I'm with you on just wanting something starchy and crunchy sometimes! I love fruit and raw veggies to snack on, but sometimes you just need a good chip or cracker! Similar to the Special-K Cracker chips are Pop Chips. You get a larger portion (20-ish) chips for 110-120 calories. They make all kinds of flavors too and even have a line of flavored corn chips similar to Doritos. You can find them in the organic section of the grocery store. :-) |

Ok first of all, you don't have to be rude to me just because I asked a question! Obviously, the ideal situation would be to see a doctor, but I currently don't have health insurance because I was laid off from my job. Therefore, seeing a doctor right now is not an option. So, if you would like to send me the money to pay for the doctor's bill so that I can ask this question, then go right ahead! ;-) |

Hi! I'm also recovering from AN. I've never really thought about doing this independently from a treatment center. I lived in a recovery house similar to what you are describing as part of a step down program at Remuda Ranch back in 2005. It was a great experience and really helped me to transition back home. Overall, I think this is a good idea. I just have a few reservations and concerns about it. First, renting a house with a group of people you have never met before can be a little risky, especially if this involves moving to a new city (everyone would have to find a job, which can be a bit tricky these days). My second concern would be that there would be no way to tell how serious each person was about recovery and the house could easily become a way for each person to compete and feed off of each other. I know you mentioned having a counselor come by, which would definitely be necessary, but I'm not sure that this would prevent this problem. Also, on the same note, each girl might be at a totally different stage of recovery (some may have been in treatment before, while others may have never been before). I know for me, since I have been in inpatient treatment before, I would be triggered by someone who is extremely underweight and/or new to treatment. Anyway, if there was some way to control for all of these issues, I think it is a great idea! I personally would love to have a support group of girls around who are going through the same things as me! Let me know if something works out for you! :-) |

I really like to have yogurt (Greek or regular) or cottage cheese for breakfast. I have a ridiculous sweet tooth, so I usually add some sweetener and/or fruit preserves to the cottage cheese. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese have more protein than regular yogurt and a really good amount for the serving size. I've also heard of people making quinoa like oatmeal and it has a lot of protein too. Of course, that might be difficult to find since you are overseas. Hope that helps some! |

Yes, chicken salad is similar to potato salad. It is made with mayo, spices, and possibly celery, pickles, nuts, fruit etc. The amount of calories really depends on how much mayo is in it. I don't know if you have Chick-fil-a's where you are, but their chicken salad sandwich has 510 calories and 19g of fat. It's definitely one of those things that seems healthy because of the "salad" part, but it is pretty high in calories. Hope that helps! |

When I was a kid I could have eaten chicken fingers and french fries for every meal. Now I could go the rest of my life without either of them! Now I crave apples/fruit in general, baby carrots/veggies in general, yogurt, beans, and fish (lately). Don't get me wrong, I still crave pizza, chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream, candy, etc too! I just have more of a sweet tooth now than when I was younger! |

Yuck, but not because I think it is really that bad. I'm just not a huge pumpkin fan and I'd rather spend 550 calories elsewhere. Grilled cheese with 1 laughing cow light wedge, 1 slice fat free cheese, sliced bell pepper, sliced onion, and sprinkled with garlic salt? |

Yum! I used to make that all the time as a kid! Broccoli salad with white beans (great northern beans), fat free feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, garlic salt, and fat free caesar italian dressing?

Personally I think it tastes just as good as the full fat kind. I like to mix it with truvia and some cinnamon and eat it like that or spread it on toast/bagels/english muffins/etc. It does have a lot of fake ingredients compared to the full fat or low fat kind, but it depends on what your goals are, which one is the best for you. If you want something with the least calories, the fat free kind is best. If you want the healthiest, the low fat/full fat is better. |

You can puree or grind up just about anything! I actually work in a clinic for children with feeding difficulties and we puree things I never thought could be pureed (ie. PBJ sandwiches, frozen burgers, chicken nuggets/breast, chef boyardee ravioli, hot dogs french fries, rice, etc). I'm not saying any of it is appetizing, but if your son is hungry enough and not super picky, you could maybe puree/grind up some of his favorite foods. I know this is kind of weird and gross, but if a puree just sounds awful to him, you could grind the food up in a food processor and add some kind of liquid (like water to proteins, veggies and fruits, milk to starches). If you have any questions, just let me know. I can share some of our "recipes". LOL! |

Thanks for all the tips everyone! I'll definitely have to give them a try! Is the foam roller the same idea as a ball? I don't have a foam roller and don't want to go buy one, but I have a small ball that might work. I'll try the stretches too! |
