Try brushing your teeth before you eat anything.  I find the mint taste pretty much ruins my craving for anything else. Plus your dentist will be thrilledWink

Here's one for you -

"A Meal to Die For" by Joseph R. Gannascoli (better known as Vito on The Sopranos.) I couldn't even get past page 5.  Glad I bought it at a 2nd hand store.

There are so many poems that I love and visit often.

Seamus Heaney: "The Follower" and this next one because it hits so close to home.

"Mid-Term Break"

I sat all morning in the college sick bay
Counting bells knelling classes to a close.
At two o'clock our neighbors drove me home.

In the porch I met my father crying--
He had always taken funerals in his stride--
And Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow.

The baby cooed and laughed and rocked the pram
When I came in, and I was embarrassed
By old men standing up to shake my hand

And tell me they were "sorry for my trouble,"
Whispers informed strangers I was the eldest,
Away at school, as my mother held my hand

In hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs.
At ten o'clock the ambulance arrived
With the corpse, stanched and bandaged by the nurses.

Next morning I went up into the room.
Snowdrops and candles soothed the bedside; I saw him
For the first time in six weeks. Paler now,

Wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple,
He lay in the four foot box as in his cot.
No gaudy scars, the bumper knocked him clear.

A four foot box, a foot for every year.

John Donne: "Holy Sonnet 10"

Alfred, Lord Tennyson: "The Lady of Shalott"

Christina Rossetti: "No, Thank you, John"

U.A. Fanthorpe: "Old Man, Old Man"

Wow! That is fantastic! You have every right to be proud of yourself.  I'm sure it took a lot of hard work (physically and emotionally) to get through this past week. Reading your post this morning has certainly lightened MY spirit.

Ditto renekane - very nicely written!

I also have a difficult time keeping my iron level up.  I found Plantation Blackstrap Unsulphured molasses has 20% of iron RDA.   House of Herbs molasses is even higher.

I also just found that Grape Nuts nuggets and Fiber One Honey Clusters have a whopping 90% of RDA iron. (plus I get a good fiber boost from Fiber One).

Your point is well made, and I agree with you.  You can't look for a magic bullet with weight loss.  So now I'm wondering.  If the Calorie Count website encourages sensible weight management (in my case - loss), why does it accept advertisements that push that magic bullet.  As I was logging my dinner, I noticed an ad on the right side for "Cambridge Diet.'  Curious, I clicked, read an intro and this is what is said:

" Is there anyone who can't lose weight on Cambridge products?
No! Losing weight results when you use more calories for energy than you consume. When Cambridge products are used as the exclusive source of nutrition, only 420 calories per day are consumed. While the rate at which people use calories can vary substantially, no one uses less than 1,200 calories per day. With a calorie deficit of nearly 800 calories, you can't help but lose weight."

ONLY 420 CALORIES PER DAY!?!?! WHAT??????

Is this hypocritical of the CC website?  Do they screen their sponsors?  What sort of message does this send?

Perhaps this is one source of those "undereating" posts that frustrate you.

Thanks for reminding me that I didn't gain this weight in a week - I can't lose it in aa week.
