| Calorie Count | Android app launched! | Jan 30 2012 05:19 (UTC) |

| So I'm having issues with using the android app and the add favorites option. I have a lot of foods under favorites and on the phone it cuts off after a certain number so I can't scroll past the letter C. I eat a wide variety of foods so I took the time on my computer to enter them all but now I can't use most of them( Is there any way to fix this so all of my favorites are accessible? | |||

I just got an android phone and was so excited to use calorie count on it. The app is very hard to use for logging foods. The favorites section isnt organized well and its hard to find foods (just make it like online with the foods that are grouped at the top). It would be really nice if the foods would show up more like they do online. Also, when i do a search for foods there isnt a way to pick just generic foods etc. |

Most people here wont try to give you advice without more info (height, weight, male/female etc). You may be eating too little depending on how much you currently weigh and may be underestimating your calories burned daily. |

Some kind of lean protein like chicken breast or salmon and a package of shirataki noodles and a sauce made from a little nonfat milk mixed with laughing cow cheese wedge italian herbs garlic etc and as much veggies as you like ( i like mushrooms and broccoli) makes a great low cal fettucini alfredo type thing. |

| Weight Loss | how do people get so much fiber!? | Jun 07 2011 13:39 (UTC) |

Fiber One Original for breakfast with a 1/2 cup nonfat milk and maybe some raspberries thrown in (they are super high in fiber as well). I am almost always around the 50 grams fiber mark but then i also eat a ton of veggies. However a lot of fruit such as berries and apples are high in fiber. A good way to get suggestions is to go to your analysis page and click on the fiber bar and click the choice foods high in this. |

Alot of times its not only the booze your drinking (like 80 calories a shot) but also what your drinking it in... if you have a rum and coke switch to rum and diet or a vodka with plain soda water and a lemon instead of OJ most of the mixers add a ton of calories not to mention eating at bars is rarely a good idea most stuff is fried and covered in cheese or some such :) |

When i have made marinara from scratch i used very ripe tomatoes preferably roma. I boiled water and dipped the tomatoes in for a second to get the skin to peel off then i rough chopped the tomatoes and threw them in a pot with just a tiny bit of water then i cooked them at a very low temperature for a very long time until they sort of fell apart then i mushed them up with a potato masher and added fresh oregano basil marjoram. I sauteed some onions and garlic in a separate pan with italian sausage and added it to the sauce and let it cook for a little bit to blend the flavors and voila fresh sauce. However all that being said, if you dont have very good ripe tomatoes (which are hard to find most of the year in most areas) your sauce will be bland and not yummy. Most of the time unless i grow my own tomatoes in the summer i used canned as they are picked and canned when they are ripe unlike most tomatoes at the store that are sent still unripe to avoid bruising etc. Muir Glen organic cans good tomatoes not sure about the sodium however they are the best canned brand i have found. |

I would probably let her know that the advice she is paying for sounds a bit odd from the research you have done and recommend she ask her physician if it sounds like a good plan so that maybe she can hear it from a doctor (unless she has a bad Dr. also ..) Its good that your friend realizes she needs help but its unfortunate that she is getting such awful advice the first place she looks. Its tough for you because you want to be supportive of her changes just want to make sure they are good changes. Maybe ask her if she wants to join this community and hopefully she can get some better advice through here ... for free? |

Ok so i went out and bought some watercress. How do you guys usually prepare it or what do you do with it. I couldnt believe how bitter and strong tasting it is. I ended up throwing some in a wrap with a sweet onion relish and bar b q chicken so the sweet and spicy sauces kinda overpowered it but i would like to find something else to do with it:) |

I think im the exact opposite. I never ever ate sweets or desert really and i have always hated chocolate but now for some reason i want sweet stuff all the time. Usually fruit works but if i want something else i get like the jello temptations so that its portioned but it feels so odd to start eating deserts when im trying to improve what i eat lol. |

Pretty sure cellulite is due to thinner skin in some areas. We all have a fat layer under our skin and where the skin is thinner it shows through as "cellulite". Dont think it has anything at all to do with fat percentages or any of that. |

My favorite is actually a magazine, Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country Kitchen. They also have a show on PBS America's Test Kitchen. I love them because they have recipes and also review different kitchen utensils. They do a great job testing tons and tons of recipes to find the "best" for everything. So far everything i have tried from them has been awsome. Their magazines are super informative and they give step by step walkthroughs with pictures and explainations for everything as well as how they came to think this was the best recipe etc. |

