3 days stand out above the rest.
1 - I ate a normal b-fast and a normal lunch and then went to a cookie exchange party where I ate about 18 cookies of various sizes and ingredients. I then had a light dinner of salad and soup to try to compensate but went to a meeting serving huge cookies where I proceeded to eat 6 of. I cam home polished off every cookie left in the house, about 8, smothered in p-nut butter and melted chocolate. 2 - We had a bridal fair at my work that had numerous caterers with huge spreads. There were not as many brides as anticipated which resulted in lots of extra food. I had 6 mini-quiche, 2 plates of marinated vegetables, 8 sliced pinwheel sandwiches with salsa, 5 pieces of pound cake drenched in fudge, a bunch of fruit with cream cheese dip, 4 marshmellows dunked in fondue chocolate, a huge chocolate chip cookie, a huge fudge brownie, a raspberry tart, 2 big glasses of punch, a shortbread cookie drenched in chocolate and a large piece of white bakery cake with icing. 3 - CC's pizza buffet (which I actually was pretty reasonable at) for lunch after a normal b-fast, a light dinner and then 5 Dove truffels dipped in p-nut butter, a mega pack of M&M's, a box of Lemon Girl Scout cookies, a PB&J sandwich, a handful of crackers, a Little Debbies, a granola bar, a big bowl of cereal and soy milk and an orange (all within the span of about 1 hour) Obviously my binges always involve sweets and are directly related to the fact that I don't weigh enough, don't get enough fat in my diet and how out of control I have become. I alwasy say I will not binge again, I will get better, but I alwasy start restricting/overexcersicing the next day and it starts the cycle again. |

| Funny, I was just thinking about this tonight. Back in my fat days I would typically have - either 2 poptarts and a big glass of milk (550 cal) or what amounted to 3 servings of cereal (600 cal) for breakfast. Of course I never passed up doughnuts (usually 3), pancakes (5 at least) or cinnamon rolls (usually 3) if they were available. I would eat an entire can of Chef Boyardee and 1 or 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, or a combo meal at a fast food joint or 2 hot pockets and chips for lunch - always followed by 3 cookies (or one huge one). Snack would be whatever I could grab - chips, crackers, pb&j sandwich (always white bread). Dinner would be some massive amount of whatever. An entire plate of spaghetti and sauce with 2 pieces of garlic bread and salad, 4-5 slices of pizza with breadsticks, full course meal at a restaurant, huge piece of meat to 2 porkchops and potato and 2-3 rolls and salad, etc. The amount of food I consumed was grotesque. I never went to bed without dessert which was usually a huge brownie, enormous piece of cake and overflowing bowl of icecream. It is a wonder I didn't weigh more than I did! | |||

| Cake... birthday cake to be specific. I feel like I am honoring the birthday person by having a big piece. Problem is I eat that and usually my kids leftovers. Once I have one bite it is all over. So, I try to avoid it all together. Plain M&M's is another thing I can't resist and eat them until they are gone! | |||

| I totally agree that your environment can make it more difficult to make good decisions. I live in Western North Carolina a.k.a. southern, comfort, massive amounts, fairs and festivles galore, everything tastes better fried, momma's homecooking, real butter in everything, mayo goes with everything, diet what?, overweight and proud country. I am alwasy shocked at the amount of overweight people in my area. It is no wonder though with how everyone eats. There seems to be a fair or festivle every weekend or a get-together or gathering that involved massive amounts of unhealthy food. That is how they were raised and that is what they continue to do. I went to a birthday party for one of my daughters friends over lunch time and this was her menu - chicken salad w/tons of mayo, buttered croissants, pita bread soaked in olive oil, pasta salad w/tons of mayo, broccoli slaw w/ mayo, grape salad w/sour cream and cream cheese, potato salad (yep, mayo) and potato chips. There was only ice cream punch to drink and then cookies, candy and cake with 3 inch thick buttercream frosting. Period. Nothing even remotely healthy or even passible and this was a 5 year olds party. I can't tell you how many restaurants around here have no healthy choices and fries come with everything - no other choice. All the mom and pop restaurants look at you like you have 3 heads when trying to order something without butter or oil and the lack of any light salad dressings makes me so very mad. Sweet tea is the norm not the exception and there is a general lack of concern for health around here. It drives me crazy. Of course I compensate by eating at home, bringing my own food and looking out for my health. Environment can be a major factor! | |||
| Weight Loss | Your worst binging moment | Aug 20 2007 13:29 (UTC) |

