| Pregnancy & Parenting | How much less painful is it with an epidural? | Feb 17 2010 03:11 (UTC) |

An epidural is AMAZING!!The first labor I was able to go about 5 hours without it and then I had to get it. My oldest boy was 9lbs 6oz, and I had to have an episiodomy to get him out ( the doc cut the little area of flesh from bum to vagina) Second baby was over ten pounds so you know I had an epidural then! I was very proud, though. I was able to go about 8 hours without one, but then I just couldn't take it any more. I knew that I'd have at least 8-10 more hours to go and I couldn't take it. I still had to get "kickers". The doc would put a little shot of pain medication into my I.V every couple of hours. The only side effect that I experienced with an epidural: Doc had to poke into my spine about 3 times before it worked. Not fun. So I had 3 holes in my back all the way to the spine. Also, couldn't get up and walk around. I was stuck in bed for 19 hours with the first 15 hours with the second. |

Oh, I think I posted this on another thread, but Disturbed or Breaking Benjamins is great for getting psyched up and pushing through a cardio workout. I usually use something a little slower for weight training, but still rock genre. For strtching/cool down I use some Enya or instumental music. |

Oh, I know exactly how you feel. I lost 42lbs from feb 08-feb 09 and gained back 35 stupid monkey butt pounds by April 09! And the worst thing about it? I donated all my size 10 clothes because I thought that I'd be a size 4 for a while. Well, I got about 6 weeks out of those size 4 clothes before I started gaining the weight back!!! My husband gave me flak some when I said that I had to buy more clothes a couple of months back. Oh, I came unglued, rushed into my closet and made him watch as I tried to put on the "cute butt" jeans that he liked, all the while shouting that "These don't fit anymore, babe. I gotta buy clothes that FIT ME!!" He very wisely kept his mouth shut and gave me a hug. Then he said that he would watch the boy the whole day and I could go shopping and do girl stuff. I was still VERY mad at him, but it helped my calm down a bit. I was so disgusted with everything that I stopped posting here, but I've come to the realization that if I did it once before, then I should be able to do it again. May not be as fast as before, but I can do it again! |

The sucky think about getting off birth control is that you bleed right away. It doesn't necessarily mean that its your cycle. I had my Implanon removed Nov 9th, started bleeding Nov 11th, so I counted my ovulation off of that. I was suppose to start my "period" again December 9th, but nothing. My husband and I were so EXCITED! The first test was negative, so over the course of the next 17 days I took 4 more pregnancy tests, all negative. I finally started on the 27th of december which is my normal cycle anyway. But, I'm trying to loose about 15lbs anyway, so I guess its a good thing that I didn't get preggers right away! I'd be starting out at 150, which is kinda heavy for 5'3" |

I took classes when I was stationed in Japan through the University of Maryland. They were pretty good, but I still had to take the final in person at the education center on base. Just keep in mind that most instructors will grade you on participation, so if you just plan on getting the assignments and going on your way, reconsider! I got a "B" in my Criminal Justice class because I didn't do the mandatory 3 posts a class, or something like that. Also keep in mind your learning styles. If you are comfortable with the subject matter and don't require interaction with the instructor, then take those subjects. But things that you aren't comfortable with or strong in ( like math for me) consider taking those in person, or doing a split type class. Some in class/some online. Also, check to see that they are NATIONALLY accredited. The school might be accredited by the state, but if you move or apply for a job out of state then the credits may not transfer/they may not accept your degree as legit! Then you are out all that money and time! Good luck |

| Fitness | Taking measurements????? | Jan 31 2010 18:19 (UTC) |

Well, where are you measuring yourself? Is it in the exact same place as the previous week? Are you measuring the area tensed or relaxed? Here is how/where my doc measured me a couple of months ago.
I try to use a reference point on each area. Like the scar I have on my thigh, the freckle I have on my forearm, etc etc so that I try to get the same area each time. The cloth tape meaures are the best, I think. But all that said you are doing an awesome job! If your like me and you want to see big number differences then just measure yourself once a month instead of every week. I would kill for 38 inch hips though! I got about 3 inches to lose to hit that!! |

A non impact injury that is really good is Pilates or yoga. You will have to do some stretches and balancing moves, so if you do decide that yoga is for you inform the instructor before the beginning of class of your injuries and they should be able to offer alternative stretches or poses for you to do during the class. there are some really good tapes to rent/buy, but I always think its a good idea to go to a class and have some formal instruction for the first couple of weeks, then go out on your own. You already mentioned swimming, so how about water aerobics? I did that whe I was pregnant and let me tell you, it will work EVERYTHING! |

you know, there is a very tasty drink from Bolthouse Farms. Its the Mocha Cappuccino. It has something like 9 gms of protein a serving, if I remember correctly. Also nuts, peanut butter, soy beans, tofu, soy milk and fish all have protein. Buffulo also has a crap load of protein, its low in fat, and very high in omega-3 fatty acids. But if you aren't a big red meat eater then the previous ideas might help. |

Good for you! I had to start supplementing with formula when he as about 10 weeks because I was in a very intense training course and I couldn't pump as regularly as I had been. We only had about 3 ten minute breaks the whole day and about 45 minuets for lunch. My production dropped about 50%, I think! |

