| I was raised on wild mallard, some wood duck. I don't believe I ever had teal. The few times I ate farm raised duck it was horrid and prepared in a stupid way. we would baste it in soy sauce/butter mixture and bbq it, then eat them whole with the dipping sauce. it was often an initiation dinner for new guests. | |||

I'm studying Buddhism after using mindfulness techniques to treat anxiety and depression. Compassion is at the heart of the practice. I completely agree with the words of the charter but troubled by the background of the founder and goal of the site. It seems to be rooted in prize money and rewarding/awarding people for "acts of compassion". Compassion provides its own reward. |

I love Zumba. It's not low impact at all, though. It's easier than other workouts because it's gradual and a lot of fun. The first time I tried it, I was still overweight and barely in shape and I kept up with the class. I have sensitive knees and it didn't hurt them. Try searching it on youtube, that is how I decided to try it because it looks so fun. |

Since you don't have money for college, your best bet is to start working in the field and then see about furthering your education. You can ease into health care by being a nurse aide, patient care tech, or other type of caregiver. Some places offer scholarships to employees to move up. In any case, you need to find out if you like it before investing your own money in it. I currently am a caregiver in an assisted living/retirement community. I was a nurse aide in nursing homes for years. I also work as a receptionist and am looking to take on more administrative duties (bookkeeping). I've seen a lot of people quit the first time they have to touch people. I love it though and can't imagine another industry. Btw, I did go to school, twice! and haven't used those fields in a long time (Spanish and Travel). You really need to visit the environment first. |

This is interesting. I wondered about the good C vs evil C. My LDL has always been low and my HDL has been high. I was surprised that this was the case during my fat-sedentary years as well. So, had I stayed that way, I could have felt false security of the cholesterol myth. However, the asthma, fatass, arthritis and depression was telling me that I needed to get in shape anyhow. |

| Fitness | Should I be concerned about my heart rate when I run? | Jan 22 2010 19:57 (UTC) |

"So perhaps the usual age calculations just don't work for you." This and I would like to add that after working out for a while (it took me 3 weeks for each noticeable change) your heart rate will go down during exercise and recover faster. I was seriously out of shape when I started and had to start at walking, then move into jogging. I noticed that after a while, I had to work a lot harder just to get into the cardio zone.

I have read about eating at maintenance for a lower weight. I should try it. I intend to premake food, I went through a spell where I was unable to to do that. I'm currently trying hard to premake food and force myself to eat more at home. I walk to work (1 mile/one way) and sometimes I go to work twice so I can walk up to 4 miles just in transport. I don't have a car so I walk all over. Unfortunately, I have been less motivated to walk for exercise. Yesterday I finally walked 2 miles just for a work out, then I danced for a good 45 minutes afterwards. And I walked to work and back. I eat a lot of sugar, especially when I'm depressed. I froze a bunch of candy so I will try and curb the bingeing. I eat whole grains as much as possible. The light is a good idea, I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks for your suggestions! |

| Weight Loss | Does anyone calorie count in their head? | Nov 12 2009 18:33 (UTC) |

I've been in maintenance/off the wagon mode for several months now. Counting in my head doesn't work for me anymore. However, when I was in weightloss-mode, it did. I had been very diligent for months and got to a point where I could count in my head when I was out of the house. I will say that it still included cooking at home and portioning my snacks in small baggies and sticking with a plan.

If you can find MTV's The Grind, those are great for advanced dancers. I had a hard time coordinating the moves but if you catch on quickly, you can get a good work out. This is from the mid-90's. They're probably only on VHS. |

It depends on how fit you already are or aren't and how long you are keeping such a high heart rate. I used to burn close to that easily when I started cardio. I will say, I'm not an expert but you may be really pushing your heart. |

You should be allowed to get up and walk around in intervals. I think there is a jet lag diet to follow to avoid feeling gross after the flight. |

1) I lost 55 pounds, reached my first (biggest) goal last December. I still have the hanging skin on my belly. 2)I have the gaunt face and when I reached my last and final weight goal (5'5 1/2", 130lbs) people complained that I lost too much and noticed my face. I don't have answers except to repeat the others and say that a lot of this is due to genetics. It helps to lotion up and stay hydrated. |

Hyperbole, yes. But she continues to defend her use of violence references. When I ask questions she says I interrogated her. When I say that she accused me of something, she says that's like a verbal slap in the face. She uses phrases and terms like "I felt threatened", "cornered", "I had no choice".

Again, thanks. y'all are confirming my suspicions. It gets weirder.
She is the one who makes references to violence. one time she started an argument and then said she didn't want to talk about it anymore. She cut me off early and walked off. I followed her and continued-I was very upset. She later said that my continuing made her feel raped. she has defended that reference.
I have been in verbal fights and I have been raped, I would never compare the two.
I think ultimately, I don't trust my BS detector. Then, I don't follow through with it. |

| Thanks, I understand those examples and I don't use them in theses talks. Latest example; she listed about 3 things I do that doesn't like. the truth is that I didn't do them. I called those accusations. she said that was a loaded term and needed to stop using it. She immediately then said it was like a verbal slap in the face. Another example is that she has a habit of changing her stories. she stated that she wanted to move in with me within the year. she later stated that she was dishonest (her word) and she never intended to move in that soon. I then referred to that as a lie. She says she isn't a liar and objects to me using the word lie. she has changed a lot of her stories and this is a current issue I have with continuing our relationship. | |||

this amateur ran into this issue the other week. I joined a running/walking group and was told that the night I attended was "speed runners' night". I was told that some of the men there were running 5 minute miles. One woman who complained she was one of the "slow ones" was a 10 minute miler. She was the last one to return. Just my experience. |
