Hmmm. I know this thread is really old, but I had to chime in and say that fast5 is not, in any way, a "fad" diet. It is not a weight loss plan at all. It is a way of eating that you can do with a weight loss plan- i.e. calorie counting and exercise. I have been eating this way for over 2 years, and it is wonderful. I recently fell off the wagon (due to extreme life stress) and I am pulling myself back up by my bootstraps and hopping back on. Of course it is not for everyone, but I HATE when people dismiss it out of hand because of the "fasting" aspect. I would encourage everyone to read the free e-book before commenting.

Weight Loss Alcohol Truth May 04 2009

i was able to lose 30lb while still drinking alcohol- i like to have a beer (sometimes two) most nights, so i budgeted it into my calories. My only problem was that if i did have more than one beer, my inhibitions were lowered and it was HARD not to snack. So, i think you can drink responsibly and still lose weight.

Weight Loss Stopping bingeing & overeating: Did it work for you? Sep 25 2008

okay, i know i will get flamed for this, but i was a chronic binger/overeater for years. what worked for me was http://www.fast-5.com/F5Summary.html you can also google fast-5

seriously, i used to think that kind of eating was really unhealthy, but after reading, researching and thinking about it, it makes a ton of sense. i still sometimes struggle to make healthy choices, and i believe a whole foods diet is healthiest.

but this has made a huge difference in my life, so i wanted to share!

please don't flame me before researching it a little bit. it really does make sense. of course it is not for everyone, though.

Weight Loss Your Worst Binge! Sep 21 2008

i seriously used to eat 2000+ calories every night. in addition to a good 1500 calories (at least) during the day.

i could eat a whole box of mac and cheese, one or two beers, a big handful of chocolate chips, a bunch of sliced cheese with sriracha hot sauce on it, toast with butter and syrup, etc etc.

i went from 180 to 150 (still working towards 140), and i have a little loose skin on my belly.

but, i think that has more to do with my two pregnancies than my weight loss!

i really dont think that is an excessive amount. . . i don't think she would have any problems with a beer belly with what you are describing.

I agree!!  This sounds like a terribly unhealthy way to eat!

thats what i thought too. . . until i read, researched, and thought about it.

read the free online book on the website i linked to. google it. its pretty interesting. certainly it is not for everyone, but it makes alot of sense when you think about it.

of course you should not just eat whatever during the 5 hour window- healthy, whole foods are always best.

has anyone ever checked out http://www.fast-5.com/? i have been doing that (along with CC) for 4 months or so, and i love it. it is a radically different way of eating but it really clicked with me, and it is super easy to follow.

i am just now trying to lose weight again, so i guess i will see how it goes. i have been maintaining since april, and i am ready to shed those last 10 lbs!

anyway i guess my point is that I personally eat all my calories generally between 6-11pm. i have 30c of coffee in the morning, and generally eat during the day once a week, or if there is a family brunch or a holiday or whatever.

Vegetarian Vegan Headaches Apr 23 2008

i get headaches when i eat tofurkey jerky or any processed soy food- i always thought it was the MSG (or yeast extract), but maybe it is the sodium. i also feel tired and lethargic if i don't eat enough fruits and vegetables, or drink enough water.

Vegetarian Cheap, Easy, Healthy Vegetarian food? Apr 01 2008

lentils and split peas are easy to prepare, very healthy, and cheap. you can make a great soup with either of them. in fact, all dried beans fit your criteria, but they can take a long time to cook (they are still easy to prepare, though) lentils, if seasoned well, can do a great ground beef stand in.

maybe you should try to learn to like rice- that would really open up your options. also, keeping a good variety of spices on hand can make your recipes seem more varied, even if your core ingredients are similar.

do you eat tofu or tempeh? tofu is usually pretty cheap and can be prepared a million ways.

How about veggie sushi? if you have an asian market nearby, nori sheets are reallllly cheap. they are super expensive at my local health food store, but dirt cheap at the asian market. ditto sushi rice. sushi may seem daunting but it is really easy to prepare, and very healthy. i actually make it with brown rice, but it holds its shape much better with real sushi rice. almost any veggie tastes good in a sushi roll.

Weight Loss I dont know when to weigh myself!?! Mar 28 2008

honestly, i really don't think it matters, because SO many things affect your day to day weight. I would just try to weigh at the same time every week. If you are weighing daily, someone on here posted the GREAT advice to average your daily weight every week, and use that average to monitor your weight loss.

weigh once a week, in the mid afternoon.

do they make the burrito with rice? if so, ask them to leave the rice out- it makes a HUGE difference in calories with little change in the taste.

Pregnancy & Parenting How to beat the "baby blues"? Mar 01 2008

i have baby fever- actually it is a lot better now that i have two kids of my own!! but, i still get that overwhelming, irrational NEED to have a baby.

what helps me is to remember that this feeling is an instinct- it is not a logical thought process. it is my body's instinctual drive to reproduce.

i do recommend that you and your partner set a timetable, or make a list of what you need to accomplish before you are ready to take the plunge. that will make the wait easier.

and remember- you will NEVER be truly ready to have kids, so IMNSHO you should just go ahead and have one! :)

. SO... don't stress about going over your calorie intake, really, you should be focused on how many grams of fat you consume a day. And 1200 calories a day, come on... how can your body function and do what it needs to do if you are giving it only 1200 calories a day????????

i agree that 1200 c is a very intake , but it is just not true that fat makes you fat.