Yah i was talking about the non generic items i buy for the most part except meat as i can only find cooked nutrition values when i search on calorie count and since i dont have a food scale i have to use the raw weight of meats. Which is why i use the raw values for fruits and veggies from calorie count but enter the rest. |

I am a brussel sprout fanatic i go through 3-5 lbs a week just for me lol. I always peel off the loose leaves, trim the stem end and cut them in half. Then i put them in a mixing bowl with a little butter flavor cooking spray, granulated garlic, and a season salt blend then place on a baking sheet cut side down, bake them at 350 for 35 min (until they are medium brown on top and dark brown on the cut side). This is my absolute favorite and go to snack for watching TV hehe. Also a kinda neat thing is to steam cauliflower and puree it comes out like mashed potatoes can also mix with boiled parsnip or potato. French green beans (not the french cut ones in a can but Haricot Vert a super skinny green been) are super yummy lightly steamed with some lemon a tiny bit of butter salt and pepper. Asparagus is also good lightly sauteed with butter and sprinkled with parmesan cheese salt and pepper. |

| Weight Loss | Do you plan your meals? | May 12 2011 13:51 (UTC) |

I dont plan very much. Work days i usually get a break every 2 hours of my 10 hour shift, Breakfast is always Fiber One Original and a half cup of the non fat milk that has extra protein. Then i usually have like 2 lunches with a small wrap or sandwich half at each and a cup of soup at one (100 calories usually trader joes roasted red pepper and tomato yum) and fruit or veggie at the other. The wrap or sandwich is always either tuna fish or chicken and if its chicken i bake a ton of it at the start of the week and cut some up every day but i can make wraps with bar b q or salsa and fat free sour cream or hummus and tzatziki so i get a lot of variety that way and i either use the life balance tortillas with extra fiber or the double fiber english muffins so they are very filling. then i also have like 1 snack if im extra hungry which is usually like fruit hummus and crackers or something but it comes out between 600-700 calories during the day which leaves me 700-800 for dinner etc. I never really plan dinners ahead i will stop at the store on my way home. If im super tired i always have gardenburgers, frozen chicken patties, frozen 94/6 hamburger patties, refried beans, Naan breads pizza sauce and veggies at home so i can always throw together a burger-ish of some sort beef chicken or veggie or a naan pizza any of them ranging between 300-600 calories and i almost always have 8 oz brussel sprouts or a spinach salad. This way i can pretty much eat whatever i feel like but always have easy foods for when i feel lazy so i never end up at a drive through :) On my days off im way way less structured sometimes i eat a small amount all day other days i end up with 1-2 big meals but im at home so as i eat or plan to eat i just log and make sure i know where im headed hehe. |

Course ground coffee (yes only buy good coffee) put about 1.5 tablespoon per 8 oz of liquid (depends on what size french press you bought i think the single cup ones are better than the multiple) use very hot but NOT boiling water let it sit for 3-5 min then gently push the strainer down and pour into cup. They also work decently for loose tea. edit: The link above says use 2 tablespoons of coffee for 6 oz water i think you will have to play with this to get the strength you like. We always used espresso at the coffee shop i worked for in college so it came out fairly strong but if your using less dark roasts maybe you need more. |

Honestly the only nutrition info that i get from this site is like raw veggies for the most part i enter in every nutrition label from the foods i buy and save it as a favorite so i know its the most current info. Most other foods like meats i find the raw meat nutrition from the usda web site and enter that it. Its a bit time consuming at first but thankfully i type over 100 words per minute and once you have them saved they are always there. |

| Weight Loss | At what point in your weight loss journey do you typically hit a plateau? | May 11 2011 06:09 (UTC) |

|
I started my weight loss at 205 in December and started CC Jan 10th at 200. My weight dropped easily for Jan Feb March and April 1 i weighed 181. 4/17 i weighed in at 177 and since then i have bounced between 178-179 every day. So for almost 1 month now i haven't lost any weight at all after losing about 10% of my body weight. My eating habits have been the same as have my activity ( i really don't work out even tho i should i know). So i am figuring this is a plateau and while its depressing i am just trying to keep eating right and hoping i start losing again. I am going to try adding some exercise in and see if that helps :) |

The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
