  Then Once I have a look at things I'll start making adjustments again.  It sucks feeling like I'm starting over but I can't think of what else to do.  LOL.

Anyway I have hope.

To the new folks welcome and keep posting.  The journey to a healthier life is not easy but it is so worth it.  And sharing always helps.

Kiwi, congrates on your lose so far.  You didn't share your age but we are the same height.  I look forward to hearing more from you!!!

and hey Spinach-Spy. sorry I didn't say hello before I wasn't paying attention.  Welcome to the group!!!

Losing 30 pounds is great!!!!   Just remember, getting the body that you want isn't just about weight loss.  Building muscle helps a lot with making you thighs and such look they way you want.   Maybe one of the girls can suggest something for firming and toning your legs.

Congratulations on your weight loss!!! you should be proud!!!!

Hay ladies!!!  Hope every one had a great memorial day weekend!!!!

I ended up heading out to camp with my grandmother and Aunt....  the camp has a heated swimming pool and I spent most of friday and saturday in the pool.  I probably over ate a bit that weekend but I also got a lot of exercise.

Still having issues with the running and keeping track bit.  But I'm trying.  The days i do keep track I'm not doing horribly.  LOL.  Forgot to weight in this week though.  So I'll hit the scale tomorrow or monday.

How is your knee annie?   every one doing alright!

Annie - actually walking is my big excersise as well.   Or was when I lost my 45 lbs.  most days I just walked for 20 minutes... which at my pace was about a mile, every day.  With occasional big walking, like the 3 hours of hiking I did yesterday lol.   Walking is great for a bad knee too.  I have a knee brace for bad days.  I assume you have one as well?    Glad to see your feeling more positive!!!  and congrates on the string of good days!!!

Misty - congrates on the 140!  Yay for medications without weight gain side effects!

I am having mixed success myself.  My summer is turning out to be very busy.   I am running from place to place visiting people and not eating as I should.  Last monday was an hour and a half drive to a doctors appiontment followed by errands and a date and I didn't get home till nearly 3am!!!  Wendsday I was off to my grandmothers and went to bingo with her, didn't get in till after midnight with the hour drive.  Went down to hang with friends saturday and returned sunday.  Yesterday another doctors appiontment and date I didn't get home till 4am!!!!

I'm practically living in my car!!  On the bright side I did wonderfully Thuresday and friday with my eating habits and I'm getting a decent bit of exercise.  LOL.

I guess I just need to come up with ways to deal with all this running.

In other news I finally weighed in this morning..... 179lbs.  I gained 10 lbs the last few weeks of school I suppose the stress of finals and chocolate brownies did me in.   I can't imagine that I really gained 10 lbs in three weeks.  Some of it has to be odd wieght from my crazy lack of routine and decent eating.  It's not my scale either... the doctor's office said the same thing yesterday.  *sigh*

Time to crack down and work on this I suppose.

Hope you guys are doing better!!!

Annie!!!  I am so sorry your knee is still giving you trouble!!!!

I know it seems like a huge pain to deal with th weight without running, and it can be.  But your right it is possible.  I lost 45 pounds without serious exercise like running.  I had to with my health.   It gets easier and less miserable feeling after a little bit.  Though I sympathize... since I've been off my diet mostly since september it is a huge pain getting back on it.

Man i am really sorry your knee and ankle are giving you such problems, I know how much you really enjoyed running.   The walking is good right?

Do be careful and take care of yourself!!!  I really hope it all works out.  I wish I had better advice but my luck with doctors and them figuring out problems hasn't been that great.   Hang in there!!! and don't give up, when you find one road blocked there is always a second one!!!

Well the semester has been over for a week and a half.  So HI!!!

Misty, 142 isn't bad at all.  Seems like your getting things under control.

Penny... what surgery?  I hope everything is alright?  man I missed a lot.  I would stay well away fromt he scale for a few after surgery though, no real telling what will be going on with recovering and all.  Good luck!!

Finding it a bit hard to get back into the swing of things myself.  I haven't had the nerve to get on the scale yet either.  *chuckle*  Monday I will though.  It would be good to know.

Man for the longest time counting had gotten so easy now I am really out of the habit and it seems a real pain.

Hope every one is having a good week.

Hi ladies!!  I know it has been an age and a day since I dropped by.  I am alive!!!  In fact I spent over an hour catching up and going through the posts I missed.  You have all been so busy and had so much happen.

I managed to get through my first semester as a full time student with a 4.0 and I am well into my second semester.  I got approved for my minor and double major.  I have to say I'm exhausted.  *chuckle*

Penny glad to see things have gone well.  Your new pics look amazing!!! Congrates on reaching your goal and then some.  I am just astounded, you are soo determined.

Annie - I'm glad to see your still around.  You've had a few set backs but you sound like your starting to roll over that depression.  how is that knee doing?  I hope it is doing better, it sounds like you really miss running  hang in there.

