I think thats just bad wikipedia info. It takes me months to go through a bag of pre-ground flax and it's never gone rancid on me. Then again I live in New England, not too humid or hot here. I keep it in the pantry. |

Also depends on how its prepared. If you use chicken or veggie stock, be sure to add the calories of the amount of stock you use. 160 is ballpark correct for quinoa from what I have seen.
By the way, excellent bang for the buck as far as nutrition goes, especially talking about a grain. |

I go the lazy mans way and buy ground flax seed at Whole Foods. I throw in 2 TBs with my morning smoothie. Adds in omega3's and fiber. Says 1 TB of ground flax is 37 calories. A teaspoon of ground would be 12.33 calories. |

I can't say I agree with the above post. I think pizza, specifically mass-made pizza is horrible for you. Honestly, the crust has very little nutritional value, its all refined carbs. You are better off eating the cheese and tomato parts, while skipping the crust. |

I am here to chat, if you ever need help! So you may be addicted to sugar... but I love it too. I don't think i've met many people who refuse to enjoy sweets. I also love carbs. Mounds and mounds of carbs! In order to break the cycle I had to set a goal. My goal was to complete a marathon. It required me to exercise so much (some weeks 60 miles of running), that it forced me to eat better. If I went out and binged on ice cream or candy, I'd notice it the next day and would have a hard time finishing that days run. Now I am not suggesting that you need to run a marathon, but I find that a goal oriented exercise program forces a person to think differently because the results of eating poorly are felt immediately. Not to mention my other addiction, carbs, isnt as big of an issue as it was because I can burn them off pretty easily. (some days I need to carb load before a race). In short, if you need help in eating better and can't seem to do it cold turkey, definately try an exersice program either at a local gym, or find a good program on the web that interests you. You'll be able to eat without feeling guilty and also be forced to eat better over time. Just my two coppers.

OMG, Swine flu!! RUN!!!
(I am sure it's nothing. I "sprained" my throat once gulping down a glass of wine. It took two weeks to totally heal). |

Original Post by amethystgirl: Perhaps you missed the part I wrote about water weight? I could gain a lb right now if I drank a 16 oz glass of water. All things being equal, water weight is up and is down, but it evens out in the end. |

Technically speaking, your body can not gain weight if you aren't actually taking in a positive surplus of calories. Any weight you will gain would be from the accumulation of water. There is a common misconception that its possible to gain weight without eating more calories, and not reducing your activity level. This just isn't true. Unless, of course, you are eating the same and have reduced your activity level.
The risk of eating too little would be in throwing your metabolism out of whack. You'd feel sluggish, and consequently your activity levels would drop as your body attempts to protest itself. So all of a sudden you think you are burning 1300, but its actually 1100...

I don't know about "super green tea" but I am an avid regular green tea drinker. It's is very heathy, as it contains healthy anti-oxidants, and enzymes. Tea is also an appetite supressant. So it an excellent coice to drink when you need to cut back the calories. Also it seems that cultures who drink a lot of green tea tend to live longer.

I understand about "taking a day off" but that's not it. That is borderline binge eating, which pretty much defeats the purpose of dieting and general health management. Binging on empty calories like that is exactly what you should not do, to expect a long life. Yes, more blunt talk from me. It's a bad habit, but I am really just trying to help. |

Well lets see Oreos- Cheese puffs- Cheese sandwich- For a grand total of 2090 calories. This by the way is 10 calories shy of my daily allowance of 2100 (being a 35 year old male). I would also feel bad not to mention that nothing you ate is at all even remotely healthy for you. At this rate of consumption, you'll probably gain something. I can't imagine eating all that and being able to exercise. I'd probably throw it all up. Sorry for the bluntness, but thats the rub.

There is an argument that fat free milk is less healthy then whole milk because without the fat the milk can not carry fat soluble nutrients. Thus skim milk is not nearly as healthy. Also I heard that skim milk is made with powered milk, which has me a bit worried, but I haven't confirmed that yet.
Fat can be a good thing, in moderation. |

Fast food? A big no-no This is like rule 1. And giving kids this crap is even worse! I take my child to a local homemade ice cream shoppe. It's good quality stuff, and you are giving your money to local companies, not some behemoth devil like McD's! |

Agreed here. You'll need to take in more calories once your exercise program progresses. You body will demand more, as your metabolism increases. |

I would agree with 1350-1400. Minor quibble though, vegitarian does not equal healthy, by default! There will be plenty of meat eaters that will outlive any of us - its all about balance and moderation. |