| For me it was at a baby shower. Not just any baby shower but one that was quite fancy where the food spread was unbelievable. I ate about 4 plates worth of food : chicken salad croisants, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed tomatoes, bacon-wrapped shrimp, BLT "pizza" slices, spinach dip and hawaiian bread, bread salad, pasta salad, cream cheese spread and crackers, fruit and fruit dip with pound cake bites, meatballs, veggies and heavy dip, 5 chocolate dipped strawberries, 2 cupcakes,4 chocolate dipped pretzel rods and I am sure much more I can't remember. I could not stop myself and felt miserable the rest of the day. Of course I didn't learn my lesson and had a fairly bad binge yesterday too - at a bridal fair my store was hosting. I have a real problem with spreads and buffets that offer free food and that stay layed out for hours. I keep going back. Ahh | |||

| SOY JOY bars are horrible! Luckily I didn't waste my money on trying them, they were free samples. They are fairly small, 140 calories and taste terrible. I took one bite, barely could chew it up and threw the rest away. SO not worth the calories. I gave another flavor a try and it was just as bad. Weird consistency, bland flavor and nowhere near the nutritional content needed to make them worthwhile. | |||

| I guess what has me upset the most is that I do eat a well-balanced, nutrient packed diet. I eat whole grains, plenty of fiber, tons of fruits and veggies, very little processed food, nothing fried, no fast-food, etc. I also add "treats" into my daily allotment and it has been fine. Also on those days I did go over my portions I made the best possible food choices available (okay there was a one bad scene with cake and buttercream) and continued to excercise. Never did I miss a work-out and even beefed it up on the worst eating days - like the baby shower. I probably deserved to gain 1-2 lbs because of the overeating, but again that was 2 weeks ago and I have gone back to my routine and the 5 lbs are still there. My worry is that the 5 lbs will stay and then the next event 2 more will creep on and stay and then 2 more, etc no matter how much I am careful the rest of the week or how much I excersise. I am just frustrated. | |||

| Weight Loss | Any one under 100 pounds?? | May 25 2007 03:14 (UTC) |

| I am 5'2'' and I started out at 153lbs. My original goal was 130 which was met very fast after I began calorie-counting. Then I set it at 120 which again happened pretty quickly. Somewhere along the line the obsession with calories and excersize spiraled until here I am at 98lbs and not knowing what to do. I feel good, eat around 1600 cal. a day, treat myself on occassion and eat a great balance of good foods. I do exercise a lot and while I know I probably need to gain a little back, I am scared of loosing control and gaining it all back. I know people around me think I have a problem since I got so thin in a pretty short amount of time. I am not sure where I go from here but i do know I want food to stop ruling my life and consuming my thoughts, when, what, where to eat next. Ahhh. Never in a million years did I think I would be under 100 lbs... it just happened. | |||
| Weight Loss | what kind of bread do you eat? | Mar 22 2007 14:23 (UTC) |

|
I had a revelation about bread recently. I was eating whatever had the lowest calorie count - 35 or 40 cal a slice. The slices were small, very thin and not very satisfying. I now get some type of whole grain, high fiber bread by Pepperidge Farm or Nature's Valley and while it is ususally 100 cal a slice, it is very dense, thick, filling, yummy and I can be satisfied with just one slice!

| I love cottage cheese with chips or crackers... yum! My dad always ate cottage cheese with pringles - of course I go for healthier options but it has to be something salty. I tried one of the Breakstone cottage doubles with fruit - I couldn't finish it, yuck! I guess to me it should be paired with something crunchy and salty. I love hearing others combinations though! | |||

| As for the pizza, how about a sald first and then 1 or 2 slices of veggie pizza. And don't fret about Cold Stone Creamery... I was just there yesterday and had a "Like It" sized Sinless Sweet Cream with cherry pie filling... SO good and get this only 220 calories and I didn't even finish it all and it was totally satisfying and I didn't feel like I was getting jipped. The cherry/ apple pie filling only has 50 cal, the fat-free hot fudge only has 80 cal, and of course they have fresh berries that only have 20 cal, and choc. sprinkles only have 30 cal I believe. So plenty of options for a wonderful treat without ruining the day! The Sinless Sweet Cream is wonderful too. I may try the Sinless Sorbet next time - it looked great too! Good luck... enjoy it! | |||