Hey Misty - I can see you've had some ups and downs with life over the past few months too.  Are things a little bit more mellow lately?  They seem to be from your posts.

I haven't been around because honestly i haven't been able to make this a priority running about campus and getting my studying done saps ally my energy.  I've also taken to doing Yoga every Tuesday and a belly dancing class on the Fridays that I remian on campus.   Sadly my weight went up a bit at the end of last semester.  I've gotten up to 169/170 lbs and I've just sort of hung out there since christmas.  I am finding calorie counting very difficult at the campus dinning hall.  But I have managed not to gain any more since I came back in January.

I've missed you guys and I'm hoping to be around more... but at this point I make no promises.  At least till May.  may 7th my semester ends and I will not be taking any classes this summer so I will be home.  I'll be back on the wagon measuring and counting everything this summer to hopefully get back down to the 161 lbs I started school with at the end of last August... If I'm lucky a few pounds extra so I can claim to have made some progress.

The only really good progress I've made with my health goals has been to seriously cut down on the number of cigarettes I smoke.  Down from that 25 to 30 I started with to only 8 a day.  Hopefully before too long I'll have quite but I wouldn't hold my breath I always smoke mroe at home for some reason.  I am going to have to make a better plan for how to deal with that over the summer.

I hope I get to at least check in and wave occasionally.  I've been thinking about you ladies.  I hope the things that are good with you guys stay good and the things that aren't so good get better!!!

Wow, congrates Penny!!!!   That is just amazing!!!   I can't imagine how hard it must be to transition though.   Please do stick around and keep us posted.   I am so glad you made it though!!!   Plus after everything you have been through... it shouldn't be that hard to take your time and do your transition right.  I mean you've already done the hard work!!  Good luck!! (( those fruits shall be yours soon enough!))

Yolie, wow you are doing great.  You are making some pretty steady progress now.   Keep it up!!!!!  I am so thrilled for you!!!

I am consistently going over my target at the moment, thankfully I have been busy and burning the extra up.   Still hanging out at 165 lbs.  So no major worries here.  trying harder this week to get my in take where I want it.  I am also not doing my physical therapy all that often.  So those are my 2 big goals at the moment.   Everything else is going pretty well.  I study.... alot.

Hope every one had a great weekend!!!

Hey!!!  I'm not dead!!!!  LOL

You are all doing so well!!   Penny I'm amazed.  Yolie, congrates on the progress!!!  You both sound like your doing great.  And Annie  still running... and running alot!   man I am soo envious!!!

I've had a bit of a transition period and I just haven't had a lot of time for keeping up on any boards!!!   I started full time at university on August 31st and moved on to campus the week before.   I took a month and a half hiatus from counting and such.  My main goal was just not to gain.  I needed time to adjust to campus life... and campus food.

However, I kinda didn't do well.  Before my hiatus my weight was hanging out at about 161lbs... it jumped around a bit the first few weeks... hitting as high as 170lbs.   I've mostly hang out around 166lbs and today the scale read 165lbs.  So hopefully the gain has just been the change in schedule, diet, and being much more active.

On the good side I am walking all over campus, all the time!  And I've started doing yoga once a week.  Also I've cut down my nasty cigarette consumption by half!!!   So not all bad news.

I'm technically into my second week of a maintainance phase.  I'm not really aiming for a wieght loss deficit at the moment.  Just about 200 calories a day for a deficit.  I wouldn't mind getting back down to 161 after all.  As of the 2nd of October I've been at this a year.  I've read again and again that prolonged deficits can slow down a persons metabolism, so I think it's great time to maintaine and work on some of my other health goals.  It's a bit hard on campus though...  I have to estimate a lot... measuring isn't always possible.  So I hope I get better at the estimating during this maintainance phase.  Then in January when classes start for Spring semester I'll try to get back to losing and get ride of this lst 15-20 lbs.

I'm currently wearing a 12, and sometimes a 10 depending on the cut.  I think that's pretty cool.  Still I'd like to get into the healthy range.

I hope every one is doing great this week!!  I'll try to check in more often, but i can't make any promises that I'll get in as much as I used too.  I do promise to think about you guys and send you good thoughts!!!!  Your all missed!!!

First guys check her height again.  She grew about 1 and 1/2 inches, so she is 5'6.5" or 5'7".     At 5'6.5" and 120lbs your BMI would be 19.1, and at 5'7" at 120lbs  your BMI would be 18.8.    Theese are at the very lowest end of healthy.

Rather then trying to lose wieght you might consider weight training.  Lose fat and gain muscle.   Honestly you should try eating at or near maitainance and go talk to the folks on the Fitness forum.  They will have great advice on how to replace fat with muscle, for a slimmer look without an extremely low weight.

I can definatly under stand your goal of wanting to look slimmer... but perhaps in this case "dieting"  isn't the ideal plan of action.  Get a slimmer look with weight training and eating well sounds much better, much healthier, and much more enjoyable.  Good luck.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