Original Post by cynthiaf52: There are these type of shoes called shape up shoes. They look like a pretty good thing. Sketchers makes them. They are like tennis shoes with a big wedge shaped sole. Its suppose to engage your core and legs because your constantly balancing yourself. There is also a flip flop version that is not as expensive. Maybe wear those a couple of hours a week while at work, if it's allowed? I would love to wear them at work, but I don't think they come in a steel toe combat boot style |

After my 2nd baby was born in 02-02-08 I started to loose the weight and hit the gym. I went from 187 to 133 lbs by 02-05-09. ( I lost about 19 lbs when my son was born. He was over 10lbs!) My goal was to be 130 by the end of the Feb. Then two days later I got rip-roaring sick with mono, tonsillitis, and bronchitus. I wasn't allowed to work out for almost 2 months. I was also put on steroids for about a month. ( I loved it because before the steroids were prescribed I couldn't even swallow. I actually got down to 125 because I couldn't eat anything. It SUCKED! When I got off the restrictions for working out on 19 April i weighed myself again. I was 157! I had gained over 30 lbs in two months because of steroids and eating like there was no tomorrow. It is taking longer now to loose the weight then it did before. Its almost a year later and I've only lost 14lbs. I guess my metabolism has changed a bit, and its really hard to adjust to it. But, the holidays are over, soccer is starting up again, so I know that I can reach my goal of 130 by April 22nd. (My birthday and my next Physical Training Assessment!) I'm in the Air Force, so the BMI needs to be in the Healthy range for optimal testing scores. I still have to do well on the test, but my BMI plays into the calculation. Last test my BMI was in the overweight range, and it effected my score by 5pts! I almost had to go to the remedial PT sessions solely because of my BMI! Very angering! I even stopped posting on this site because I was so disgusted with my lack of weight loss results. I realized a few days ago that I can't base everything on what I had/did before, so I have to just roll with the punches and work with what I got. |

I don't know if this is your style or not, but when I work out I want music that will get me pumped and focused and to just push through it, so for cardio I listen to anything by: Disturbed, Chevelle, Flyleaf, or Breaking Benjamin Strength training I listen to anything by: a little softer rock, like 3 doors down or Genisis. A little of evenesence or Maroon 5 Streching or yoga: Some spanish guitar , Enya or some regge. Anything instrumental

| Weight Loss | What Are Humans MEANT to Eat? | Jan 30 2010 04:30 (UTC) |

The reason we heat our food stems from ( my opinion) the idea of preserving food for later. A piece of cooked meat might last a little bit longer than raw meat. Most animals that eat raw meat will gourge themselves because there is no guarentee that there will be food tomorrow. So they have to hunt almost everyday and be very good at it. Hence the sharp teeth and the jaw pressure to take down prey quickly. Early man didn't have refridgerators, or even a vast knowledge of salting/drying methods. So, that would lead to storage and carrying of food items that keep fairly well, like ruit, nuts, roots and tubers. So, over time I think we went from eating a meat based diet to a more easily storable diet. That caused us to evolve out of a total predator physique into an omnivore body.

I would say about 8 or 9 by themselves with the front door open and the fear of mother's wrath if they wander off! We lived in a kinda rought neighborhood, so at least one parent would always be with us when we were outside, or one of my older sisters at least.

Original Post by 1jblessed54: Does your son still live in your house? My parent's told my sisters and I that if we lived in THEIR house after graduation (or age 18) we would either: A) get a job and pay rent, B) go to college full time and help with chores/duties around the house, or C) part time school/part time work, pay for own groceries. Most 18 year olds would want to hang with their friends, but the drinking thing is really stupid thing to ask a parent to allow you to do. What, does your son not realize that YOU could get thrown in jail for contributing alcohol to underage drinkers?! Probably not. I'd do a compromise, though. Invite your son and his friends for appetizers and presents, then they can go on there merry little way or stick around and get some grub. As for the computer, unless he is going to school the day after graduation, I would hold off on giving it to him until he is actually starting college. |

Yup, I was just going to mention Stevia. Hm, I don't know what your doctor says, but honey a good natural sweetener. Sugar in the raw is pretty good too. Just make sure your protien and iron levels are good. Because baby will suck what they need from your body like no-ones buisness! Sea salt products are pretty healthy too. Ooh, maybe maple syrup or brown sugar? I don't know if brown sugar is "processed" alot, but it sure is good in oatmeal and on squash! |

I did the same thing for the first 6 months. The day care I use wanted me to pack about 8-10 clean dry bottles a day, so that there were always clean bottles to use. They have FDA regulations that all food served in the daycare has to be prepared in the center itself. The only "outside food" that is permitted is breast milk or a different formula then what they provide. My boy would eat about 14-20 oz of breastmilk/formula a day * edit: while he was in the center. My little guy would eat really well!*. The day care would keep the formula for 24 hours because of space issues. They just plain don't have space for all the milk containers, bottles, and prepared formula! If I provided breast milk for him they would use that first, then use the formula if there wasn't enough. I know that you may not want to do it now, but look into introducing a formula supplement to your child. There may be a day when they run out of your breast milk, you can't get away or are stuck in traffic, and little one is HUNGRY NOW! |
